Leif Erikson was an 11th Century Norse explorer who left Norway and sailed from Iceland to North America. It is uncertain exactly where he landed in America, likely somewhere between Maine and New Jersey. There has been speculation that the Viking came ashore on the Charles River near Gerry's Point.
