Chapter One

Isabella walks into the kitchen where her mother is making a chocolate cake.

"I want to lick the beaters," says Isabella.

"When we want something what do we say?" asks mommy.

"I don't know," replies Isabella. "We say PLEASE. That is using good manners," says mommy.

"Can I PLEASE lick the beaters?" asks Isabella. "Yes, you may," responds mommy.

Isabella licks the chocolate off the beaters until it's all gone, she sets them on the counter, jumps off her stool and goes to find daddy.

Daddy is in the garage working on a project. "Hi daddy, what are you doing?" asks Isabella.

"I'm fixing the chain on your bike. It's all done. Here you go," responds daddy.

Isabella jumps on her bike. "See you later, I'm going for a bike ride," says Isabella.

"Wait a minute. I just fixed the chain on your bike, what do you say?" asks daddy.

"I don't know," replies Isabella.

"We say THANK YOU when someone does something for you or gives something to you. That is using good manners," says daddy.

"THANK YOU for fixing the chain on my bike daddy," says Isabella.

Isabella leaves the garage and rides down the street to her friend Sage's house.

Sage and Isabella are best friends and Isabella can't wait to see her. Isabella is riding very fast so she can get there in a hurry.

Sage and her mother are planting flowers in their garden. Isabella is going so fast that she rides her bike right into their flower garden.

"Oh my! You have run over my flowers," says Sage's mother.

Isabella and Sage look at the crumpled flowers in the garden with a surprised look.

"Do you girls know what to say when you do something that hurts another person, even if it is an accident?" asks Sage's mother. "We don't know," says Sage and Isabella.

"We say I'M SORRY because it helps fix the hurt, whether it was on purpose or an accident. That is using good manners," replies Sage's mother.

"I'M SORRY I ran over your flowers," says Isabella.

"THANK YOU," says Sage's mother.
