His One and Only Bride by Tara Randel is a beautiful story of reconciliation and second chances. It’s coupled with an intriguing plot line – what would you do if you thought your husband was dead and then he shows up a couple years later? – and layered characters, all ensuring you’ll stay fully engaged in this story from start to finish. This is not a “happily ever after guaranteed’ story… there are so many dimensions to Zoe and Mitch’s relationship. Their marriage was on the rocks before Mitch disappeared, so now where do they stand? Zoe has finally started dating again, so what happens to poor Tim? Mitch discovers he’s a father, much to his surprise, but will his injuries allow him to be the kind of dad he wants to be? For all of Leo’s short-so-far life, Zoe has been the only parent; now she has to share him with Mitch, who has a history of not sticking around. And finally, finding out what happened during Mitch’s disappearance – and what caused it – only raises more questions. Any one of these plot threads would be enough for an individual novel… all of them together, in this case, makes it a completely compelling read. The author does a great job of juggling all of these layers and preventing the story from feeling too cluttered. Another thing I really enjoyed about this novel was watching Zoe and Mitch fall in love again. It’s slow-going, and I already mentioned that a HEA is not predictable, but the tenderness that’s still between them – despite all that’s gone on – is so sweet to read. This is such a tender and uplifting story of hope and true love and restoration. And watching Mitch get to know his son is adorable, swoonworthy gold. Bottom Line: His One and Only Bride by Tara Randel is beautifully written with a sweet message & layered characters. Zoe’s hesitancy to welcome Mitch back with open arms is believable and sincere, as is Mitch’s struggle to adjust to life back home with a host of injuries and regret. If you want to renew your belief in the power of love and authentic forgiveness, this is a great choice for your TBR pile! (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

4 1/2 STARS! A shocking reunion leads to the fight of their life! A presumed dead resurrection is always a drama-filled subject that we don’t get to read all that often, so the turmoil it brought forth in this latest book in the Business of Weddings series really packed a punch. Mitch was really easy to sympathize with and I found myself pulling for him. Zoe on the other hand was really hard to like. I could sympathize with the picture she portrayed of their marriage prior to his “death”, but she was just too cold for my liking. Sometimes that type of heroine makes you strive for that happily ever after even more though because if he can still want her when she’s so distant, you know their prior love that he’s hoping to get back had to be a beautiful thing. Overall, an emotional read with relatable characters and a strong storyline! Mayor Zoe Simmons has only recently started to move forward in her life after losing her husband a couple of years ago. They were high school sweethearts who wed young and thought they’d be together forever, but even before he went missing on an assignment and was presumed dead, their marriage was on the verge of being over. She was left with more of him than she would have ever believed possible, and that gave her the will to keep on existing even through her darkest grief. Photojournalist Mitch Simmons knows his return from the dead is going to be a shock to his wife, so he arranges for his best friend to ease the transition when he faces her for the first time. He still has a lot of recovery to go through and isn’t anywhere near the man she was in the midst of walking away from before his accident happened. He hopes that maybe the thrill of him actually being alive will convince her to give their love another shot … and that’s even before he hears that they have a son he never even knew was on the way!

Finally, an HEA for Zoe! His One and Only Bride is a second chance romance for two characters who have been apart for two years--in fact, she thought he was dead--and were heading quickly toward another type of separation for several years before that. For much of the novel, they're still apart--Zoe's moved back in with her mom, and Mitch is staying with a friend--and for a lot of the time, it doesn't seem as if an HEA is at all guaranteed. There is a lot of trust to rebuild between the two, and quite a few past hurts to get over. If you're looking for a book with a lot of shared, romantic moments, this isn't that book. But if you're looking for a realistic portrayal of what it could take to get a marriage back on track and create a family? This could just hit the spot. Though it was frustrating at times to read about the walls these two put up between themselves, both before and during the novel, it did serve to make their ending that much sweeter. A heartwarming side romance between secondary characters and Zoe and Mitch's absolutely adorable one-year-old son really added to the experience. Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
