I Prayed for You (picture book)

This book is absolutely adorable!! Both the pictures and the message throughout the pages. The book is all about surrounding your little one(s) in prayer, and surrounding them with those prayers before they head for dreamland. Reminding your children that you have been praying for them before they were even in this world, and you will continue to pray for them every day of their lives. Kids will find comfort in the prayers of their parents, and this book is a great way to explain those important prayers to your little ones.

When I had the chance to read and review I Prayed for You, I really wanted to get the book to save for that day when my sister says that she is expecting. This book is written from a mother bear's perspective, and it shares about how she prayed for her little one, and it includes the prayers that she prayed. The illustrations: The pictures throughout this book are really cute and I like them. Who This Book is For: This is a good gift for any expectant or new mom. What I liked: The pictures are really sweet. The overall idea of the book is nice. The book is a cute one and one that mothers will appreciate. What I didn’t like: This book isn't really for babies as much as it is for mothers. It doesn't really read well when read aloud. It doesn't flow like I want it to. My conclusion: Overall, I think this could be a special gift for my sister one day. I give I Prayed for You 4 out of 5 stars. I received this book free to review from BookLook. “In everything we do, in work and in play, help us honor You each and every day,” the prayer rhymes in I Prayed for You by Jean Fischer. ~ What ~ At twenty pages, this oversized hardbound targets children ages two to six years old who like bear stories about a mother’s prayers for her cub. With no scary scenes, the colorful illustrations show a mama bear and her baby from before he is born to tucking him in bed at night and how she prays for him. One verse from the Holy Bible in the New Living Translation is referenced at the beginning. With a sentence or two at the top of each opened pages, the story is about a mother bear and her cub and what they are doing the first few years of the child’s life. The bottom has the mom’s rhyming prayers to God highlighted in white boxes. In addition to praying to God about him before the cub is born, she also snuggles with him and watches him learn to walk, play with blocks, do artwork, prays, plays, dresses himself, goes to school and sleeps. ~ Why ~ This is an adorable book about gently explaining to a young one how much a mother loves him or her by praying for him often. I love the pages depicting the bear learning what is right or wrong and being hugged when he gets hurt. The prayers are thoughtful; the pictures are fanciful but expressive. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not approve of this book as it focuses on praying to God. Beginner readers may have trouble with the two- and three-syllable words. ~ Wish ~ While the book concentrates on a mother and her child, it never mentions a father. I hope the author will be doing a coinciding book that includes the other parent. ~ Want ~ If you want to stress how prayer should be an integral part in a child’s life through the viewpoint of a mother, you will enjoy reading this book to young ones. From the moment I saw the positive pregnancy test (and even before) I have prayed for my children. I pray for their growth and their health. I pray for them to know the Lord and walk closely with Him. I pray for them to make good decisions and to love other well. I pray for wisdom, grace, and patience to be the best mom I can be for them. I want to be a mom who always covers my children in prayer, which is why I was excited to check out this new book board with that same message. I Prayed for You by author Jean Fischer is a sweet soft cover board book filled with the prayers of a mother for her child. The lovely illustrations feature Mama Bear and Baby Bear, and each page spread highlights a simple scenario and the way Mama Bear prays for her little one. The text is simple, and the prayers are short and relatable. One of the things I appreciated about the book was how it included hard or sad moments too, like when the Baby Bear disobeyed or got hurt. The book is a sweet message and reminder to preschoolers (and moms alike) of how they are loved and prayed over in their lives. I loved this book. Hard pages perfect for little hands, this delightful little book tells the story of a Mama bear and how much her little cub was wanted. She shares about how she felt the first time her little cub was held, took first steps, prayed, changed clothes, got in trouble, and went to school. What I really loved about this book is that it works perfectly for biological and adopted children. As an adoptive mom, this is something I so greatly appreciate. In addition, while the little cub is in blue, there is no reference to the cub being a boy or girl -- allowing the book to work for either gender. This book would also work for single moms as well as it is simply the story of a mother's love with no mention of a Papa bear. I found this book incredibly sweet and one I cannot wait to read to my four little cubs! From before these sweet babies are born, and for every part of their futures, Mama covers them in prayer. Every spread shares a different prayer, and mamas everywhere will resonate with this eternally important message. A fantastic gift for a new mom -- adopted or biological!
