About the Author

OLE RISOM (1920-2000) was one of the most influential publishers of mass-market books for children. He was vice president and art director of Golden Books at Western Publishing Company from 1952-1972, and then vice president and associate publisher of the juvenile division of Random House from 1972-1990. He worked closely with his good friend Richard Scarry over the years at both houses. He also worked with Dr. Seuss, Jim Henson, Stan and Jan Berenstain, Leo Lionni, Laurent de Brunhoff, Charles M. Schulz, and Marc Brown.

RICHARD SCARRY (1919-1994) is one of the world’s best-loved children’s book authors ever! No other illustrator has shown such a lively interest in the words and concepts of early childhood. After a stint in the army, Scarry showed his portfolio to one of the original editors at Golden Books in 1948. There he found the perfect home for his children’s books. In the extraordinary career that followed, Scarry illustrated well over 100 books, many of which have never been out of print.

I visited my local B & N bookstore one day just before Easter and saw this book on the shelf. The endearing cover illustration was enough for me to pick it up and peruse its contents. After reading the second page of this story, I closed the book. This simple tale and it's beautiful illustrations won me over instantly and I bought it. It is rare to find a children's book that is this good! My two toddlers and I read this story every night and it never gets old.

A simple board book, but has beautiful illustrations and such a sweet story. Great to give as a baby gift.

This book is perfect for when you're trying to introduce your baby to the idea of the joy of reading. This book does not have a lot of words, yet the pictures are detailed enough that my five year-old will keep coming back to it. I recommend this book for the 6 months-2 year age, however. This book is an introduction to the seasons with detailed pictures of flora and fauna that can be found. Great for discussions! This book has been a family favorite since my brother and I were babies! It's so great to be able to share it with my children!

I bought this book on behalf of my son. His name is Nicholas and so is the bunny and his grandma loves bunnies and so does he. We got this for her birthday and both throughly enjoy it. He loves all the bright colors. It's a great book for little children. Made very well. I would Highly recomend it.

I have found that the children books done by Richard Scarry are well loved by children. I have them in english and german and they are all loved.

The beauty of this book rests in its illustrations of the most basic and simple pleasures in life. Looking up at the sky, dreaming, and enjoying nature are things that young and old alike can relate to. It brings parents back to a simpler time in their lives and let's children discover the beauty that nature holds for those who are open to the wonder of it. I love reading this book to my daughter...Though I am a single father right now, I know that this will be a book I can relate with to any other parent or person who likes nature. I feel fortunate to have discovered such a beautiful, simple work to share with my daughter, helping her to remember that wonder and joy are found in all living things.

Bought this book when my youngest was a toddler. She loved it so much we read it over and over and over to the point that my other children had it memorized. And it's been a treasure to give each of them one for their own children. My grandchildren love it as well.

I bought this for my little girl when she was a baby but I think it was too complex for her back then. Now that she is 14 mo old, she LOVES this book. We look for the bunny on each page and she points to all the animals. She also likes pointing to the snow, rain, trees, and flowers. I can vary the story each time too. Never gets boring. A great book with wonderful illustrations. Would be a perfect gift for a 1-2 yr old.

i am 28, and this is the first book i thought i could read because i had memorized all the lines. as a child, i was captivated by the illustrations and the simple story. i just googled 'my name is nicholas. i live in a hollow tree' to see if i could locate this treasured tale again and get it for my niece :)

My daughter is 35 and I still know all the words to this book. I buy it for every baby shower I go to. I bought it for my grandson and as we were reading it one night, he kissed Nicholas good nite in his hollow tree just like his mom used to do without me even telling him. A real timeless book for toddlers.

My three year old adores Nicholas and can 'read' me the entire book. She loves all the pictures and we can count the animals, name the flowers, etc. What a great book!

This book is a feast for the eyes and the language is perfect for the preschooler. The rabbit tells what he likes best of the seasons and the seasons come alive in the illustrations. Among our favorite books!

I had this book as a child and remember the pictures vividly! I have been looking for this book for years without success because I didn't remember the title or author. Thank goodness B&N has a feature to locate children's books by animal (I have searched here before but never saw this feature before)!! This was definately one of my favorites as a small child and I can't wait to get it and read it to my kids.

One of my son's (14 months) current favorites. There are simple words and great pictures, and the concepts are easy to convey as they get a bit older. He likes to read it again and again.

I AM A BUNNY has been an important childhood book since the first one bought in 1970. It is fun to read to young children the illustrations are beautiful and when the kids are able to read, they like to read it themselves. I always buy a copy for new babies and make a handmade stuffed bunny to go with it.

I am 45 yrs old. My Mother would read this book to me as a child, every night at my insistance. When my kids were born, I pulled out my old beat up "I am a bunny", and would read it to them often. I loved the book as a child, I loved reading the book to my children as an adult. I'm so glad it's still in print!
