Late one night, a resident of Santa Rosa reports that someone was banging on his front door and screaming for help. A raging fire which threatens homes and an armed robbery stretch police resources. Officers do not respond to the neighborhood until the following morning, when the resident calls again to report a horrific discovery. In the neighborhood, police find blood in several locations and what appears to be a gruesome crime scene. But there is no body and no evidence of the means of injury.

When the victim's body is located a few days later, identification is hampered. Angela Masters must sort out a mound of conflicting information to determine who the victim was and to identify her killer. By the time the victim is identified, evidence points to a serial killer preying on young girls. Will Angi be able to sort out the puzzle and, even then, will it lead her to the killer before he can strike again?

"Fire Storm" is the second Angela Masters novel I've read, and while I enjoyed the first one I have to say this one was more suspenseful as well as more disturbing. When a man hears a shrill scream, he calls the police, but they're too distracted by a raging fire near Santa Rosa to respond that night. The next day, he wakes up to find a bloody handprint on his door, and there's another on a house window nearby; and the most shocking find is a severed hand in a bush. Angela Masters, a detective with the violent crimes unit, is on the case, and she begins to investigate who the hand belongs to and what happened to the rest of the body. There's a violent, depraved serial killer or two on the loose who prey on young girls, and Angela must identify them and bring them to justice. "Fire Storm" definitely left some images in my imagination that won't leave any time soon; what the serial killers do (especially Etta) is highly disturbing, so if graphic things bother you as a reader, this book might not be for you. If you're fine with it, then you'll probably find "Fire Storm" to be an exciting, fast-paced thriller novel with a nicely done police procedural element. Angi is a strong character and it's nice to have a female lead who is smart and capable, and doesn't need a man (in other words, romantic interest) to help her do her job. She's dedicated to her job and talented at it. I also liked that the perspective sometimes alternated to that of the perpetrators; it added both to the tension of the book and the horror element of it. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy suspense/thrillers, especially those involving police work to catch disturbing criminals.

Fire Storm by Mike Worley is another gripping page turner! Detective Angela Master is on the trail of two killers. Alan Douglas hears screaming and pounding on his front door during the night, but no one is there when the door opens. He reports the incident, but emergency personnel forget the 911 call as firefighters deal with a huge fire and other police officers check out another call about a burglary. The next morning reveals bloody handprints, a trail of blood droplets, a body part, and a grisly crime scene in the neighborhood. After some investigation it comes to light that this is not the first victim. Join Angela as a story unfolds about the torture and murders of some of the most vulnerable members of our society when the remaining body parts begin to surface and law enforcement learns that a couple of serial killers are on the loose. You will know pretty early on who the killers are, but you will not fully understand their relationship, who will be next, or how they will get caught. As usual, Angela delivers as a most dedicated, tough, and unrelenting investigator and with some help from her other law enforcement friends, this turns into a roller coaster ride of adventure and surprises. I read this book in one day because I had to find out what the next surprise was going to be. Some parts are pretty graphic, but I still enjoyed it. I did not realize that this book is part of a series until I read a particular passage that made me realize that I had missed out on some other Angela Masters adventures. Both the ones that I have already enjoyed did great as stand alones and you better believe that I will catch up on the others. Keep coming please! I like crime stories and I learned quite a bit about police procedures and cooperation between different law enforcement agencies. I give it five stars and recommend that you get a copy today!

How do you catch a demented killer?  You put Detective Angela Masters on the case. She has her own way of investigating to get results. I loved Angi’s character. She was very believable in the way she thought things out. I could tell that the author is a former cop by the meticulous details of the case. I wasn’t sure how the wildfire was going to tie into the brutal murder, but when it finally did, I felt like the fire didn’t need to be part of the story.  To me, it was basically off-topic.  I also liked how the author added all the unspoken thoughts of a few of the characters, that and the small bit of humor. Of course this confirmed my thoughts also. I would have liked the author to include more reasoning for the crimes. I think that was cut too short. I will enjoy reading further Angela Masters’ Investigative stories.

Fires Storm by Mike Worley is a fast paced novel that has investigators rushing to solve a grisly crime. The story starts with a wildfire and how a call got mishandled by 911. Body parts start appearing and the trail leads to a set of killers that have been working in several jurisdictions. There are some twists in the story that will take you by surprise. It was difficult to always keep up the timeline as it was posted at the beginning of each chapter. I was too focused on the story itself to pay attention to the dates and times that it listed. I still don’t know if that says something good about the story or something bad about my ability to focus on the little While you knew who the killers were from early in the story, it was a mystery on how they would get caught. The chase and investigation are the main interest points to this book. I give this 5 stars. I have found a new series to read and can’t wait to start reading them all. I like to read a book that makes it difficult to put it down. This is how I decided to one-click authors whenever they have something new come out.
