About the Author

Dilaram Shabab is known as the ‘Green Man of the Tirthan Valley’ because of his endless endeavours towards protecting its ecology. A former member of the Legislative Assembly (1967-77), he continuously fought for sustainable development, conservation, and restoration. He even fought the forest mafia and put his efforts into earning the Great Himalayan National Park its current status. He is the man behind saving the Tirthan Stream, rich in fresh water trout, from its imminent destruction by fighting against the proposal of constructing nine Micro Hydro Projects. In July 2018, he passed away at the age of 94 in his native village, Gushaini.
