Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.
Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:
• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.
• Explains the role of good works for followers of Christ. They aren’t our ticket to heaven but they are our marching orders on earth.
• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.
• Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.
As we scatter love, we create a safe space where we can openly share the gospel. We get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Most importantly, Listen, Love, Repeat will enable you to live a life that is full of kind deeds, not to selfishly shout, “Hey! Look at me!” but to humbly implore, “Will you look at Him?”

I liked his book & all the creative suggestions, encouraging scriptures, notable quips and recipes to help be more present and attentive to all the heart drops in our daily lives. Karen gives wisdom on how to be more attentive to those around us, helping us to hear, see and feel when we can reach out and show the love of Jesus to them all the time.
Are you looking for a way to love others well in your sphere of influence? Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World is a new book by Karen Ehman that shows you just how to do that. I was blessed to be on Karen’s Launch team (so fun, by the way!), and hear her share her heart behind this book. I was attracted to the title of the book, alone! Listen, Love, Repeat is a combination of personal stories from Karen’s experience in listening for “heart drops” and loving people beyond the norm, Scriptures, and prayers to help us love even those that are less…..easy. 'If our perspective each day can be “I am in it for you” instead of “What is in it for me?” we will discover the joy of serving Jesus – without expecting anything in return and done only for and audience of One.' I think we all battle with a little selfishness in giving our time and resources from time to time. But listening for heart drops, loving on the people that serve us day-to-day – oftentimes with little to no recognition – and choosing to serve others without getting anything in return is so rewarding! One of the chapters deals with loving on the “necessary” people in your life – mail carriers, delivery people, grocery store clerks. I just found out yesterday that the lady that has delivered our mail for probably the last decade retired last weekend, and I feel like I missed an opportunity to love on her. I am taking that to heart and being more intentional this year to love on others. Listen, Love, Repeat is filled with practical tips and encouragement for loving others well!
I love Karen Ehman and look to her as a mentor in my life even though I have never met her. She always gives wisdom to women in any stage of life. Listen, Love and Repeat did not disappoint me as it made me rethink how I often I show kindness in everyday life. I loved her idea to listening to heart drops of those around me. I kept heart drops in mind when I purchased Christmas gifts this year. I have a job where I talk to other moms daily and I am consciously trying to show kindness and a listening ear to them. Karen is an inspiration for hospitality and I was reminded in this book that people would rather be loved in an imperfect home than not be invited at all. As always Karen’s recipes never disappoint and her Peanut Butter Monster Oatmeal Cookies are a new favorite for my children. I received an advanced copy of Listen, Love and Repeat, but I would have definitely bought this book to add to my collection of Karen’s books. Most of my books end up at the used book store, but this one will be reread yearly.
This was such a timely message for me in a world full of self absorbed people and hate. It was a challenge to step outside of my comfort zone and listen for the heart drops for those around me. Learning to make small sacrifices to put others first really spoke volumes to me through Karen's book. Karen has a way of relating to the everyday reader while teaching us biblical truth. Plus a great bonus was the fantastic recipes she shares throughout the book. I highly recommend this book, it is a must read for your 2017 year! It is one you will return to again and again. This would also be a great book for your next book club or small group bible study!
This book will make you STOP to Listen, Love, Repeat. The personal stories that Karen shares not only make her relatable but the purpose of the book relatable. You will find yourself scattering kindness and maybe even stepping outside of your comfort zone to do so. I not only tuned in more to my family members but to other people that crossed my path throughout the day. The movement that came out of this book, #5dollardash, will warm your heart. This is a quick and easy read. There may be a little bit of repetition throughout chapters, but hey, that's how we talk. I bought a couple of copies to share with friends and family. My hope is that they pass it along to their family & friends. Disclaimer: I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The biggest question these days is "how can I better love my neighbor?" If you have asked that very question, then this book is for you! Karen gives numerous and detailed ways for how to scatter kindness and show love to the people we come in contact with every day. Whether it's our own family who lives with us or the mailman, she has ideas and suggestions for all kinds of ways to show our love and appreciation for ALL the people in our lives.. I think at one point I saw Karen mention that if she could only have written one book in her life, it would have been this book. I would say if that was the case, she would have spent her life well by sharing the message included in this book. Imagine the grandma or aunt or friend who you always noticed would give gifts to people for no reason or always remembered to send a cards for birthdays – and always seem to have an endless supply of presents and cards on hand – and you would have an idea of what Karen is like and the knowledge she stuffed into this book. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review of this book. Not only did I love the book, but I also grew to love Karen and her heart as well...and wished I had a friend like that in my life!
Karen Ehman's new book Listen, Love, Repeat is more than a great read -- it will change your heart! I was fortunate enough to be part of the launch team for this book, and received an advanced copy (ARC) to read and review for others. Before I get to the book, let me say something about the author: she LIVES this message! It's a simple yet powerful message: notice the necessary, listen purposefully, and serve graciously and generously. Generous giving isn't measured by how MUCH we give, but by our purpose for giving. I love giving to others - but I'm not so good at giving of myself for others. Sometimes giving becomes about us instead of the person in front of us. One line from the book that rocked my self-centered world is, "Entertaining puts the emphasis on you and your home and seeks to impress others. In contrast, hospitality puts the emphasis on your guests and seeks to help them to feel refreshed, not impressed, when they leave your home." (Listen, Love, Repeat p. 142) Wow! Heart check! Listen, Love, Repeat is filled with treasures of wisdom! The book challenges readers to grow, learn, and discover fun, practical ways to serve others. Scattering kindness, sprinkling love, noticing the necessary, loving prickly people, and listening to heart drops. Sounds like a recipe Jesus would love! And speaking of recipes, the book is filled with Karen's OWN homemade, football-team-approved recipes -- like Peanut Butter Oatmeal Monster Cookies! Karen's creative tips, recipes, and resources help the creatively-challenged -- like me! And even more importantly, the book is filled with scripture references that reinforce the biblical importance of living for others. Listen, Love, Repeat has changed the way I see the world around me - and it will change you, too!
WOW! Don't miss out on this book to bless yourself by blessing others. "Plan to give but be prepared to also receive" I just love this. The book is about many ways you can give but also shows blessings in return. I was blessed to receive an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review. I can honestly say that I really LOVE Karen Ehman and Listen Love Repeat.
Note: I received an ARC of the book from the publisher. I was blessed to be able to be a part of the "Listen, Love, Repeat " book launch team. I can't recommend this book enough. Karen writes in a fun, down to earth style and you feel like she is your best friend within the first chapter. Her writing is practical and biblically based. Each chapter is full of fun stories, tips and spiritual guidance. I love how Karen teaches us to listen for heart drops and scatter kindness. I have used many of her suggestions in my daily life. I will refer to the book over and over as I strive to love others better. If everyone read this book and took it to heart, the world would be a better place.
Listen Love Repeat is by far my favorite book of Karen’s. I need to learn to slow down and truly listen to those God puts in my path: my family, my friends, and those “necessary” people in my life. “Could we try to be more like Jesus, this perfect man who was never too busy to notice someone who needed his touch?” – Karen Ehman You will love this book and be inspired to scatter kindness wherever you go.
