PLEASE BE WARNED: I agree that this is one of the best post-cold war apocalyptic novels I have ever read. One of my personal favorites. However the way they transferred the story to an e-book was frightful. Sentence run on's, single sentences as paragraphs without dialogue; notations at the bottom of the page (yes I did read the original in book form) were just thrown into another paragraph without regard to the confusion it caused. Its just a mess. Where were the proof readers after they transferred the title into an e-book? Someone butchered this fine book. Some archaic alpha-numerical sequence at the top of the book instead of the boon name or chapter??? A 5 star writing, not even a 1 star in the e-book effort. I think the reader is the one that got less then they paid for in the e-book version as its a mess.

I read this book in high school, which was some time ago, and had thought about it and some of the characters over the years. In rereading the story it still held my attention and the characters are just as memorable. Most post-apocalyptic tales deal with the more immediate future as opposed to one 5000 after the events. It tells a compelling story about the people and life after one such event. I recommend the novel.

A fascinating post-apocalypse fantasy about a ranger and his moose. Nothing complicated, but a good story in the style of Paul O. Williams.

Excellent story line and imagination, on par with the legendary 20th century SF authors.

One of the very best science fiction/ fantasy books I've ever read. Once started book's very difficult to put down. Author tells an extremely entertaing story of the far future after a civilization ending nuclear war. If you have any interest in science fiction you'llenjoy this story.

I read this novel as a young boy, it filled my mind with such colorful characters, mind boggeling villans and intense plot. I loved the book so much I wore it out. It went out of print and my paperback disintergrated and I grew older still thinking of the story that brought me such pleasure.I was astounded to find Unforsaken Heiro and I devoured that as well. But I missed heiros journey now I find them both in Ebook form. I get to enjoy them again. I've often thought what a great movie this would make. Hint Hint truely one of my favorite stories. I wish Mr. Lanier could have writen more.

You are completely caught up in the story from word one.  The characters are well developed as is the story line.

I have owned this book for years. I have reread it many times and always find it interesting, but then I have always been interested in reading apocalyptic novels (Daybreak 2250 AD, Alas Babylon...) so i had to read this when I first found it. Read it, I think you'l enjoy it

No spacing between the paragraphs. The chapter headings are not called out clearly. The TOC consists of a single numeric code. No evidence of italics... Find a physical copy instead.

I read this book several times when I was young, it was actually my dads book and het let me borrow it. Hiero's Journey is a great adventure! Its one of the best books I have read as well as The Unforsaken Hiero which is the continuation of Hiero's Journey. I would highly recommend this book.
