Overview

Free From The Tracks by K T Bowes

Awarded 5 Stars by popular book site, Readers' Favorite, this is Amazon bestselling teen author K T Bowes' first in the Troubled series for teenagers.

Sophia Armitage has a secret that will make everyone see her differently. She's a decent girl from a good family. They have worked hard to end up on 'the right side of the tracks' in the central north island town of Hamilton in New Zealand.

But things are never quite what they seem and for the troubled teen, life at the failing high school in the north of the city starts to horribly unravel. Finally pushed too far by a group of girls whose only purpose in life is to make her existence a misery, Sophia is forced to fight back, ending in disastrous consequences.

Sophia's painful crush on Dane McArdle, the alpha male of the poisonous little group from the wrong side of town, unleashes a whole host of trouble onto Sophia's head.

Their families are so different and yet who gets to decide which side of the tracks is the right side and once you've landed on the wrong side, what will be the cost of crossing back over?

About the Author

K T Bowes lives in New Zealand between the Hakarimata Ranges and the Waikato River, where many of her novels are set. Raised in England to soldiering parents, she has lived in four different countries, settling in New Zealand in 2006 with her husband and four children. The dumbest thing she ever did was jump out of a plane at 2000 feet, attached to a fragile piece of silk because a friend asked her to. The best thing she ever did was marry her husband after knowing him only a few months and the scariest thing was arriving at Auckland Airport with a one-way ticket, four small children and a suitcase each.

K T Bowes loves painting Folk Art and landscapes as well as writing. She shares her home with her husband, a fickle ginger cat and often a crazy horse or two in the paddock.

Reviewed by Bil Howard for Readers' Favorite The minute Dane McArdle bumped into her as she was leaving the doctor’s office, her whole world began to change drastically. Sophia Armitage had some significant decisions to make about how she was going to handle her future and who was going to be in control of it in Free From the Tracks: The Teen Mayhem Series Book 1. K.T. Bowes tells the story of what ought to be a somewhat normal twelfth year for a teen at an inner city New Zealand high school, which is suddenly ripped apart by the disappearance of Sophia’s mother who is dying of cancer, leaving Sophia and her father alone. Added to that drama, which has caused her to distance herself from her friends and her only protection from the “plastics,” a mean set of girls who had already beaten her up in ninth year, is the new friendship that she has developed with Dane. Dane is from the “wrong side of the tracks,” but the line that the tracks forms in order to divide the two becomes more and more dim as she comes to realize the truth about Dane. The new problem that she faces is that the jealous “plastics” won’t stand for letting her and Dane be together and they have plenty of abuse laid out for her. Will she fight back or go down without a murmur? K.T. Bowes has written an excellent beginning to a series that is sure to be exciting and full of drama in Free From the Tracks: The Teen Mayhem Series Book 1. The action and drama is all too real as Dane and Sophia navigate their way through crippling circumstances that challenge the depths of their strength as they are forced to press forward practically alone. The reader will feel the depth of emotion and the struggle that each of them faces as they work out their challenges, both separately and together. Deep, realistic and in many ways inspiring, Free From the Tracks: The Teen Mayhem Series Book 1 is not only a fantastic coming of age novel on its own, but a great beginning to a promising series.

Is this a good book? I have not read it yet, but is it a good book? I read stuff that sounds interesting, but aren't really deserving even 1 star. So, with that in mind, I ask again. Is this a good book?
