Jared Nolan is an accomplished, intelligent FBI agent, who has one serial killer under his belt. However, haunted by the loss of men under his command during his Army career, he is also a drunk, with one foot out the proverbial door. And with the line to see him out to the street growing longer, Jared is given one last opportunity to salvage his job and his life. A possible serial killer is preying on young girls in Jared's hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. The agent is dispatched to Little Rock and paired with Samantha Eubanks-a hard-ass female detective, who has a tragic past of her own.
Together, the two investigators move quickly to gain ground on the evil that they are up against, as well as look to put together the pieces of one another's broken spirits. But just as Jared and Samantha think they are about to get their man, the place they hoped would provide the answers only offers more questions. Jared and Samantha's prime suspect turns up dead-tortured at the hands of their killer, but taken out by an unknown assassin. Things take a turn into the fast lane, when some old faces from Jared's Army life show on the scene. Jared and Samantha discover that the person they are searching for is wrapped up in something darker than they could have ever imagined.
In the end, Jared and Samantha will catch their killer. And in doing so, they will drag a century-old conspiracy-a conspiracy to overthrow the United States-into the light for the first time.
