Her Wicked Proposal by Lauren Smith

Fans of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton Series and Johanna Lindsey’s Malory Series will love the passionate romances and gripping adventures of the League of Rogues.

He doesn’t need his eyes to uncover her true beauty.

Cedric, Viscount Sheridan, is cursed. Once the ton’s golden boy, the loss of his sight has left him a reclusive shell of man. His days of womanizing, horse racing and pistol shooting lost forever.

Offered the chance to recapture a small part of his old life, he can’t refuse—even if it means accepting the shocking proposal of the infamous ice maiden, Anne Chessley.

Still reeling from her father’s death, Anne’s deepest wish is to avoid the hordes of fortune hunters who will soon be beating down her door. Proposing marriage to Cedric is an act of desperation, his unexpected acceptance a strange and wonderful dream.

His only stipulation: she must respond passionately and wantonly in his bed. Her agreement barely crosses her lips before he begins a sensual assault on the icy walls bitter secrets have built around her heart.

Yet even as they catch a glimpse of true happiness, betrayal is poised to sweep them away on opposing tides of danger.

Warning: Contains an outwardly aloof heroine with a secretly tender heart, a once-notorious rake who isn’t quite as rusty at seduction as he feared, and a band of rogues who join together to make sure happily-ever-afters do come true.

This is book 3 in the League of Rogues series. Anne Chessley is tired of all the fortune hunters coming to court her after her father's death. There is only one man who she thinks can help her, Cedric, Viscount Sheridan, who was once her suitor. She proposes a plan for them to marry freeing Anne from her unwanted suiters. But Cedric has a condition to his agreeing... Having once thought to seduce Anne, but getting the cold treatment from her, Cedric is surprised at her offer. Ever since going blind, he has struggled with what he is going to do with his life. Not being able to do the previous things he enjoyed, Anne's offer opens the doors to some possibilities. His one condition is that when they are in bed, she has to drop her ice maiden persona and respond to him. Can this marriage of convience turn into one of love? LOVED this story!! I've thought from the beginning of this series that it would probably end up being in the top 5 of my all time favorite ones and this story just solidifies that feeling. I loved Cedric. He thought his rakish days were over when he became blind, but he ended up just using his wiles on his wife instead. You know what they always say about a reformed rake... Anne had been hurt in the past and because of this she put up a shield around her heart and became the "ice maiden" that the ton gossiped about. It didn't take long for Cedric to melt that ice and wedge himself into Anne's heart. If you've read the other books in the series, the Rogues had to deal with their enemy again in this one. One of these day, he'll be taken care of. But until that point, he will be making trouble for the group. Smith gave many leads as to who might be the hero of the next story, but I can't find anything online to indicate who it might be. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Whoever it is, I'll be just as excited to read it as I was the other books in the series! Thanks go out to Samhain Publishing via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Her Wicked Proposal by Lauren Smith is a phenomenal read. Ms Smith has delivered a well-written historical romance book. The characters are amazing. Cedric and Anne's story is loaded with drama, suspense, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Lauren Smith in the future. Her Wicked Proposal is book 3 of The League Of Rogues Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I won a copy of this book.

I loved the first two books in the series, but this was my favorite thus far. Can't wait to start the 4th! Only criticism is that the editing wasn't as tight, and while one character's amnesia seemed to heal, it isn't really addressed.

I love a series where they don't just introduced a new person at the end but continue the story.

I’m not normally a reader of historical romance, being more of a science fiction/fantasy/romantic suspense/contemporary gal. But occasionally I indulge, the same way that I prefer savory and salty snacks but I will pop a chocolate now and again. Her Wicked Proposal is the third in Lauren Smith’s League of Rogues series, focused on the recently blinded Cedric, Viscount Sheridan and the recently bereaved Anne Chessley – two desperate individuals trying to rebuild their lives after tragedy. Despite being a Regency romance, Lauren doesn’t overwhelm with historical detail. The romance takes center stage, as it should. Even Cedric’s blindness isn’t over used, as his resilience in the face of such a debilitating handicap in a time when there was no accommodation – no ADA – is amazing, but that is an indication of Cedric’s character. And I love the Rogues. More like family than friends, like old army buddies, these men personify the saying that “real friends are those rare people who come to find you in dark places and lead you back to the light.” A saying that is particularly applicable here. They are rogues in the sense of lovable scoundrels, but more important, they are steadfast in their support and love for each other. I really love stories about families that aren’t “family” by blood. Some of my favorite quotes: “I felt that everything I’d ever known to be true wasn’t anymore. That my existence began in the curve of his smile, and the first breath in my lungs was rooted in the gleam of his eyes. My heart was his.” Beautiful prose, that. “Don’t worry, Anne. Even in a crowd I can still find ways to be alone with you.” And though she suspected he meant to sound rakish, the words and his tone were instead boyishly charming. These two are adorable. “It should frighten you to the bone, because my husband is never alone. At this moment there are five others coming. And they have ships and men of their own. They will do anything to save us. Track us across the world if they must. You can run home and hide in the deepest hole you can find, but you will not escape the League.” And that right there sums up the League. Her Wicked Proposal was everything I expected – fun, dramatic, charming, suspenseful, lushly romantic, and very well written. Can’t wait to find out what roguery and romance the League gets up to in the future! I received a complimentary copy of this book for review.

I really liked the love story between Anne and Cedric. They had been attracted to each other before tragedy struck, and they came together for what they thought could at least be a marriage of convenience. Luckily, they were able to find a passionate love, as well. The descriptions of how Cedric perceived the world after going blind led to a very sensual story. There was also a lot of action and intrigue, as the League of Rogues were up against their arch-nemesis, along with some new enemies. These men seem to have trouble follow them everywhere! I'm eager to read the other books in the series. SPOILER ALERT/TRIGGER WARNING: There is a rape involved.

Lauren Smith's Rogues are all wonderful! I think this is my favorite!! The Heroine, though cold, has her reasons and the Hero, truly is that he has just forgotten how to be one. Miss Smith's scene setting is among the best for me! I feel like I am with the characters in whatever they are doing or where they are! But it's not overdone, as I have read. Just enough to light your imagination and put you in the room with the characters. Cedric was once a well known, well sought after Rogue among the ton, but losing his eyesight has lost him his place in society. He has become a recluse. Until the "Ice Queen" comes calling. Anne Chessley's father has recently passed and she knows it is only a matter of time before the fortune hunters try their best to ruin her and trap her in a marriage of convenience and bank building for them. Cedric had some admiration for her in the past, so she is hoping to make him an offer. She figures that Cedric has no other options so why not propose a solution. Along the way, Anne shows a softer side and Cedric realizes he can do things he thought were lost to him. The theme, I feel, of this book is that love conquers all. The hero and heroine go through some tremendously arduous things, but can love really conquer everything? Read and see, You will not be disappointed! Fantastic story!!!

The best of this series so far. Lauren Smith is a fairly new author and she gets better with each book. Cedric has been blinded and he has become somewhat reclusive due to it. He was attracted to Anne Chessley at their first meeting, but she became known as the Ice Maiden. Imagine his surprise when she asks him to propose to her. No plot spoilers from me, but being the Rogues there will be danger and romance. I recommend this series. I'm looking forward to the rest of the Rogues getting their HEA.

"Be wicked with me, Anne." Her Wicked Proposal First off, I have to confess I am a bit obsessed with this series. I love my League of Rogues, Lauren Smith may have created them, but I am claiming them as mine. Bring on the intrigue, complex plots, hot men (eye brow wiggle), and sassy women. The Leagues story continues with Cedric and Anne story. Cedric is a broken man, he lost his sight after saving his sister from a fire. Before he was one of the ton's golden boys, now he avoids society and has become a recluse. Although he knows that marriage is not for him, since he is blind and doesn't want to be a burden to anyone, he can't stop thinking about Anne. The one woman who would not give him the time of day. She is put in a desperate situation with the passing of her father, to protect herself from fortune hunters, she proposes that they marry. Of course it will be one where there is passion but no love. Ha! You know they will fall passionately in love - even though they won't want to admit it. There were definitely times I was screaming at Cedric for being ridiculous. Also, you find out WHY Anne is an "ice queen" in this book, really puts her story in perspective. Can't wait for the next two books, especially my man Charles.

5 - "Negotiating? Is that what they are calling it nowadays?" Stars! Book three in The League of Rogues series gives us Cedric and Anne’s story. I have a huge soft spot for the cast of characters that Lauren Smith has created in this series, each and every book is better than its predecessor. One thing that always strikes me when I read one of Lauren Smith’s Historical books is just how well her writing voice translates back to those times, and it really on the mark again with Her Wicked Proposal. I think another big plus is that although the book is set in 1821, the author gives you strong men and equally strong women to take them on. It makes for entertaining banter and plenty of shenanigans to take place. Once again the author also manages to take the reader through a plethora of emotions as the book progresses. "Deep down you aren’t cold. You are an inferno, a blaze that consumes me." Told from several points of view the book focuses on the upcoming and speedy marriage of Cedric to Anne, after the adventures of the previous book in the series, Cedric is blind, struggling with loneliness and wondering what on earth he is going to do with his life to make him feel like he is worthy again. "Most women have faded in my mind, but not you. Never you." Anne struggling with the sudden and unexpected death of her father, is having to fend of fortune-hunters from every direction being her father’s only living heir. But a marriage arranged for convenience, suddenly looks like becoming a love match when both parties suddenly realize that deep buried feelings are not as dormant as originally assumed. "Passion is always possible when two hearts are willing." The threat of retribution from Hugo Waverley is still very real for all of the League members as well as their loved ones, and as you would expect plays a very big part in Cedric and Anne’s story. Lauren certainly has exceptional skills at offering a diverse and entertaining adventure, built on layers to keep the reader guessing up until its end. As well as being sexy, and funny with plenty of emotion from everyone involved to keep the story line moving along at a steady pace. ”You’ll be the death of me.” I love this series, I don’t read a huge amount of Historical fiction nowadays, and if you are similar to me in that way, then I cannot recommend highly enough that you make an exception for The League of Rogues, as they take Historical and fiction to a whole other level! ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Her Wicked Proposal by Lauren Smith successfully continues with the loves and exploits of a band of Regency rakes. The third book in her League of Rogues series shares vulnerability on a physical and emotional level. An edgy and seductive hero's magnetism leaves no doubt as to why this author's smart and determined heroine submits to his allure. Between the smoldering sexual tension and nail biting suspense in this masterfully devised story readers will be hard pressed not to finish it in one sitting. A strong talent Ms. Smith’s works are right up there with the best that historical romance has to offer! *I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.* *While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*

Totally loved this novel by Lauren Smith! 5 stars plus OMG I have just finished reading, Her Wicked Proposal, what an excellent and captivating novel, written by Lauren Smith! This author is a high quality writer and I just love her books and her style of writing. Her series, The League of Rogues, is a must to read, if you love historical romances filled with passion, intrigue and adventure. She really pulled me again into Cedric and Anne's lovely story. London 1821, since her father's death, Anne, needs to marry, in fear of being pursued by fortunes hunters. So, she concocts a plan and offers a proposition to Cedric. Will he accept? At what condition? But Cedric, is now blind, and has to rely on others. Can he put his pride aside? Will she become the reason worth living for? Together they will embark on a journey of twists and turns, that will bring them closer into a beautiful strong rich relationship. We meet again the charming rogues Godric, Lucien, Charles Ashton, Jonathan and the delightful women in their lives. Super hot connection between her two characters and high sexual intensity that keeps you reading until the very last page! Some phrases are so sensual! Cedric “But I will warn you my appetite for pleasure is voracious” …..”Melt for me, love”...such passion in her writing! It is also a story filled with trust and tenderness! I devoured this book! Some stories are so marvelous to read! I have to say, that this one pleased me very much! To me, Ms. Smith is an author that I really love and highly recommend Her Wicked Proposal! I wonder who’s happily-ever-after love story will be next!

The connection between the two main characters is what made Her Wicked Proposal such a beautiful story. Neither wanted to need each other and considered themselves to be flawed in some way but that is what made Anna and Cedric's story such a breathtaking discovery. Cedric's torment is so real it screams from every page. Anna wants more than just to be wanted for her fortune. She wants to be loved for herself not what she has, but who she is. In my opinion that is why she had such empathy for Cedric. This story is so well thought out it is almost hard to forget that it comes with a mystery mixed in. Her Wicked Proposal is a compassionate love story that is as puzzling as it is perfect. The seamless presentation makes it a worthy excursion. I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Good plots, amateurish writing, needless sex.

It was almost a stand out for its genre but became predictably boring by the time it got to the spying and dashing through the country melodrama. It was a more of "oh great this again," instead of an edge-of-my-seat experience. If your new to this romance sub-genre then don't continue reading the review and buy the book, it has a lot to offer. I was attracted to it because of Anne's proposal (which didn't disappoint) and the blind element, which surprised me at how well done it was (the details of the hardships went above-and-beyond). If the action wasn't the same old, same old it would've been an easy 4 3/4 stars- the ending ruined it a little bit as well. I want to note I have not read the previous books in the series. It was because it seemed this book would be a twist to the formula that I bought it. I don't feel like I missed anything but not reading the previous ones so in that well-done! SPOILERS I surprisingly love the amnesia aspect, it adds to the story instead of producing eye rolls. However I feel like I missed something when it came to her memories returning. Maybe I did; but, I'm not re-reading to find out if she mentioned when all the memories came back, or if she just started participating in conversations that had nothing to do with the memories the author emphasized had returned. I love a great HEA ending (it's the reason I read these); however, I was a tiny bit disappointed he got his sight back and really disappointed in how it happened. The gradual thing was great but was ruined by him getting knocked about by an exploding ship. I felt like it cheapened their struggles a bit. I wish it was more Jane Eyre in execution.
