About the Author

Joyce T. Strand, much like her fictional character, Jillian Hillcrest, served as head of corporate communications at several biotech and high-tech companies in Silicon Valley for more than 25 years. Unlike Jillian and Brynn Bancroft, however, she did not encounter any murders. Rather, she focused on publicizing her companies and there products. She is the author of the Jillian Hillcrest mysteries, ON MESSAGE, OPEN MEETINGS, and FAIR DISCLOSURE; the historical mystery THE JUDGE'S STORY; and the first Brynn Bancroft mystery, HILLTOP SUNSET. She currently lives in southern California where she is exploring the benefits of handcrafted wine from the Ramona Valley area near San Diego.

Although it is possible to read this book as a standalone, I would recommend that you start with Hilltop Sunset before reading this one. There are several references to people and events from the first book, and you will be able to follow better if you have the background. The mystery part of the story is very well written. Everyone is a suspect, and you'll be kept guessing at the murderer and their motive all the way through. Brynn is definitely a trouble magnet, but she manages to make dealing with all the obstacles in her life look easy. I found her character much more likable in this story than in the first one, and can hardly wait to see what happens to her next. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Another heart thumping book from Ms. Strand I LOVED the first book and no doubt that I am sure the second book will interest me as well. Ms. Joyce T. Strand's book is a hearth thumping book to read, relax, and mysterious. She will play your mind with your wild guesses who is the killer for The Landscape For Murder. I am still in-love with Brynn and Liam. They seems still in-love with each other. I hope these two will get back together. They are my favorite characters from the series. The scenery sounds beautiful. What a perfect place to enjoy drinking wine with your loved-ones. I cannot wait for book three. If you love romance, romantic scenery and mystery Landscape For Murder is perfect for you to read. I enjoy sipping my coffee, wish it was wine while reading this book. Disclosure: I received the paperback copy of the book to read and review. All my thoughts and opinions are 100% honestly mine.

For quite some time, I struggled with how many stars I would give this book. I am an avid mystery lover--especially cozy mysteries just like this one. This tale more than fits the bill (no sex, very minimal and practically nonexistent profanity), and from the first page, I was thrown into the story. I simply adored the interactions between Brynn and her ex (Liam). In fact, that is what kept me reading as sometimes I found my interest waning in the book. Now that is not the fault of the author. In fact, her writing style is descriptive and intriguing. For me, I would give this book a 4.5 star rating because I wasn't overly interested in "who-done-it," but I loved every other aspect of the story. In fact, I feel the strengths of this story are the characterization and the secondary stories (not the murder). The fact that this story is inspired by actual events is another detail I find fascinating. I would definitely read the next book in the series. The fact that I didn't lose interest due to the dynamic characters featured in the book is certainly a nod to this author's prowess. Furthermore, if you are searching for an easy-to-read, entertaining book that you can tackle easily in one evening, this is definitely it. I believe that the next book in the series will even be more intriguing because after all, if a mystery book can keep my attention even when I am not overly interested in the crime that is committed, I would say that the author has more than accomplished her purpose. I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Landscape for Murder is the second book of the Brynn Bancroft series and while it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend you reading Hilltop Sunset first. It will give you a background on Brynn and her current situation. This lady has a strong magnetism for trouble but she makes every bit of it look easy as she moves on with her new life after some pretty crazy events. When I read Hilltop Sunset, I wasn't really much of a Brynn fan but I think her character evolved into one that I can appreciate. She is more down to Earth, is learning to open herself up to new friends and does so much growing in regards to life. The twists and turns will have your mind venturing down one path and within a few sentences, a new theory seeps into your mind and takes over. The setting is nothing but phenomenal - so great, in fact, that you will get wrapped up in it and next thing you know, you'll find yourself planning a visit to wine country! There are a couple of characters that I still don't trust by the end of the book so I can't wait for the next book to be released to see if my suspicions are right! I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Yes, this is a good one. While not the first in the series, the book does well as a stand alone. Brynn is shocked when she finds out that her painting friend was found murdered. Then, there are a rash of burglaries, including her winery. As she investigates, she ties the two crimes together and puts herself in danger! I must say, this author grabbed my attention right at the start. I guessed some of the plot twists and some I didn't. The writing took me a little bit to get used to but it wasn't bad. The best part of the book by far was the characters. Everyone was realistic. It seemed like you could meet any of these folks in everyday life and I really liked that! I was curious how Brynn and her ex would interact, or that coupled with the foster intrigued me completely. I really plan to get the others in this series and read all of them in order to find out more about the characters I now love. It was a 4/5 for me. Good mystery. Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book (via Beck Valley Books). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Welcome to another helping of murder and mystery involving Brynn Bancroft and her teenage Ward. The authors excellent writing and imaginative plot makes for a good read. The storyline is a simple one and with the creation of mysterious characters, without revealing their motives, keeps the reader enrapt and it's a real page turner. The moral of this story is how well do you know your family and closest friends and to what degree can you trust them . Based around the vineyards that Brynn owns and is trying to develop, problems begin with the theft of their wine and the murder of an artist. Our heroine finds herself embroiled in several different problems, who is the mystery painter and why were they killed? Whose sending threatening messages to the winery? All these questions are brought together by very creative writing. Anyone who enjoys a murder mystery which makes them think all the way through will enjoy this novel.

I read the first Brynn Bancroft book, Hilltop Sunset, and I was looking forward to what mystery Brynn would end up involved in this time. Right away Brynn finds out about the murder of a friend and, of course, she is curious why someone would murder a retired man who enjoyed painting. I had trouble relating to Brynn in the first book, but she was much easier to relate to in Landscape for Murder. She and her ex-husband, Liam, get along much better now that they're divorced. And she is a good mother figure for Josh, a teenager who is her legal ward. Anyone who likes murder mysteries will like Landscape for Murder. Even though it's the 2nd book in a series, it definitely stands on its own. It has more than one mystery to solve, a couples twists, and a little suspense. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I love reading the Brynn Bancroft mystery series! I love Brynn, but I’m not sure I would ever want to be her friend. She tends to have incredibly bad luck!! I love the mystery that everyone is the suspect. It is written exactly as that. You get suspicious of everyone and everything and you start trying to piece the puzzle together to figure out who did it and why before the book reveals the truth. I am not a wine drinker, but I am dying to go to the winery and while I may not want to be friends with Brynn, I would like to visit the winery. (Just not stay long enough for her bad luck to rub off!) Although this is part of a series (and I have read them both) I do not feel like you miss information if you do not read the first, but I promise you will enjoy it more! Landscape for Murder is a fun mystery that you won’t want to put down!

I am a huge fan of this series so far. Joyce has a way with writing that brings her books to life. Brynn is a character that you end up liking and wanting to read more. She goes through a lot in this book and there are twists and turns. It was a fast read for me because it was so good. I was left guessing who had committed the murder and liked reading to find out the answer. It is an action packed book that keeps you wanting more. I am loving this series!

Wineries and Mysteries--two of my favorite things. Who doesn't love a good glass of wine now and then? What better way to enjoy it than while reading about wine country, deceit, murder, and romance? Well, three out of four isn't too bad. Brynn Bancroft has had her share of troubles in life. She's divorced, was the object of a stalker's affection, dated an embezzler, and now her new friend is found murdered. I really like the way that Brynn's past ebbs into the present, but as a reader, it is not necessary to the story line. Sometimes, as a series grows you really need to have read the prior novels to fall deeply into the newest edition. That is not so here. Yes, some parts were much more clear because I know Brynn's past, but even without that knowledge it was a well written stand alone story.

This is the first book I have read by this author and although it is book 3 in the series, it can be read as a stand alone which is awesome. I love a good book which I can't put down until I've finished it and this is definitely one of those books. It grabbed my attention right from the start. The characters were really realistic in this book, more realistic than in most other books. I had no idea who committed the murder at all! I love the amount of twists and turns in this book. A few of them I guessed, others took me by surprise. I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series. I received a free copy of the book to review. All opinions are my own.

I'm new to Ms. Strand's writing, but she had me hooked from the first chapter. Her characters are so alive that I felt like I really knew them. Brynn has a life she's beginning to love, running a winery in Sonoma with her ex-husband and raising a teen ward as her son. She's even made a new friend while painting. Then that friend is found murdered, their winery is burglarized, friends are attacked and people kidnapped. Can Brynn and Liam discover who is out to get them before their lives are destroyed? Or will these change their future forever? This is part of a series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone book. * I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

I felt like the characters in this book were RIGHT IN FRONT of me.. They were so real. It’s been a LONG time since I have read a book where the characters were that real. I had no idea who committed the murder, and I was guessing from the very beginning. This book was awesome. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and now I want to read more. This is book #3 in the series, but thankfully it can be read as a stand alone, however, I will be getting books 1 & 2 so I can read them also! While it’s not a short book, it didn’t seem to take me long to get it done. I think maybe because I was so into it. I think it took me a total of 5-6 hours to finish it from page 1 to the very last word of the book.

Characters! Yes, Joyce T. Strand does a great job bringing characters to life. Everyone from Brynn to her ward who is just a teenager are people you could run into in everyday life. I love that about books, when the characters seem like people in my life or people who could be in my life. The setting at a winery in Sonoma, actually outside Sonoma, is an area I am familiar with. I was in Sonoma just last year as I visited my cousin and his wife who life there. It is a beautiful area and the perfect setting for this book. I am also familiar with the Point Reyes area which is part of this particular book. These are areas of California that are both beautiful to those who live there and to those of us who visit. I can truthfully say that I did not see all the twists in this plot coming. There were times when I guessed what was coming next and was totally wrong. That does not happen very often with my mystery reading. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is the third book I have read by this author-and the 3rd in the Brynn Bancroft Mysteries. Hilltop Sunset was the first. I also read and reviewed Fair Disclosure in the same series. It helps a bit to have read the the others in this series but is not mandatory-they all can be read as stand alone-but it does refer back to the other books occasionally. I guess you can tell I really love this series--they are action packed with lots of twists and turns, the characters feel real and are well defined. I read it very quickly--I found it hard to put down once I started reading! I don't think you want to miss this one!! And I am looking forward to the next one.

Brynn was just getting to know her new painting buddy, Kenneth, when he gets murdered. Following clues, Brynn works with the sheriff and the FBI, trying to make sense of the murder. Then with a rash of burglaries, including her winery, keeping her focused on the safety of her foster son, Josh, Brynn starts connecting the two events, bringing danger closer than ever. I love this cast of characters. They have grown so much since the first book, Hilltop Sunset. I couldn’t stop until I finished the story. The combination of murder and mystery set the stage for a great read. And I must say, all the wine consumption had my mouth watering.
