Overview

Modern medicine can replace worn, defective hearts, but only love can heal a broken one...

Broken-hearted teacher Rachel Thompson isn't sure volunteering at Camp Firefly Wishes, a special summer camp for transplant kids and their families, will help her put the pieces of her life back together.

Overprotective single dad James McClain just wants his eight-year-old, Molly, to have a normal summer experience for the first time. Within reason, of course.

Molly knows her dad worries about her all the time. She worries about him, too. What he needs is someone else to think about. Someone else to be there for him, just in case her transplanted heart goes bad.

Take a determined eight-year-old matchmaker, add moonlight, fireflies, and heartfelt wishes, and odds are a summer romance is in the making.

But summer always ends, fireflies fade, and Rachel's already lost one child. How can she give her barely-patched-together heart to this man and his medically-fragile daughter?

About the Author

USA Today Bestselling author Susan Gable was born with a book in her hand. Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not by much. Her love of books goes back to her preschool days, when books arrived at her house from the Weekly Reader Book Club. Some of them even had records so she could listen to the stories! (Remember records?) Both of Susan’s parents are voracious readers, and they infected her as well. Susan shared her love of reading (and Weekly Reader!) as an elementary teacher for ten years, then turned to writing after a year of homeschooling her son caused her to nearly lose what was left of her mind. Writing, it turns out, is cheaper than therapy, and homeschooling is far harder than teaching other people’s kids. That son is now grown. (Susan’s not sure how that happened, as she feels no older than the day she first started writing.) Susan’s books have been Golden Heart and Rita ® Award finalists, been recognized by Romantic Times nominations for Best Superromance of the Year, and she’s won numerous awards, including the National Readers’ Choice Award. She's a USA Today Bestseller. She’s been praised by readers and reviewers alike for her ability to tell emotionally compelling stories that make them laugh and cry. Over a half million copies of her books have been sold worldwide.

Caution: This book is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. Rachel has hit the lowest point in her life after losing her son and her marriage, and has been coerced into spending two weeks at a summer camp for families of children with organ transplants. She still hasn't come to terms with her son's death, let alone the fact that donating his organs meant other children could live. But she has to attend this camp, or her job as a school teacher is in jeopardy. James is still very overprotective of his daughter, Molly, even though she's thriving after her recent heart transplant. He hopes their time at Camp Firefly Wishes will give her a fun and (relatively) carefree childhood experience. James and Rachel hit it off right away, but there are complications aplenty as they each navigate their separate parenting experiences as well as the demands of their current situation. Rachel had the furthest to go in her personal journey, but I enjoyed watching James learn to live again for himself, not just for his daughter. This is a beautiful romance that also drives home the importance of family and the tightrope of fear that parents face every day. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A Tearjerker. A beautiful story, with a happy ending, about the heartbreak of losing a child and the highs and lows of organ transplants. Well worth reading. Warning don’t read this book when you have a cold it will make your headache worse! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a story that will touch your hearts . The author deals with the subject of organ transplants , the donor’s family and those you who receive the organ. For one set, in this case Rachel Thompson, the death of her little boy, might have given others a chance to live, but Daniel’s death has left Rachel a shell of her former self. How can a mother ever overcome such sorrow? For James McClain and his daughter Molly, a heart transplant has given them joy and a chance of having a healthy and long life. They meet at a camp for those that have received a transplant and their families. Rachel is there as the art teacher, and as an ultimatum from her boss. James, a psychologist, is intrigued by Rachel and the friendship develops into something very special. Something Molly is trying to encourage , since she wants a Mom. It’s a thought provoking story that is at times sweet, at others heartbreaking but also heartwarming. A chance to heal, new beginnings and hope. Another winner by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
