Following Adrenaline, The Last Minute, and Downfall, Jeff Abbott returns with the next riveting novel in the award-winning New York Times bestselling Sam Capra series.

Sam Capra's friend Steve has been murdered, shot dead in the rain outside of his Miami bar. The only lead: a mysterious, beautiful stranger Steve tried to protect. To avenge his friend, Sam goes undercover into the Varelas, one of Miami's most prominent and dangerous families.

Now on the inside, playing a part where one wrong move means death, Sam faces a powerful, unstable tycoon intent on dividing his business empire between his three very different children, who each may hold murderous secrets of their own.

Sam is relentlessly drawn into this family's intense drama, amplifying painful echoes of his own shattered relationships as a son, brother, father, and husband. And just when he thinks he understands why the family is self-destructing, he discovers a lethal secret so shocking that the Varelas cannot let him walk away alive . . .

I can't imagine giving this book anything less than 5 stars.  Jeff Abbott is a master storyteller.  If you haven't read any of the Sam Capra series, please start with Adrenaline and follow Sam's story from the beginning.  You will not be disappointed.

A bit too scary for me but.........I couldn’t put it down. Some parts are so frightening real that I had to walk away for a few days to force my mind back to reality.

Started out with interesting plot, murdered friend, strange beautiful woman, the trail that could lead to solving the mystery ......... ends up with the most ridiculous story of this private prison ran by mysterious "clients" and murder of almost all characters involved in the story. Waste of time.

The story begins with some promise but quickly gets bogged down and becomes drudgery, Want to read a 400 page book with a 100 page story, this is it A real disappointing waste of time!!!!! One star is overated!

As usual, I liked the character Sam Capra and his angst as to what he does in his life vs what he supposingly would rather be (a family man). But this 4th Capra novel seemed to drag on a bit thru his interaction with the dysfunctional Varelas family. I thought the character development of the family and friends of family was done well but the plot twists went back and forth too many times. At the very end, it was revealed what the family's "underside" was all about and it was totally different than I imagined. The plot and setting made a complete change (was actually a welcome change!) and then finished up so quickly it screamed "book needs to end now" to me. I'll still be looking for the 5th installment of the Sam Capra line as there was an interesting teaser for the readers at the very end.

I'm a huge fan of Jeff Abbott, I accidentally ran across one of his books about a year and a half ago, and it was his first Sam Capra series. I was totally captured in Sam's life right from the first paragraph. Jeff Abbott tells the story of Sam Capra as if he's living it himself. Full of suspense, intrigue, and life! You can't help but get caught up in the story and beg for more. I am a fan forever!!

Jeff Abbot's name on the book is what gets me to purchase it. He crafts good stories consistently. This is no exception. You'll enjoy it. As a side note, his parkour descriptions are intriguing.

Quite a few twists and turns with a nice flow and unexpected consequences. I did have a little problem believing the main character at such a young age had such vast experiences and expertise...
