Mississippi Catfish is a touching story of young friendship that crosses the racial lines that divide the rural south in the 1930’s. Vonnie, a young girl who just lost her mother, arrives to live with her grandfather in Mississippi, far from her home of Chicago. Green, a boy who struggles to fill the gap his father’s abandonment created, must constantly strive to feed his family. The two young people discover that survival is easier when the burden is shared. This is a touching story that will move you heart and give you a glimpse of true friendship that defies society’s prejudices and brings hope during a time of unrest. You will experience through Vonnie and Green a true friendship that surpasses race, gender, and age. Those readers who love unconventional characters who do extraordinary acts of kindness will fall in love with this story found in the Love Around the Table collection. Knowing the proceeds from every sale of this book goes to help hurting children is one more reason to spend time with Vonnie and Green in 1930's Mississippi.
