When FBI Agent Higgins accepts the assignment to escort a dying young woman to her high school prom, he fully intends to be home by midnight. Tate is no Romeo. Neither is he tall, dark, or debonair. He’s the workhorse on the psychic Deuces Wild Team, not a mind reader, and this is nothing but a one-night job for the USMC scout sniper. Until he sees the young woman dancing up high on a water tower. What a sight…
The prom is a fake and the water tower is the only refuge where her mother can’t reach Winslow. Stricken with a rare cancer, her life is nearly over. There will be no handsome lover in her future. No wedding. No babies. Her world has been reduced to the countdown of days that she accepted years ago. Until an unexpected stranger appears out of nowhere and asks her to—dance.

I loved Winslow and Taters story.
Couldn't put this down! When Tate Higgins, FBI agent and former USMC sniper, is asked to fulfill a dying young woman's dream by escorting her to the prom, he is sullen and uncomfortable to say the least. He doesn't dance, he doesn't date and he sure as hell hates the monkey suit he has on. But when he meets the frail Winslow Parrish, his protective instincts fire on all cylinders. His life - and hers - will forever be changed by the dark secret that emerges and the ensuing battle to save Winslow's life.
WARNING-FULL DISCLOSURE--This book will break your heart, mend it, fill it with joy-hate-loyalty and you won't be able to put it down! Winslow has missed living a normal life. She's been stricken with cancer and is at the end of that painful journey. Her mom has planned a fake prom to give her some of what she has missed. Tate, USMC turned FBI special Physic Team member (although he doesn't know why cause he doesn't have any of those skills--well, he doesn't!)He's not the womanizer on the team. He's not good looking date material. The only reason he could have been chosen to help fill the dream of the girl is he is single and mission free so available. One and done! He can do this. Escaping the date she didn't want, Tate finds the missing girl atop a water tower. Something about her draws him as none other. So it begins. A dying girl who's not so much a girl as a woman, loving mom(?), a team he doesn't fit in with, and all that is about to change his life and hers. Tate has so much to work through, Winslow has so much life to learn in so little time, love, living, team support, and unknown skills. Just when you think it is done, there is always "The Rest of the Story" with this author. And is it an ending to remember. There is the expected mystery/action from Ms. Winter's books, however, this is such a unique story. The characters show both strength and what they consider their weaknesses. I wouldn't change a thing, other than it had to end. I strongly recommend this book to every reader because there is something for everyone. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
