Much has been written for the professional interviewer, but very little, in-depth material, to help the individual being interviewed.
Moreover it is rare to be able to receive formal training on how to undergo an interview. Interview training programs for job seekers are sometimes available through company sponsored out-placement programs. For most job seekers however, that is not the case.
The professional interviewer, on the other hand, has most likely been trained in how to conduct an effective interview. In fact, I wrote a book on that subject “The Employer's Guide To Interviewing Strategy and Tactics for Picking a Winner”, which was specifically designed and written with that in mind.
In the past, during the 70's few human resource people were trained in interviewing. At that time I was the Human Resource Director for Xerox Learning Systems, the preeminent professional training company in the world. The only way to learn how to interview was basically to learn by trial and error. As I was tasked with recruiting top notch people for XLS, and XLS being the premier professional training company, I thought it would be a good program to develop and market to professionals. That was the genesis of a professional interview training program for recruiters.
