Platinum-award winning country music star Scotty Mc Creery shares his path from North Carolina to American Idol to the top of the country music scene.

It was just a simple singing competition that would be fun to audition for. Who knew what kind of doors it might open for a sixteen-year-old from Garner, North Carolina.

Go Big or Go Home is the story of a kid with country songs in his soul. The special thing with Scotty Mc Creery, however, is that he has this God-given ability to sing those tunes the exact way they should be sung. Daring to enter the limelight at such a young age, Scotty finds himself embraced by the nation, and even overseas, as he competes on "American Idol". This is his journey from his North Carolina roots to winning America’s most popular singing competition and launching a musical career he had always dreamt about.

Go Big or Go Home narrates Scotty's journey from a kid imitating Elvis on the school bus to 30 million across America tuning in to see him win Season 10 of "American Idol”. Now as he completes his ground-breaking fourth album, Scotty shares a glimpse of where he came from and the impact his faith, family and friends have had on a humbled guy who keeps asking “why me?”

Go Big or Go Home by Scotty McCreery isn't exactly an autobiography. It's more like what you'd expect if you sat down and talked with Scotty over coffee and had someone type up everything he said. It's the story of his childhood, American Idol ride, faith, and more. If you or someone you know is a Scotty McCreery fan, I highly recommend this book. And if you aren't a fan, I suggest you read the book--you may just become one. I really liked how down to earth Scotty seemed throughout the book. He told funny stories; he told sad stories. I've also read several other books co-written with Travis Thrasher, and while I am starting to notice similarities, I thought he helped the book flow smoothly and hold my interest. I couldn't put this book down; it was like having a conversation in which I could both get to know Scotty more and feel as if I was going behind the scenes of American Idol! This would make a great gift for country music fans. It's an encouraging read, to see someone stand up for what they believe in, and even read gut-honest stories about when he didn't, but he went back and apologized. Thank you so much to Zondervan publishers and their Book Look bloggers program with Thomas Nelson for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive, nor were they affected by anything other than the book itself (and being a fan of the author). :)

I have been a fan of American Idol, and in particular Scotty McCreery, since his Idol audition in Milwaukee in 2011. This book has been five years in the making and the stories Scotty and his co-author, Travis Thrasher, have to tell do not disappoint. An excellent book for all ages - especially young people finding their way and having a dream. There are plenty of behind-the-scenes tidbits about Idol, the audition process, grueling Hollywood week, the 24/7 schedule, the hometown visit back to Garner, NC. Scotty includes wonderful stories about his family, his early musical influences, life on the road with his band, Dry County, how his faith got him through many challenging moments, the ups and downs of the music business and what he has learned about himself along the way. The book reads like a conversation with an old friend and is hard to put down. Scotty's personality shines across every page. I didn't think it was possible to like and admire this young man any more than I already did but after reading GBOGH I certainly do! (If you have any "reluctant" readers in your family, get them the audio version! Scotty's rich, smooth voice is a pleasure to listen to whether singing a song or reading his book to you!)

You can easily hear Scotty's voice as you read. His humbleness shines through the words of this book as it does in his songs. Loved this journey of 5 years Scott so eloquently delivers.

Reading Go Big or Go Home I felt I was sitting with Scotty and he was telling me about his dream and how he began his journey and the road it has taken him on. I love his sense of self, his commitment to always do his best, his faith, his competitiveness, and of course his love for, home , family and friends. Travis Thrasher did a great job putting Scotty's words into a book that has made dedicated fans fall in love with Scotty all over again. I recommend this book for all, but especially believe it will be a great book for young people who have a dream they wish to achieve.

I really enjoyed reading about Scotty McCreery's journey. Go Big or Go Home isn't an autobiography, Scotty calls it a travelogue of his life to this point. I loved the way this book was written. It was almost like you were sitting and talking to Scotty, with little tidbits thrown in when he remembered them. These were the comments from his fans, bandmates, friends etc. There is some of his childhood covered, but most of the book is about his time on American Idol and how his life changed after he won. I love how down to earth he is. He is humble and always gives credit to his family, his friends, teachers, bandmates and of course to God. He recognizes that his singing is a gift from God and he will do nothing to sully that. His faith is strong and very much a part of his life and I enjoyed hearing about that. You really get to know Scotty and his family in this book. Even though he is only 22, he has a lot of experiences to share and you can learn a lot from this young man. I am not an American Idol watcher, but I did see Scotty McCreery in concert a couple of years ago and after reading this book, I would probably go again. If you or someone you know is a Scotty McCreery fan, I highly recommend this book. And if you aren't a fan, I suggest you read the book anyway as you may just become one. He is rather inspirational and you might learn something from this young man. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Go Big Or Go Home The Journey Toward The Dream By Scotty McCreery The cover of the books are the first thing I ever look at sometimes I just pick the book by its cover that started as a joke between me and a good friend and I have found a lot of great reads that way. I love this cover as Scotty’s eyes seem to talk to you about the confidence he has and something even deeper, which you have to find out by reading his story and what gives him the confidence he has. I’ll be very honest with you I do not watch American Idol I only watched it a few times like 3 maybe because I felt if you were a Christian that was strike no. one against you, my opinion. But Scotty’s idol was Elvis and Elvis was mine so I had to get this book to read, he’s not bad if Elvis is his idol! To find out Scotty sings country I love country. I love most music but heavy medal or rap that is not music to me!! To top the charts for me is Z88.3 I love Christian music first, oldies and country. Scotty is humble you’ll find that out as you read through his book. His faith did waver at all and God seems to come first which puts him right at the top along with Tim Tebow. I love the fact he stands by his faith, his principles and his family roots. For such a young man to stand up to station managers or even stars that are popular and sing different kinds of songs when they felt he made a mistake Scotty kept hearing God’s voice and followed and obey the voice that was more important to him the any famous person, hey for Scotty I say!! Go man, Go!! I also loved the fact that he came out and apologized for not standing up for a young boy for being dropped from the group. That showed where his heart truly was, because God wants Christian to stand up for what is right. I also like the fact that Scotty didn’t feel comfortable singing a song that was totally against all he believed in again I praise Scotty for standing up for what his faith is all about. I recommend this book if you want to read a good humble Christian young man’s story. 5 Stars ISBN 978-0-310-34522-0

Go Big Or Go Home by Scotty McCreery is a real treasure! It is so much more than I even expected - inspirational, touching (had tears in my eyes several times), sweet, funny, and very, very interesting. Autobiographies aren't my go-to genre, and while this isn't exactly an autobiography, I believe that is the category it would fall into. I'm a fan of Scotty's and have been since I saw his audition on American Idol. I've seen his perform and follow him on Twitter. He and his family have always struck me as just good, down-to-earth people. In reading this book, I feel quite certain that impression is accurate. I met Scotty at one of his book signings, and once again felt how gracious he is. After reading this book, I am even more impressed with what a gift this talented young man is, and I believe he appreciates every blessing he's received. This book will make you feel good. It will remind you that dreams can come true. And most of all, it will remind you there is still a lot of good to be found in this crazy world. Thank you for a very well-written book Scotty McCreery - it really is a treasure.

have to say I was pretty surprised to see a book by Scotty McCreery. I mean he is only in his early 20s. But like he said right off the bat – this book is not an autobiography – it is about his journey from a small town “Clayton Idol” contestant to an American Idol winner. We get to see a side of Scotty that most of us did not know – from the turtle in the tub incident to how he felt when he was held up at gun point with his college buddies, to the full out prank wars he has on the road. It was nice to see how he has stayed grounded, always going “home” for important events. The love and respect he has for his parents and sister, as well as, his religious beliefs, are shown throughout the book. We also get to see a little of his very personnel life with his home town girlfriend. I was a huge fan when he was on Idol and now I am glad to have read that he is out there doing what he loves – and doing is very well. I received this book from BLB in return of my honest opinion.
