The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said, "See to it that no one misses the grace of God." Over the centuries much ink has been spilled on the subject of grace. Yet perhaps nothing is as hard to explain as God's grace. It doesn't make sense. It's not fair. It can't possibly cover over what I've done. The best wayperhaps the only real wayto understand it is to experience it. But too often in our churches we're not getting grace across and grace is not experienced.
Bestselling author and pastor Kyle Idleman wants everyone to experience the grace of God. Through the powerful medium of story, Grace Is Greater leads readers past their hang-ups toward an understanding of grace that is bigger than our mistakes, our failures, our desire for revenge, and our seemingly impossible situations. No sin is so great, no bitterness so deep that God's grace cannot transform the heart and rewrite the story.
Perfect for individuals and also for small groups and church-wide studies, Grace Is Greater will help readers truly grasp God's grace, even if the Christians around them have failed to live it.

I have heard God’s grace described in various ways: amazing, scandalous, etc. Grace is difficult to define because it is beyond our comprehension, but in his book, “Grace Is Greater”, Kyle Idleman teaches about grace from scripture by showing the relationship of grace to our: Guilt, Brokenness Regrets Wounds Bitterness Vengeance Resentment Disappointments Weakness Despair Using scripture, real life stories, and his straight forward teaching style, Kyle calls all of us to define ourselves by what God’s grace says about us instead of by our sin, past abuse, or failures. Three things I enjoyed about the book were it’s easy readability, Kyle’s humor, and the concrete examples of what grace in action looks like in a person’s life. I would recommend this book to someone who needs to be reminded of God’s grace and who also needs to hear hope from others’ accounts of how God showed them his greater grace.
“Grace is Greater” by Kyle Idleman is the best book I’ve ever read on grace. And I’ve read a lot of books on grace! This book will make you laugh and cry (sometimes within the same paragraph)! Kyle shares true stories from his own life while also giving some basic and practical help throughout the text. Grace is one of the greatest things bestowed on us, yet so many times, we are hesitant to accept and show it. Kyle shows us how we can do this. He also stresses forgiveness and how important this is in the Christian life. There were so many quotes I loved throughout this book. I have highlighted so many great parts. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. It will truly change your life. It has changed mine! I received this book from Baker Books for my honest opinion.
A great book, it helps me to understand about God's grace and for me to apply grace into my life
Grace is Greater by Kyle Idleman is a life-changer! This book has helped me to understand so much about myself, and especially grace- how much I have received, and how I should be extending the same grace to others. One of the first things Kyle talks about is sin- and how we sometimes only see the sins of others. He mentions how if we aren’t the biggest sinner that we know, then we’re really not in tune with who we really are. But, even though we ARE the worst of sinners, not were, was, or have been- “…you’ve done nothing so horrible that grace can’t cover it. Grace is always greater, no matter what.” That is a big one for me. Each one of us knows deep down the things that we’ve done. Maybe it’s something so horrible, we expect that we could never be forgiven. But, grace is greater. Our God is bigger! He can use us for good. He can turn our bad times into better times. He extends grace like no other. I love how Kyle mentions that the only time in Jesus’s life, “when Jesus voluntarily and candidly tells someone he is the Messiah, the Son of God. And it’s to the Samaritan woman with a bad reputation who’s been married five times and is now living with some other guy. How’s that for grace?” No matter what you’ve done- God can use you! HIS GRACE IS GREATER. The theme of Grace is prevalent throughout the book- and Kyle mentions time and time again, situation after situation in which God uses our hurts, heartbreak, bitterness, all working together for good! I am so thankful and grateful that I serve a God who never lets me suffer alone. This book has urged me to reach out to others who may be hurting- to share his love and grace. To forgive those- even those who will never be sorry for hurting me. This book is a breath of fresh air- a reminder that no matter what, His grace will ALWAYS be greater! If you are in need of a pick me up, a subtle, or even not so subtle reminder of the Grace of our God- pick up this book. You will not regret it!
34103553 Becky Van Daniker's review Feb 27, 2017 · edit really liked it If you’re like me, then you’ve probably grown up in the church, read tons of books on grace, heard sermon after sermon about grace, and perhaps even attended Bible college where you’ve heard about it all the time. We’ve heard it so much that sometimes we miss out on experiencing the grace of God or even sharing it with others. Grace is Greater is not another book on the theology of grace. It’s more about experiencing the grace of God. I’ve been meaning to read some of Kyle Idleman’s books for awhile so when I was offered to review Grace is Greater, I got excited! Idleman is known for challenging believers in fully committing to God. We are reminded of the greatness of God and the consequences we experience when we choose to miss out on it. We are also reminded that we are to extend grace to others, even those we don’t like. This is not another book on the theology of grace, but rather on encouraging the reader to experience the grace of God. Idleman explains the seriousness of sin before we can fully understand and appreciate the beauty of grace. The author paints a vivid picture through personal experiences and stories as well as tons of scripture to back up his statements. Idleman speaks as if you were a friend discussing grace over a coffee. Highly recommended for anyone who longs to grow in their walk with Jesus Christ. While most believers may know what the word "Grace means", they as well as unbelievers don't necessarily understand why we need it or how we get it. And they don't always know how to extend it to others. Kyle's book not only explains how grace came into being, but he also gives the reader many examples of how God gives it to each one of his children. Throughout people's lives they make bad choices, decisions, act or speak in ways that cause them great regret, and are rejected to the point they are left feeling unloved and unworthy. Kyle explains how "grace" will help us overcome our choices, mistakes, regrets and lack of identity. Readers will also learn how necessary grace is for us to forgive those who have hurt us and how we are to give to others what God so freely gives to us. AS Kyle states on the back of his back of his book....."Perhaps nothing is as difficult to explain as God's grace. The best way--perhaps the only real way--to understand it is to experience it." And that to me pretty much sums up the book!! Until we experience grace ourselves we will never truly grasp the meaning or need for it.
God's grace is something we often talk about but never really stop to try to truly perceive. That's the exercise Kyle Idleman's book, Grace is Greater, wants the reader to do. Idleman is best known for his book Not a Fan, and I think people like his writing and teaching for its practicality and the way he captures the consciousness of the everyman. Grace is Greater is no different. Kyle starts with a simple equation: Grace > __________. He asks his congregation (and the reader) to fill in the blank with their worst sin. Kyle suggests throughout this book that we cannot ever hope to understand God's grace until we experience it. And when we do, we will realize, "The truth is I am worse than I ever wanted to admit, but God's grace is greater than I ever could have imagined." Idleman helps the reader to understand the power that this knowledge really has. He teaches that grace can erase our guilt and cover our shame. Grace can heal our relationships and cure our bitterness. And his book illustrates this in Idleman's typical no-nonsense style that you will appreciate and relate to quickly. Grace is Greater is Idleman's newest soon-to-be hit. After you read this book, pass it on to a friend. Our churches and our world could be mightily healed if we all begin to perceive how we are receiving God's grace every day. I received this book free from Baker Books through the Baker Books Bloggers Program. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.
Like every other one of his books, Kyle has given us an incredible read in Grace Is Greater. Full of light humor, loving truth and deep grace. I greatly appreciate the way Kyle can take a heavy topic and keep it light enough to be enjoyable but deep enough to really get to the heart of the topic. I also appreciate the way he writes to me, the average intellect. So many authors tackle the topic of grace and it quickly becomes highly academic and intellectual, hard to follow or understand and connect with. But Kyle takes the same topic and makes it accessible to me, to those like me who get lost in the high academic language, to those who like me need things kept simple yet true. I highly recommend all of Kyle's books and will certainly be adding this to the list I go to when asked for a book recommendation.
