If you were a synonym, you would mean the same thing, or almost the same thing, as another word. You could be BIG, HUGE, or GIGANTIC. What else could you be if you were a synonym?

Michael Dahl is the prolific author of the bestselling Goodnight, Baseball picture book and more than 200 other books for children and young adults. If You were a Synonym is an excellent picture book that describes and gives examples of synonyms. The book shows that a synonym can be an adjective, a verb, or a noun. The book shows sentences with the synonyms in bright, bold colors so that they are easy for a child to pick out. It also tells students what a thesaurus is and how a they can use it to find synonyms and antonyms. At the end of the book there is also a page that says "Fun with Synonyms" that describes an activity for students to use synonyms. The last page of the book contains a glossary, websites and more books about synonyms. This book is very informational and well suited for teaching young readers about synonyms.
