About the Author

Alexia Marcelle Abegg was born in Folsom, California, on the day Mount St. Helens erupted in Washington - May 18, 1980. She has been inspired by her mother's and father's creativity and dedication to art throughout her life.
An award-winning designer, artist, and writer, Alexia has always been fascinated with the art of sewing. She studied fashion and fine arts in college.
After trying her hand at photography, production, acting, costuming, hair and makeup for film and television, fashion design, and custom sewing, she found her home in creating fine art quilts and sewing patterns while living in Brooklyn, New York. She later worked for esteemed designer Anna Maria Horner in Nashville, Tennessee, which cemented her love for the sewing and quilting world.
Alexia and her artist husband, Rob Bancroft, live in Nashville with their two dogs. She currently divides her time among creating patterns for their company, Green Bee Design and Patterns; teaching; making art; and writing.

This is a perfect book for beginners that need great tutorials for projects so they can get their feet wet in the world of quilting and sewing.

I found the reference section very comprehensive to help the inexperienced sewer or quilter tackle the projects in the book without worry.

Liberty of London Tana Lawn and tradition are synonymous, so it comes as no surprise that many of the quilt designs in this book are low key and simple to piece in order to feature the main Liberty fabric. The 25 projects are predominantly based around the nine-patch block and half-square triangle, but it is the use of fabric and arrangement of these blocks that gives the quilts their charm. Full-size templates are included with graded tissue paper garment patterns. The quilts are simple to construct and make full use of the type of fabric design which is very easily recognizable as Liberty of London.

Liberty of London's Tana Lawn fabrics are prized for their beautiful designs and soft feel - characteristic worth the hefty per yard price tag. The main quilt that everyone is loving is the Marcella Medallion quilt. I have to admit after seeing all the different variations via Flickr and Pinterest, I love it too.

The book is FULL of projects. There are projects that aren’t quilts too...ipod or Kindle covers. Even clothing patterns. and bag patterns. I’ve been wanting to make a medallion quilt. In fact, making one is on my bucket list. Even though I write and tell you about other projects in the book, I am still stuck on the medallion quilt...I really like it lots!!

Back to the review....there are lots and lots of projects in the book and they vary from beginner to advanced. It’s a good bang from your buck if you like sewing other things besides quilts too.

The famous Liberty fabric shop in London, England, started in 1870 selling imported textiles from Japan, China, and India. Today, known for its small floral prints, Liberty Art Fabrics releases two distinct and separate lines every spring and fall, a seasonal collection and a classic collection, according to the newly released book, Liberty Love, by Alexia Marcelle Abegg. Her book offers 25 projects to quilt and sew and features Liberty of London fabrics. Liberty Lifestyle is launching a line of quilt-weight cotton, coming late in 2013. The collection will be distributed in the USA by E. E. Schenck, so check your local quilt shop later on this year.

She started Green Bee a few years ago and we're even more jealous because she's just that good. Now she's throwing a Liberty of London love-fest with nine original quilts, plus shirts, bags, pincushions and even an adorable dog collar. But the party really starts with her excellent tutorial on sewing basics and tips for working with these glorious Anglo-lawns.

Most of the quilts are completely beginner-friendly. And then there's that scrumptious Marcelle Medallion Quilt that is both modern and classic. Also check out the Classic Quilted Handbag, Little Pearl Dress and our fave, Olive's Collar. She's even included father-son camp shirts so our boys don't miss out on the Liberty obsession. We love it. Tons!

Generation Q Magazine

Similar to the recent Liberty Book of Home Sewing, but not with the Liberty of London department store imprint, this collection of 25 quilt, accessory, and clothing patterns also celebrates the famous Tana Lawn fabric that Liberty's been producing for decades. This book is less British in style, both in the patterns and the book's slightly busy design, and that posh crispness that makes Liberty so beloved is missed. These designs, however, are approachable and inviting, especially the series of quilts: the Mad Plaid is a stunning quilted tartan, while the Nine-Patch Revisited Baby Quilt is simple enough for the beginning quilter, yet shows off the fabric nicely. The handful of clothing patterns are simple, although options are provided only for standard misses' sizes. Basic instructions for sewing and quilting are provided, but the author does use terms that she doesn't define at times. It's worth noting that Liberty fabrics can be somewhat difficult to find, are expensive, and are rarely copied, and that working with Tana lawn isn't the same as working with a quilting cotton. Other charming—and cheaper—fabrics could, however, easily be substituted. This book will dazzle Liberty lovers. Includes patterns.
