Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke's Late Wife by Bree Wolf

BONUS: 2nd epilogue included!

A grieving widower. A strong lady. And a little girl who needs them both.

After losing his wife in an accident, GRAHAM ASTOR, DUKE OF KENSINGTON, decides that love is not worth the risk of having his heart broken all over again. Even his little daughter he keeps at a distance, afraid to hurt her with the darkness that now lives in his heart. Since he is unable to be the father she deserves, he vows to find her a mother who will heal her little heart.

At a garden party, Graham spots a young woman with a shy smile tending lovingly to her little cousins…and he knows his duty.

As the black sheep of her family, ROSABEL LANDER has no illusions about love. After her parents’ deaths, her aunt and uncle reluctantly took her in, demanding nothing short of complete obedience. Unable to live down her past, Rosabel only wishes for one thing: freedom.

However, before she dares to take the first step toward an independent future, a cold-hearted stranger asks for her hand in marriage…and as the obedient niece, Rosabel cannot refuse.

Will Rosabel find love after all? Or will the memory of Graham's late wife keep them both from finding happiness?

"I love reading regency romance that involve arranged marriages which turn out to be wonderful in the end. Excited this is a series! A clean read with some sizzle." - Denise B, Review

"Characters are wonderfully written, each layer being teased away from each one. All this led to a well woven story that I could not put down, reading the book in just a few short hours!" - Patricia, Review

"Definitely a buy book.......However, do not expect a light read. There are emotions and tangles and twists and turns. The characters, the life, the plot all were wonderful. I was caught up in the book and did not shut my kindle off until 3 in the morning and the book finished!" - Swedenmom, Review

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Bree Wolf has always been a language enthusiast (though not a grammarian!) and is rarely found without a book in her hand or her fingers glued to a keyboard. Trying to find her way, she has taught English as a second language, traveled abroad and worked at a translation agency as well as a law firm in Ireland. She also spent loooong years obtaining a BA in English and Education and a MA in Specialized Translation while wishing she could simply be a writer. Although there is nothing simple about being a writer, her dreams have finally come true.

"A big thanks to my fairy godmother!"

Currently, Bree has found her new home in the historical romance genre, writing Regency novels and novellas. Enjoying the mix of fact and fiction, she occasionally feels like a puppet master (or mistress? Although that sounds weird!), forcing her characters into ever-new situations that will put their strength, their beliefs, their love to the test, hoping that in the end they will triumph and get the happily-ever-after we are all looking for.

This book was too drawn out; characters were constantly questioning themselves in every chapter, which gets annoying. Reader is aware of the characters, the plot and the issues...why do authors have to fill pages with characters' "mind chatter" as i call it? Waste of pages and waste of time for reader. That being said, after finishing the book, I believe it was a decent plot/story albeit overwritten

The story is well written, but the occasional misuse of words is frustrating. This is why you need a copy editor, not just a trip through spell check. Also, Regency ladies did NOT just throw themselves on the back of a horse and ride off. A great plot devise, but not actually possible in period. Her gown would prevent it. Too narrow to ride astride, too delicate to ride sidesaddle. You need an editor, and to do a bit more research, but overall a good effort.

Kind of dragged the reader along with ALOT of hemming and hawing. I was surprised to see so many grammatical errors. Not bad for free, though.

The characters were appealing, but I felt as if I were floating through the story at times. There was very little grounding in the every day life of the characters so while they seemed real their situation often did not. The author seemed more focused on describing the glistening of their eyes than creating a sense of real place and time. There were also jarring errors including modern speech patterns (come on) and context. As another reader mentioned, especially the scene where the heroine swung effortlessly onto the horse. The potentially tight skirts aside, our heroine is petite and the stallion is described as huge. Add to that the fact that we have no precedence of her riding astride and the saddle was supposedly for her husband and the whole scene becomes problematic. In addition, their clothing was barely mentioned. Not only does the clothing help ground us in the time period, but is the reader truly to believe that an unwanted orphaned niece of a Lord was provided a substantial wardrobe that befit a Duchess? Or that she was completely abandoned to make her own clothing selections without some sort of guidance? Dukes are typically fairly conscious of their station and their need to display their wealth, otherwise the rumor mill can cause all kinds of problems. The author's general character development is sound, I think a bit more research into the time period is all that is needed. That, and a bit more editing. My version includes a strike through duplicated word. I don't understand how that made it into the final publication.

Good clean read.

The author was very considerate in creating romance between Rosabel and the Duke in an aganiozing slow pace. It was so slow that I found myself in the brink of hyperventilating and throwing my tablet towards my bedroom wall. Let's just say that good books for me Are the ones that make me contemplate skipping towards the end to satisfy the need to discover all the secrets I want to know. In conclusion, this book gave me insight on how being understanding and compassionate can change your life in a very positive way. I could say this masterpiece well worth the time occupying.

I enjoyed the way the different characters had a past that caused them inability to see reality but love, courage and a child overcame the obstacles standing in the way of their happiness.

I normally do not enjoy Regency type books with the overly graphic sex pages. To my delight there was a wonderful plot with great chacters that we three dimentional. I can't wait to read more.

Rosabel is an orphan who lost her parents before her character had a chance to fully develop. Her cousin's support was all she had. Her saving light was her love of her younger cousins. She was wlling to play with them and she paid attention when society did not encourage it. Graham was angst driven and his fear of caring made him appear heartless. His daughter deserved to have a mother and since Leonora's tragic death, he felt it was time to find someone to be Georgina's mother figure. Watching Rosabel playin with the laughing children at a garden party was the moment he knew he had found a mother for his daughter. Rosabel wasn't really given a choice. Her aunt and uncle would have preferred that their oldest daughter was marrying a duke, but they made sure that Rosabel appreciated such Graham's proposal and that they would not brook any disagreement on her part. The complex storyline was interesting. There were surprises as you read, and I enjoyed such a well developed bunch of characters. The story was definitely NOT a cliffhanger. I recommend it! P Especially for readers who enjoy a story where the sex is NOT told in minute detail. This is a romsnce about waiting until it is right....

It is hard to put down once picked up, a great tale of the most unsuspecting source. What an enjoyable read

This story could have been shorter. I had to skip parts of just to get through it. The story line was okay. I just expected it wouldbe better after reading the description.

Hate to say, I was both bored and annoyed by this book. Many and blatant grammatical and word use errors (sewn and sown are not the same!) as well as the main characters barely speaking to each other for the first hundred or so pages combine to make reading this book a slog. That said, I did like the characters and hoped Rosabel would break through to Graham which is why I forced myself to finish the book. I will not be buying any more of this series or this author. If you like reading stories with great detail then this one is for you. I'm not one of them. I wanted to find out how it ended,I just didn't like how long it took me to get there. To much detail, not enough conversation.

Love the storyline but it's too repetitive which makes the story drag.
