A celebrated illustrator reinvents a familiar lullaby with this story of a baby who will not stop crying and a big sister who tries to help. Hush, little baby, don’t say a word, Papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird. . . . A baby who howls all night, parents at their wits’ end, a peddler whose wagon is filled with toys and animals, and a big sister who accidentally-on-purpose starts it allthese are the players in this delightful and original interpretation of a timeless folk tune. Marla Frazee’s story-in-pictures is a perfect lullaby for all restless babies and their exhausted, loving families.

My 5yo daughter says this is a really good book because it just is. She has asked to to share that, "she likes the 2nd to last page best."
My 19 month old picked out this book at the library and it has become a favorite. The pictures are wonderful and she enjoys pointing out & naming the mommy, daddy, sister - whom she calls 'who, who' after her own big sister, baby, and papa 'for the peddler'. She also makes animal sounds as she points out the animals. It would make a great gift for a baby/toddler!
