How did a nice girl like Rachel Kline end up in a jail cell in Vegas? Don't even ask. She came to Sin City to find her missing friend and accidentally got swept up in a police raid. Even worse, she's being bailed out by the last man she wants to see right now: the irresistibly sexy, infuriatingly cocky Alpha op who rescued her a year ago. What are the odds?

Logan Callahan is six-and-a-half feet of solid muscle and Texas charm, a hard-fighting ex-Marine with a soft spot for Rachel. He's more than obliged to hang up his cowboy hat and help her out. But when someone takes a shot at her, he knows there's a good chance what happens in Vegas won't stay there. With targets on their backs and killers on their tails, it's one high-risk game they're playing. And it's not just their hearts that are on the line . . .

About the Author

April blames her incurable chocolate addiction on growing up in rural Pennsylvania, way too close to America's chocolate capital, Hershey. She now lives in Virginia with her college sweetheart husband, two young children, and a cat who thinks she's a human-dog hybrid. On those rare occasions she's not donning the cape of her children's personal chauffer, April's either planning, plotting, or writing about her next alpha hero and the woman he never knew he needed, but now can't live without.

This was a super-short novella that moved very quickly. I had never read this author before but I thought it was a good introduction for things to come! Even though it was short, I liked both characters. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything by reading a book that was further in a series. I look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

I received this novella free through Netgalley. This is a quick read for when you want a couple hour distraction. This was a fun story. I usually don't jump into the middle of a series, but never really felt like I was lost. They explained enough of the backstory so I was able to catch up. The banter between Logan and Rachel is cute and they don't waste time trying to deny their feelings for each other.

This is my first book from the series so I was not in sync with all the previous characters or the thing happening before this book. But all in all, it was a quick intense read full of suspense and action. I liked both Rachel and logan they were well developed and likable. The whole story is greatly written and although ends pretty quickly it is interesting and ends with satisfying HEA for Rachel and Logan. Good story for raining afternoon. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

A short novella that would be great for those that love and adore this series. I felt it could be read as a standalone, but you would benefit more from having read the other books in the series. Unfortunately, I have not so I didn't really feel connected to these characters. However, I did enjoy it enough that I will begin reading this series soon!

## Great read, but too short to award 5 stars. Apprx. 93 pages. It IS sweet however. Wow, Logan fell fast. He was a wild ladies' man in the previous installments, always quipping and joking. Darlin' this and darlin' that. He came clean pretty quickly to Rachel, confessing that he hides behind the joking and flirting. That was refreshing. Although, the fact that he and Rachel had already slept together by the time this book began bugged me a little. I would've liked to have been in on that instead of it already over. Rachel was briefly in book one. She was talked about a lot because in that book they were searching for her, but there wasn't much interaction between Logan and Rachel. I guess because the book was so short there was no real build up to their relationship. The rest was great though. Humor, romance, and plenty of action. I would definitely recommend this series, but I do hope the next book is full length.

hot target, an alpha security novella, has the ever-charming logan callahan finally hooking up with survivor rachel kline. rachel has mostly recovered from her time held hostage by a honduran drug lord. but when her fellow survivor and friend carly goes missing in vegas after leaving a mysterious message, rachel will risk everything to make sure her friend is safe. waking up alone after an intense night only to discover that the woman he shared it with had run off to vegas is the kind of thing that has easy-going logan gritting his teeth. but when he realizes the danger she is in, he knows that he will do anything and everything to keep her safe. even if that means promising to marry her in an elvis chapel. they might really only be in there to hide out and grab a disguise, but the promise is something he intends to keep. once he and rachel have it out and acknowledge that the chemistry between them is something real. for a novella, the emotional ground that is covered is pretty significant. and ultimately, this makes for a very satisfying story. **hot target will publish on april 10, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

I was running low on books to read and when I saw this novella up for grabs on NetGalley I thought I would give it a go. This novella is part of a longer series and while it can easily be read as a stand alone (as I did), there are events which (presumably) happen in previous books which give the two main characters a back story together. Logan Callahan is a former Marine sniper and a member of Alpha Security. He has had a one-night stand with Rachel Kline, a school-teacher he helped to rescue 18 months previously after she was kidnapped and force fed drugs in Honduras. 24 hours later he is bailing Rachel out of a Las Vegas jail after she was arrested in a sweep of a local brothel and drug den. This is a novella in the vein of Katie Reus. although Logan isn't quite as Alphahole and the sex is on the tame side (in comparison). It's a super short fun read but without having read the previous novels I felt no real connection to either Logan or Rachel. I did however like that the hero didn't have to be all guns blazing and macho 24/7 and accepted wiser counsel - that was a nice change of pace for this type of novel. Overall, I liked it but I didn't love it. It was a good entry to see what April Hunt's writing and plotting were like to see if I might like the rest of the series but it was too short for me to develop any engagement with the main protagonists. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review. HOT TARGET BY APRIL HUNT is a fast paced rollercoaster from beginning to end. For a novella, the characters were well-rounded and the suspense was awesome. As you start reading this book you are made aware of previous events involving the characters but that does not affect the plot. The main characters, Rachel and Logan, are people who can dig deep inside themselves to find strength to endure the hard edges of life. And yet, they are also vulnerable and allow that vulnerability to add to their strength of character. These character traits are hard to get across in a short story but April Hunt achieves this masterfully. This book is a suspenseful romance full of drama and has the HEA ending.

This book was fast and furious yet not lacking in detail or excitement making it completely entertaining. It's the fourth book in a series but you can read standalone although I do think you will appreciate it more if you have read the prior books. Although this is a novella it has plenty of action, suspense and romance. Everything between Rachel and Logan moves along at a nice pace rather than having the back and forth we get in other stories. There is great banter and chemistry between these two. I definitely recommend this one.

Hot Target was a quick, fast paced read with lots of action in the bright lights of Vegas. The story immediately jumps into things and stays at the edge of your seat the whole way through with a small slow down in the center for Logan and Rachel to connect emotionally. Rachel has overcome so much up to this point and Logan has supported her through all of it. Logan’s past as a military sniper has changed how he sees himself and how others see him and this has greatly affected how close he gets to others. In this sense, they worked really well together because they understand what it means to struggle and remain disconnected. While the plot was fun and adventurous, I did feel like the characterization depended too much on having read the previous books. Rachel was first introduced in Heated Pursuit when she’s rescued from Fuentes, but it’s been so long since I’ve read that one that I struggled to really understand her. I had no problem following the plot but there wasn’t enough backstory to grab onto and connect with. Everything felt very surface level, especially the development of the romance between Logan and Rachel. This was the only thing that stood out negatively and I wanted more from it.

Loved this book! I just recently discovered this author and am I glad I did. This is the latest addition to the Alpha series and has Logan rushing to aid Rachel. We first met both characters in the first novel and I love how the author put them together in this book. Rachel has struggled to overcome her issues when she rushes to the aid of her friend. Unfortunately, her friend wasn't there and, before long, Rachel is literally running for her life - with no idea why. This is a a fast paced story that fans of the genre will love. The author made me fall in love with the characters and feel invested in their story. While this is a novella, the story was meaty and felt like a full book. This is a stand alone story, however, you'll enjoy it so much more if you've read the prior books. I've added the author to my must read authors' list. If you're a fan of the genre, you probably should too.

This novella is part of Ms Hunt’s series titled Alpha Security. Though it was entertaining and well developed , I felt I missed a lot due to the fact that I had not read the previous stories on which this one is based. Still , I was engaged in Logan Callahan’s and Rachel Kline’s story and found both to be likable and complex characters. The storyline moved quickly from Philadelphia, to Vegas in an attempt to help Carly, a dear friend of Rachel’s . They have shared a heartbreaking experience. The secondary characters, mainly Charlie, were also interesting , albeit the fact that a new reader like me , would be at a lost since everyone has a history that we didn’t know about . As a well written novella, I give it a 4 star, but personally I would rate it as a 3.5. I would highly recommend new readers to start with book 1 prior to reading this one. I sure wish I had or that it would have been suggested by the author and/or publisher. I was gifted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
