Gifts from Heaven is a compilation of stories of ‘’God things”, better known as miracles. While I always try to go into these types of stories with an open mind (some claims are so preposterous and you just really have to be alert), I always enjoy reading stories about when God worked in people’s lives. I’ve also reviewed another compilation of stories by the same person, Jesus Talked to Me Today, which was about kids’ encounters with God. This one, Gifts From Heaven, contained more healing type stories, whether it be physical chronic or terminal disease, emotional stress or disability, or social stresses. While there were a couple stories where I was a little skeptical about, overall, they all contributed to the telling of what God has done, which I really like. Occasionally during times of spiritual drought, it can be nice to hear of what God has done for others, although it may not be evident in your life at the present moment, which is what Gifts From Heaven is. As for the stories themselves, they were well written and conveyed the intentions and feelings well, generally speaking. Some of the pieces weren’t as clear as they could have been, but overall they were clear and portrayed the spirit well. "The best and sweetest flowers of paradise God gives to His people when they are upon their knees. Prayer is the gate of heaven." - Thomas Brooks Happy Easter! On this special day of celebration of the One who's risen from death, I want to share this book, Gifts from Heaven with you. This book includes true stories of miraculous answers to prayers, compiled by James Stuart Bell. These stories may not be relate to your specific journey, but it too speak of the love our Lord Jesus bestows on us. He listens! God listens! And He will answer our prayers, though it may not be what we expected, but He will answer. Inspiring, encouraging and calming, these stories from ordinary people will speak to you, some more than others, but it will. I particularly like the fact that not all stories are easy breezy. There were struggles, not the struggles of what the author was praying about, but struggles to have the faith to believe that your prayers will be answered. Isn't that common for us, even those that have committed for years? Faith can seem easy, but sometimes it may be the hardest thing to acknowledge and truly trust. As Thomas Brooks said, prayers is the gate to heaven. Pray, seek and let Him into your life to carry your burdens with you. In all Gifts from Heaven spoke of the gifts of answered prayers in our lives. Our Lord Jesus is a gift to us. Will you accept Him? Gifts From Heaven: True Stories of Miraculous Answers to Prayer, a book of short essays detailing a moment in each of the individual author’s life where God answered a prayer, was complied by James Stuart Bell (who also wrote one of the essays). I will admit that I do not often read books about miraculous answers to prayer. Not because I don’t believe in the power of prayer (I do), but because the stories tend to be heart wrenching, dramatic, and often, cross into simply unbelievable. Thankfully, Gifts from Heaven isn’t one of those books. These stories are heart wrenching and dramatic, and I admit I shed a few tears while reading. There are stories about people being healed from terminal disease, people being uninjured after accidents that should have been fatal, and a few in which prayers were answered not in the way the author had hoped. One of my favorites is “He Opened My Eyes” by Jeff Adams. This particular story stuck with me and I marked it to read again later. I don’t want to spoil it, so I won’t reveal what it was about. But all of the stories are well-executed and gave me much to ponder on about how prayer works in my own life. I give this book 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who struggles with believing that prayers are always answered. **I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Bethany House. All opinions are my own.**
Loved the book of stories of everyday people and what God did in their lives. People say miracles don't happen today! Well I totally disagree with that thinking. If each of us just took time set back and thought on things that has happened in our lives we would see where God was working in our lives. I know trials are no fun in life but we go through those that we may grow closer to the Lord. All trials may not end well but in them we still can learn where we need to put our lives in God's hands. Not every story has a happy ending but through the loss we might gain. Through this book you will see answers to many situations in peoples lives. Very emotional book especially when the stories hits part of your life. Great book and I believe it will revive you! God is so good and he is the mighty healer. Great stories compiled by James Stuart Bell.
Looking for a powerful uplifting book about miracles God has been preforming in the lives of others? Told by the witnesses themselves, we read about all kinds of miracles, including people who's cancer has vanished, people who were in accidents and walked away, angles comforting, and even an account of a person accepting Jesus on his death bed. A fabulous little read!
Sometimes it doesn't feel like God is hearing our prayers. Or maybe it feels like we don't know how to pray "good enough." This collection of real-life stories shows that God does indeed answer the prayers of ordinary people asked in ordinary ways. Gifts From Heaven: True Stories of Miraculous Answers to Prayer compiled by James Stuart Bell is an uplifting book overflowing with true life stories of answered prayer. Gifts From Heaven contains forty stories of answered prayers from ordinary people. The stories are each different. Some people had miraculous healing, others were divinely protected and still others received answers that were a little different than what they expected but were still what they considered to be miraculous answers from God. Some stories were more uplifting than other stories but all of the stories left me thinking about God and how He can touch all of our lives when we spend time in prayer with Him. I like books with short true stories in them to uplift me like Gifts From Heaven. I like that I can read just one or two or a few in a day and put the book down and pick it up when I need it again. I also think this book could be uplifting for someone going through a difficult challenge of some sort who needs a reminder that God does indeed hear our prayers so it could be a nice gift book for someone. I received this book from Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for the book.
Gifts from Heaven delivers just what it describes it will - stories of answered prayers. It is a kaleidoscope a cacophony of wonderful stories of near death experiences, people seeing JESUS, people who had a death sentence on their life from doctors and JESUS had other plans, etc. For example a man had a bad heart valve and was told to check on it yearly or he would die - well he let it go for 7 years - he went back to see how bad it was - the techs who took the tests called other techs in and then doctors - then the tests where over and he had to see his doctor - the doctor was upset - which made him worried - he said he had never seen anything like it before - and that there was no explanation - but his valve grew another valve and that that was impossible you are either born with it or not - well we all know what happened - GOD gave it to him - as an answer to all his praying - this is the kind of stories you will find in this book - it is intense, it is emotional - you will find yourself praising the LORD, crying, and knowing that your life is in GOD's hands for ALL THINGS and HE is faithful and just - why some of you ask - because HE loves us with ALL of HIS Heavenly Heart......I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
