My Thoughts on Frost Heaves: Frost Heaves is another knock it out of the park novel by author Alana Terry. I’ve loved every book of hers I’ve read and this is no different. This book sucks you in. You cannot put it down. Your life depends on you continuing to turn the pages of this book until it’s over. Wow. I loved this book. It’s a great suspense read that is also a quick read. The characters are full of personality and I couldn’t help but fall in love with Dez and her very active little mouth. I mean who wouldn’t fall in love with a kid that cute with that much personality. But I also felt a tiny bit sorry for Jade having to parent her alone. I don’t know if I could do that one justice alone. You’d need back up! Maybe Jade will get back up soon. The book doesn’t quite say but I’ve got my fingers crossed. Officer Ben would be a nice addition to the family. I don’t want to give away too much but I can’t help but talk about the book some because it was a great read. Jade escaped a cult that she was raised in with her life and a wonderful blessing in her daughter. But she lost her parents because of their support in her. Or at least that’s how she sees it. When her past becomes her present can she save what she loves most? Can she overcome her fear and even hatred of law enforcement long enough to let them help her find her baby girl? And maybe could she learn to rely and trust on one officer in particular? Great novel! Loved this suspense book as much as the other books by this author that I’ve read. She knows how to write them to keep you engaged and involved til the last word is spoken or written in this case. I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

How far will a mother go to save her child...? If you like gritty romantic suspense. If you are into tales of survival. If stories featuring strong women who will go to any lengths to protect their child(ren). Well, have I got the story for you! Frost Heaves is the third book in author Alana Terry's riveting Alaskan Refuge Christian Suspense series. And boy, is it a doozy! I absolutely could not put the book down. I read it late into the night until I literally couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and I picked it back up to finish the last few chapters first thing in the morning before I even got up for the day. As is her wont Alana Terry took on some difficult topics that people face today. Briefly touching on race tension she focused more on church cults that enslave their followers through fear and off the wall interpretations of the Bible. But for me Frost Heaves was even more about healing from the pain of the past and it's about one tough cookie who will do whatever it takes to protect her little girl. The Alaskan winter landscape comes to life very vividly in this book, with its short days and long nights. I found the descriptions of the area around Glenallen, a real town, by the way, to be fascinating. I really enjoyed Frost Heaves, it's a real toss-up whether this is my favorite book in the series, and would definitely recommend it to fans of the grittier side of the Christian romantic suspense genre. Alana Terry is a whiz at the genre and I seriously hope she continues on with more similar books because, I for one, will be more than glad to devour them like I did this one. Tell Tale Book Reviews gives Frost Heaves by Alana Terry a 4.5 Bark rating. (I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)

A story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you can’t guess how this story will play out, and when the facts start to play out as to why this is even happening, no not imaginable! From a cult to being saved, Jade, the mother of a precocious five-year-old, is about to give her testimony when the unthinkable happens. The author gives us a story of a fierce mother’s love for her child, but she has taught her well, and we hope for survival. Add in a bit of sweet romance, and the love of a church community, and we have a page-turner read. I received this book through Celebrate Lit Blogging Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

The story is fast paced as we get a look into a church that some would call a cult. Over the years we have heard of cults and how controlling they are to the members. This book unravels the brainwashing by a leader who preys on young girls in his flock. Jade is a young woman who disbanded from a cult and still lives with the memories of her abuse. Her daughter Dez is pretty sassy for a five year old. I felt she did take some liberties with the way she talked to adults and Jade definitely had her hands full trying to discipline Dez. The action really starts when Dez turns up missing while at church. I did like reading Jade's testimony to the church she attends now. It shows her bravery and deep faith in God. Someone is out to destroy Jade and take Dez to raise as their own. The background of Alaska was well written and I could feel the chill in the air as the search for Dez heightens. I loved the suspense of who had Dez and the strength Jade showed in doing whatever it took to save her daughter. The spiritual lessons in the story are good as the author shows the unwavering faith of a mother and the protection God placed around Dez. It is hard to imagine how a person can control others by twisting the Word of God. The ending is good as the author delivers a story packed with twists. I did enjoy the story and hope the author has more of these type of easy to read mysteries coming out. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Frost Heaves pulls you in from the moment Jada begins speaking to her daughter at the beginning. This book is full of danger, intrigue, and cults. Jada is a strong and determined woman who faces the scary reality of her daughter being kidnapped. Full of everything I would expect involving cults, Alana Terry does an incredible job of bringing the scary realities to life. Ben provides the perfect match for Jada and the perfect law-enforcement officer to find her daughter. This book includes both present-day actions as well as flashbacks to explain how Jada and her daughter reached the point they are at today. I enjoyed getting to know Jada, Ben, and her daughter. I found myself unable to put the book down because of the Christian thriller aspects of the book. The twists and turns provide just the right amount of suspense to keep her readers interested and wondering what will happen next. So if you enjoy Christian thrillers full of intrigue and danger, check out this book for yourself. I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

Alana Terry shares another unique novella in her Alaskan Refuge series that includes Bible-believing Christians and a young woman in an incredibly challenging situation. Each person is defined as well as necessary for their role, and the plot is every mother’s worst fear. The author is not afraid to confront issues that affect countless folks today and shows how one’s faith in God can get them through anything. Jade is a young mother preparing to give her testimony at her church in Glennallen, Alaska. Her precocious five-year-old daughter Dez, wise beyond her tender age, wants to stay with Jade, but Jade prefers that Dez stay downstairs where the younger children are being watched. Some things Dez simply doesn’t need to hear about. Best friend Aisha told Ben, a state trooper, about a threatening letter Jade received, but due to horrors in her past, she doesn’t trust cops, especially white cops. Jade is the only African American person in Glennallen, and experience taught that there was little justice for black folks. Jade shares in her testimony about the church she and her parents had been involved with, one that didn’t seem like a cult until they learned the hard way. When her testimony was over, Jade looked for Dez, but she never returned to the room where Mrs. Spencer, the Sunday school teacher, was watching the children. Jade thought her little girl may have hidden somewhere in the church and fallen asleep, and looked everywhere. When Dez seemed nowhere to be found, it was time for Ben, the state trooper, to get involved before the congregation left for the evening. It is well below zero, and Dez didn’t have her coat. A mother’s worst nightmare comes to life when Dez is missing without a trace. This is a nonstop, emotion-charged novels that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Alaska is a cold, wild, yet beautiful backdrop in this action-packed tale. It is hard to put down and is a fast read. Spiritual abuse is not often written or talked about but is very real, contributing to many crimes against body and soul. We see how Christians can come together to help and encourage through crises whether directly or indirectly related to cults. I highly recommend this to those who are fans of the author, who appreciate hard-hitting suspense stories with the possibility for romance. From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this from Celebrate Lit, and this is my honest review.

What a fabulous way to spend a few hours, although you might want to make sure the lights are on and the door is locked! The author has once again given us a book that is impossible to put down. Growing up in a cult, Jade just did what she was told, until everything changed. You would think that everything should be better once that was behind her. However, that was not the case. Losing her parents, she had to continue on alone as a single parent to her young daughter. But all was not lost, as she found a wonderful church family. But then the world crashed around her. Will she and her daughter come out of this alive and unscathed? With kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and being lost at night in the winter, this novel will keep you at the edge of your seat until you are finished! I received an ARC through CelebrateLit. No review was required. The five star rating and impressions are my own.

This was by far my favorite book in the series. The books are all standalones so they don't have to be read in any particular order. Especially when detailing traumatic events, I felt that this book did a much better job of revealing to the reader what happened without going too deep into descriptive content. I found some of the violence to be even more intense but it wasn't as graphic or drawn-out as it could have been and I appreciated that. I don't know what it is exactly, but cults have always intrigued me. Without giving too much away, Jade and her family left the cult a few years back after Jade became pregnant with her daughter Dez. When Dez disappears she is forced to look back at her life with the cult and consider if any of the people from her past may be responsible. As with any other cult, I struggle to fathom how people can twist biblical doctrine for their own purposes and lead people astray into bondage. The suspense in this novel was tangibly felt throughout. It was not an easy book to put down at any point. I would recommend it to suspense fans who particularly like a lot of intensity. *I received a copy of this book through CelebrateLit. Thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone.
