For The Love Of Ricky is a prequel to Mystery At The Hot Pond. Shoe Makinen reflects on the early days with his little brother Richard who was born in 1919.
Shoe was compelled to share this piece after his friend, MaryAnne DuPree expressed how special it must be to have a sibling -- to laugh with, to play with, just to have around. Shoe knew that MaryAnne didn’t fully comprehend what tribulations come from having a younger brother in the home.
Twelve years old at the time of this telling, Shoe hearkens back to Ricky’s arrival when Shoe was seven. He hopes that you, the reader, will gain a bit of insight into his little brother and the upset that Ricky brought to Shoe’s life at Stoney Creek.
