This is the second book in the Lightning Strikes trilogy. Wow! The story just gets better and better. I really enjoyed the continuation of the story, this time involving Katherine Barrett and Alicia's brother Jake Monroe. They have to find Katerine's brother and that takes them to Mexico. The suspense had me not wanting to put the book down. And to see how lightning helps them out. I also thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Kat and Jake. A lot of past history that the had to get through. Now I can't wait to see what happens in the last book of the trilogy. I really enjoy reading Barbara Freethy's books.

Wow. Lightning Lingers was just as exciting and fast paced as the first book in the series, Beautiful Storm. This series is about family. The Monroe Family who's patriarch is believed to have been lost in an airplane accident over the Gulf of Mexico. Each book brings more clues to his disappearance and we get to know the Monroe family and those they love. This book was so different from the first, now, I can't wait to read book three, Summer Rain.

Jake and Katherine have a bit of a history. They were high school and college sweethearts. Jake's dad died in a plane crash and he spiraled downhill. He changed. Kat was on the verge of either failing out of school to keep up with Jake, or to leave him and do what she has always dreamed of doing, becoming a doctor. So she left Jake and it was the wake up call that he needed. Jump ahead 10 years, Katherine gets a call from her brother TJ and he he got himself into some trouble. He just wants her to go home to Corpus Christi to look after their mother that has Alzheimer's. She goes home and is determined to find TJ and save him. She hires Jake to fly her down to Mexico from the charter company he works for. However a plane crash later, an explosion, a flash flood, a flat tire, and kicking at trees, they make it to their destination only to see TJ being kidnapped by the drug cartel. They devise a plan with the help of Jake's great-grandmother and her friend. Lightning becomes Jake's friend, when he never believed in seeing what the lightning had to say to him. Jake and Kat can't deny their attraction to each other and their love they still have for one another. Great second installment to the mystery. More questions are answered, but more questions are asked too. Will Danni be able to solve the mystery in the last book? Can't wait to find out!

I read the first book in this trilogy last fall and have been eagerly awaiting this book. It was excellent! I loved the characters - dealing with their own regrets and emotions while trying to get along with each other and protect those they love. The mystery was very good - I was never quite sure who to trust and every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, a new twist was thrown in to amp up the tension. I really like the characters and the push and pull between them. Now to wait for number 3......

Another engrossing romantic suspense novel by Ms. Freethy! Katherine has just finished her training as pediatric emergency physician when her brother TJ calls her to ask her to take care of their mother because he has to disappear due to his employer's involvement in something sinister. Katherine hires her former high school boyfriend, Jake, to fly her to Mexico to help her locate her brother. Although reluctant, Jake agrees to fly her to Mexico so she can locate and help her brother. On their flight to Mexico, their plane goes down in a lightning storm. They lose contact with everyone and have many close calls as they try to get to the area Jake's great grandmother lives in since Katherine guesses that is where TJ has gone to hide. Their attempts to find TJ coincide with what happened to Jake's dad's flight going down in Mexico ten years ago. The suspense is complicated and well planned. The story weaves seamlessly with the efforts of Jake's sister Alicia to determine what happened to their dad in book one of the series. Katherine and Jake's animosity from their breakup years ago gradually disappears as they reconnect and work together to save her brother and renew their relationship. I was provided a copy for my honest review.

Book 2 of the Lightning Strikes trilogy doesn't disappoint. In Book 2, we are drawn into the life of Alicia's brother, Jake. He is a pilot like his father was and even flies out of the same airstrip. Katherine is the one that got away. Jake has never stopped loving her. Katherine gets a call from her brother TJ from Mexico. He is there on a trip for work and feels that he is in danger. He wants Katherine to go home and watch over their mother. When Katherine gets there, she finds her mother in a worse case of dementia & poor health than she expected. TJ had not told her that he had hired home help for their mom. Jake is visiting his mother in the neighborhood when he finds out Katherine has returned. When Katherine & Jake were dating, Jake was always telling Katherine and TJ stories about his great grandmother, the land in Mexico and their family connection to lightening. Believing that TJ will head to that village, Katherine ends up hiring Jake to fly her down there. They end up crashing in a lightning strike and running for their lives. Will Katherine & Jake let their love win this time? Will they find TJ before it's too late? What about Jake's dad? Is this all just coincidence? Barbara is great at writing a story that draws you deep into the story. You don't want to put it down. You are drawn into the characters and their lives and live their adventures with them. You could read this as a stand alone but you will miss out on some of the references from Book 1. I loved this book! It transitioned into the last book in the series and leaves you impatient for more! I did receive an ARC of this story from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the 2nd book to the Lightening Strikes trilogy and it picks up where book 1 left off, but this time the focus is on Alicia's brother Jake and the woman he never stopped loving, Katherine. The two have been apart for 10 years and suddenly reunited after Katherine receives a call from her brother, TJ, who is in trouble in Mexico. She wants to help him and asks Jake to fly her there. There plane is caught in a lightening storm and forced to land in the middle of nowhere. They believe they will find TJ at the same village Jake's great grandmother is because Jake used to share stories with him about his family history and their connection to lightening. The story provides more clues to Jake's father's disappearance and adds new questions, too. It also transitions smoothly to the third installment that will feature Jake's sister, Danielle. I love Barbara Freethy's books and this did not disappoint.

Romance, Adventure, and mystery! A great combination! This book is a real page turner and another in Barbara's list of winners! I loved the main characters and the storyline from the very first page. Barbara's writing always "sucks" me right in and I can't wait to complete the book. This book takes you to a small town in Mexico, off the beaten path. There is a teeth clenching chase through a forest and the main characters are running for their lives, you are really drawn in. I read this book in 2 days and was sorry I had to put it down in between. I really look forward to book 3 and the answers to the mystery. Another great Barbara Freethy book. I am a collector of good reads and her's are always a part of my collection. Waiting "not so patiently" for the next book in this series! Barbara, thanks for making my reading time an adventure!

Light up your Literary Life WOW 5+ This book was a nail biter. Never quite sure who they could trust. Loved the thread from book one to book two and can't wait for book three. Would love to see the Mayan herbals come to the forefront for Katherine in book three. Barbara you are a writer than I aspire to be.

Decent build up but the ending seemed abrupt and not too surprising.
