I actually borrowed this ebook from my local library, and when I was not able to finish it within the lending period I had to purchase it, as there were 6 others ahead of me on the waiting list and I could wait no longer! Glad I own it now, as it has been chosen as my book club summer reading selection. Very well written and and also well researched. This got me looking into the book of Job further - you will not be disappointed.

"Love Amid the Ashes" will seize your interest right from the beginning. God's people come alive in this creative contextual flow of Job's life story. This novel is a must for your spring and summer reading list. I appreciate the historical flow chart and the reference to scriptures. Mesu Andrews stirring writing will have you looking at the book of Job in a very unique way!

Love Amid the Ashes is the debut novel of Mesu Andrews. From the beginning, it is obvious that Mesu has steeped herself in the study of the biblical text, and has done careful research in order to bring a fresh perspective on the sufferings of Job. At first, I wondered about a love story which takes place in the midst of Job's incredible pain and suffering. But Mesu has done justice to this story, parts of which are well-known, and others, little known. She has carefully woven together a story from details in the Bible, together with possible scenarios. Readers will be wanting to re-read the Book of Job as well as the relevant chapters from Genesis to see how the storyline flows. Love Amid the Ashes is a story for all time, as it deals with the ageless themes of forgiveness, shame, love and romance, family dynamics, and suffering. Faith shines brilliantly through words and actions. Characters come to learn of El Shaddai, and this knowledge deepens throughout the story. As the reader, I was caught up in the dilemmas of the characters, and felt their mounting tension. I found the hope-filled ending satisfying. Mesu adds the story of the hoopoe bird, now Israel's national bird, to tie the story line together. She also includes the relevant biblical text at the beginning of each chapter. Author's notes explain how the book came to be written. This is one of the first historical fiction books set in biblical times which I have read. I am very impressed with this debut novel, and look forward to what is yet to come from Mesu Andrews! ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Mesu Andrews is a speaker who has devoted herself to passionate and intense study of Scripture. Harnessing her deep understanding and love for God's Word. Andrews brings the biblical world alive for her readers. She lives in Washington.

Great characters. Loved the descriptions, both of characters' emotions and the surroundings. The author did a good job of bringing the Biblical characters and her fictional characters together and, with good research, enhanced our appreciation of the story.

Loved every bit of this book!

If you know the story of Job from the Bible, this is a good read as to who the human culprits are behind the attacks. As for Dinah, a blue eyed blond in the Sinai desert?? Don't think so. Which of Jacobs wives or concubines was European? A red head like Esau would have been more acceptable. Other than this attempt at (what), I am enjoying the book.

Never thought I could enjoy biblical fiction but this story was great! It occupies the same literary space and universe as The Red Tent. Loved it!

I couldn't put this book down. I read it in two days.

Enjoyed this book though it apparently is not an entirely true biblical account. Once I was aware of this, I read it accepting it was far-fetched with some character connections and events.

For everyone going on that this has nothing to do with the bible...it's called fiction folks! They have used poetic license to write a story. It's the writer's story of "what if...".

I recently stumbled into "Christian" fiction. I am totally hooked. They are so up lifting as well as heart opening. The only problem is . . . . I can NOT put them down. Thank you, Mesu Andrews; for your wonderful and touching story. Love amid the ashes has everything I look for in a good book and oh so much more. I am hoping by now you have written another wonderful story; if not, I will be impatiently waiting. Review by: Pamlsue

Love Amid the Ashes is a well-researched look into the life of Job. Mesu Andrews stays true to the story of Job using her meticulous research to write a story full of life, romance and passion. What was Job’s life like before he lost everything? How did Job’s wife react to the tragedy that struck her family? As with other books I’ve read of Mesu’s, she makes reading Biblical fiction fun introducing characters that add to the story. If you’ve read the book of Job and wondered how things might have been, I recommend reading Love Amid the Ashes! A definite must-read!
