As always, Holley Gerth speaks to my heart and soothes my mind with her Biblical words of comfort. This book has 52 encouraging devotionals that you could either do once a week, to last out the year, or do one a day (which I am doing) to help you remember who you are in God. Each day starts with a Scripture and then the devotional is written from Holley's heart to yours. She encourages, uplifts, and makes you feel as though you are talking to your best friend over coffee. Finally, there is a promise of who God is for us in our lives. Holley has experienced the same type of heart-aches that all of us do and she shares how God has given her strength during the hard times. I love that she reminds us that it's okay not to be okay all the time but that God is with us through it all. I highly recommend this devotional, as I have all of Holley's books. She never disappoints and she always keeps things true to the Word of God. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. *This book was provided to me by Revell. I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.

Hope your heart needs is the first book I've read from Holley Gerth, but let me tell you... I will be on the hunt to read her others! She is a beautiful storyteller, and one who has such a beautiful heart for the Lord! I mean, how could she write such an amazing, beautiful book like this without having one!!?? There are 52 devotions which can be read however you would like... I found myself reading more than one and at a time because I just couldn't stop but then the next time I would just force myself to read just one a truly just savor and think on the bible verse and story she had written. At times Gods loves just overwhelms you as does HIS goodness !! It is a great way to start your day or if you choose to read a story each week, then by all means, start your week out reading this!! Heart of a Bookworm gives Hope Your Heart Needs a 5 ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥'s Thank you Revell for providing this book free in exchange for my honest review!!!

Wow! In 52 ways Holley Gerth has written a devotional to cover many topics that face us today. Honestly, this book has earned a home on my bookshelf for a long time coming. The messages are timely, and hit the target. This inspirational book could be read cover to cover. It can be studied as a day by day devotional. However, when I got this book in my hands, I looked up a topic you that called me and from there, the rest has been a pleasant journey. Holley's style of writing and the encouragement she gives. Her down to earth style makes her feel like you have just sat down with a friend to discuss God's encouraging words. The format of this book is just right for someone who wants to pack inspiration into their tote to be pulled out for quiet moments in the day. It is a treasure trove of God's word and how they apply to our modern day lives. I was given my copy as a gift with an option to write a review or not, from Revell. I had to share my thoughts as this book is too good to keep to myself.

Chalk-full of names of Christ, this book is coated with hope and encouragement for those who struggle with the many difficulties we all experience in life. Anyone could pick this book up because we all need love and uplifting at some point (or points) in our life. My favorite part of this book was the Introduction. Holley Gerth specifically mentions that this book is a "come as you are" book. It is for all. You don't need to be already lodged in your faith, a so-called perfect life, the worst grades, or the least popular in church. This is for all. This very phrase created so much peach in my heart and allowed me to learn and feel that I could have hope in both Him and myself through this devotional and life journey. Gerth writes in such a way that Christ is now both tangible and relatable for me. Sometimes we often think of Him as far away or another being entirely. But no, He's right here with us and has so much love for us that it's sometimes overwhelming to wrap your head around. Her stories of her life as well as biblical examples of Christ's are very helpful in realizing hope in your life as you flip through this book. She also mentions verses from many translations of the bible as well, creating unity throughout Christianity. Closing each chapter with a prayer, Gerth brings together everything important and true that was written so that the reader may focus on those words the rest of the week. Great read!

Hope. Whether we are going through hard times or are just going through everyday ho hum days, most of us could use an extra dash of hope each day. Holley Gerth's new devotional, Hope Your Heart Needs, offers an encouraging hopeful reading for 52 days. Each reading in Hope Your Heart Needs starts with a Bible verse for the day. Then Holley writes a short devotional reading in which she reflects on the Scripture and shares stories from her heart. At the end of each reading, there is a brief prayer to lift up to God. Hope Your Heart Needs is a small book but it is large on sharing hope, encouragement and God's love to the reader in each reading. I like the small size because it is easy to stick in your purse or bag and carry along for a quick read whenever you need it. Gerth is co-founder of (in)courage and a partner with Dayspring. She is also a licensed counselor and a life coach, among other things. All of that adds up to an author who knows how to lift up readers and encourage them. I often turn to Gerth's books when I am feeling down and alone. She always helps me feel better about things and reminds me that God cares about me. I would encourage everyone to read this book. It would also make a nice gift book for a friend needing some encouragement. I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

Fall is always the time I consider new devotionals for the following year and HOPE YOUR HEART NEEDS promises to be an uplifting devotional that will bring readers closer to God. Starting with the premise that all of us are looking for "someone who will care for us, fight on our behalf, and extend grace to us always" Gerth focuses on the truth that only God can be that certain one. Each of the 52 devotions that follow explore a different aspect of God, with the hope that the reader will take away a stronger understanding of His place in our lives. Devotion #1 reminds us that God was present at each of our births, including the 353,000 births that will happen today. So will he be present at the 151,600 deaths which will occur. And for the 7.4 billion of us who will walk through this day, much like we do other days, God will be there for us also. We are not alone and God, the creator, was here before us, he is here each day of our lives, and he will be here after us. He is the everything of our world and beyond. Each devotion is short but powerful, and like many other devotionals begins with a scripture reference and ends with a prayer. Having just 52 lessons, this is not a book that will serve the entire year, unless you plan to do one devotion per week. Perhaps if you picked one particular day to read each week (Saturday or Sunday), then this would work for you. Or you could read the book more quickly, either each day or several days a week. I think that once you begin delving into the ways that Holley sees God caring for us, you will want to read more often than once a week.I received a copy of this hopeful title from the publisher. “Hope Your Heart Needs” by Holley Gerth “52 Encouraging Reminders Of How God Cares For You” If you are familiar with the author Holley Gerth you know how encouraging her words can be and how easy it is to read and relate to her books. If you aren’t familiar with her, you will soon be, as you begin to read this book. It will read like a close friend is speaking with you, a friend who knows how you are feeling and wants to share hope and encouragement with you. This book may be small in size (6″ by 4″) but it is packed with hope, help and encouragement for every life situation you may be facing. It is not a book that you read just once and put away. It is a book that you want to read daily, over and over, one that you will want to keep nearby to pick up and read whenever the need arises. My favorite thing about this book is that each of it’s 52 Chapters is titled with one of God’s Names based on His attributes or character. If you have ever studied God’s Names you know there is one for every circumstance you might encounter. Are you having a really sad, sorrowful day filled with heartache and tears? Read Chapter 19 titled “Tear Catcher” and you will find instant comfort, at least I did. Or, maybe you are stressed out and frustrated, you just need a break, someone to step in and give you some strength and support, someone who Chapter 21 says is our Sustainer. “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalm 54:4 tells us. And, there are many more Chapters that you will easily find yourself relating to such as Helper, Guide, Friend, Comforter, Provider, One-Who-Sees, Rescuer, Healer, Caretaker, Forgiver, Purpose-Giver, and many more. I really recommend this book as a great daily resource to keep on hand. I received this book free from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to give a favorable review, but have chosen to do so. All thoughts are my own. –Leona J. Atkinson

Such a wonderful little devotional book! [I love the size that can easily fit in my bag to take along with me on my travels!] I love reading a little snippet of who God is and how He cares for us each day – I may or may not have read it through in just a couple of days – and I plan to go back through it and use it as inspiration for Bible Journaling pages throughout this next year. Such a timely reminder that God loves us and has great plans for us!

** “When we know (who God is), we begin to live from a different perspective. We understand we are small and yet hugely significant. We see we have an important place in God’s story, but we are not the author. We realize hard times will come, but there is One for whom nothing is impossible.” ** Holley Gerth offers an uplifting look at who God is and how much He loves us in “Hope Your Heart Needs.” With 52 very short chapters, each beginning with a verse and ending with a prayer, Gerth reveals 52 different names and characteristics of God, all reminding us of God’s attributes and His deep love for us. Again and again she reminds us that we are not alone and that we are God’s masterpiece. But she also easily manages to portray God as not just this lofty, unreachable deity, but as a very real god who became like man. She reminds us that Jesus hurt and ached and smiled and laughed while on Earth, facing the same struggles that we each face. Gerth is a beautifully descriptive writer (“He spoke the world into being as the light-bringer, star-scatterer, and breather of life into the first man’s lungs.”) But she is also a very conversational writer, like she’s talking to you over a nice cup of tea. I also enjoy how relatable she is, often being very real and honest about her own flaws and struggles. Ultimately, this book shows us that we can always go to God. He will never turn away from us. “Hope Your Heart Needs” could be used as a daily devotional, reading one characteristic per day, or read straight through as a giant lump of love and encouragement. Five stars out of five. Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, provided this complimentary copy for my honest, unbiased review.

I have read Holley Gerth's blog for years now. The words of encouragement flow in those pages. I also love her Coffee For Your Heart link-up! So when the possibility came to review her new devotional, Hope Your Heart Needs? I didn't need to think long about whether I wanted to read the book. Because, yes. That was an easy decision to make. And honestly, friends? This book is so beautiful, wonderful, and encouraging. It holds 52 devotions, yet I read those faster for book reviewing purposes. Honestly, though, I could have read all the 52 devotions on one go because it was such a encouraging read full of hope. These pages are full of honest moments and realizations that come with daily life. But they are also full of hope and point the reader to the Gospel and our wonderful God. Holley Gerth considers those moments our heart needs hopes -- and then she delivers hope, beautifully. And always with God in mind. Holley Gerth is a wonderful writer who points her reader to God, in everything. At the same time, it is easy for the reader to relate to what Holley Gerth is writing because of the way that she writes. All in all, her book is wonderfully full of hope and relatable moments. These devotions are also ones I will love to read in the mornings, for that hope I know my heart needs. I haven't read any books by Holley Gerth before, though I'm a fan of her blog. But I so want to read more of her books now.

Hope. It’s been defined as “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best” (according to dictionary.com). As I continue to scroll down through the definitions, I also discover this definition, “a person or thing in which expectations are centered” (from the same source). In her latest book, “hope your heart needs“, author Holley Gerth brings this reminder from her own search for hope: “And suddenly I came to a turning point: I realized what my heart needed wasn’t a simple answer to a problem. No, I was looking for, longing for, a Person.” (from page 10) This book delivers 52 reminders which will encourage and infuse your heart with hope. On these pages, you will find yourself hopeful in the One who never changes and is ever faithful. The chapters are short making this perfect to grab in the moments when strength is needed. It can be used as a devotional, maybe one reading a week as there are 52 chapters. Each chapter focuses on a verse and one truth about God, including a thought from the author, and a closing prayer. This book is filled with encouragement and hope as that is the style of Holley Gerth – she’s an encourager. But more so, the book is filled with encouragement and hope as it brings us to remember the character of our God. *** I received a copy of this book from Revell Books for review purposes.
