When looking up the word magnet in the dictionary, the most common definition is a person or thing that has a powerful attraction. That being said, what kind of magnet are you? What people are you attracting? What lifestyle are you living that makes them want to join you? Lynn Cowell opens up her heart to us in her book Magnetic: Becoming the Girl He Wants. She stressed that we shift our focus from a guy to our great Savior and become the magnetic woman that He created us to be. We live in the generation of females that live in a state of wonder. They wonder why they have yet to be asked out, why they are not popular, why they are not on the fast track to married life, and so much more. Sadly, if we do not control these wonders, we are left useless in the work that God has for us. Lynn reminds us that as we live out the Fruit of the Spirit (“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” ~Galatians 5:22-23), we will cultivate an inner beauty that will radiate on the outside! As we shift our focus from guys to our Savior, and live the magnetic life that attracts others to Him, in His timing we will attract that Godly guy that He has for us. Don’t rush… Ladies, pick up a copy of this book, you won’t regret it!
Magnetic easily won its way into my heart. I absolutely loved every word of this book. Lynn Cowell hit the nail on the head with this book! This book had me finding myself questioning the actions of my life. The little quizzes at the end of the chapters showed me where I needed to let Jesus in more. I know people said this book was targeted towards teenagers but I’m 20 years old and I found a lot to connect with. I think college age girls can find things to relate to in Magnetic. I also agree with a lot of other reviews that every single Christian girl needs to read this book! I think with the way our society is today by making young girls think they need to dress, act, talk or look a certain way to attract guys makes our need for a book like Magnetic, greater. Let me just say that the cover for this book is absolutely beautiful. The picture does not do it justice. The greenish and blue colors fading into each other really grabbed my attention. I would have loved if the book was hardcover but I will make an exception for Magnetic any day. Also, the writing on the cover is gorgeous. I think they just help set the cool tone of this book. This book will always be my number 1 choice when recommending Christian books to young girls. There is no reason a young girl shouldn’t read about putting Jesus first and learning to become Magnetic not only for a boy but for Jesus. I just absolutely adore this book. I would definitely tell every parent with a teenage or college daughter to purchase this book for them. I can’t find one bad word to say about Magnetic. I give it 5+ stars! I received this book for free from Blogging For Books Program in exchange for my honest review.
Focusing on the Fruit of the Spirit, Lynn Cowell lays out a plan for teenage girls to become Magnetic. As the mother of a 12 ½ year old daughter (with two more following closely behind her), I am continually on the lookout for instruction on how to equip my girls to pursue God’s best for their lives. Magnetic has become an invaluable book in our home library. While I picked up the book in an effort to impart wisdom to my daughters, I found myself face-to-face with the mirror as this book inspired transformation in my own life. If you are a woman with younger girls in your life or a young woman with your whole life ahead of you, this book is a must read. Magnetic will equip you to become the girl God wants (which will in turn make you attractive to everyone around you)!
Lynn Cowell has given girls a new, real way to view themselves and their world. No longer must our girls conform to the ways that life has in store for them but has shown them a true way to live and connect with others.
If you are or if you know a young lady in her teens or early 20s I highly recommend you get a copy of this book. Lynn has a way of connecting with young ladies. She just "gets it". My daughters both loved her last book and can't wait to read Magnetic. One of my favorite quotes from her book is: "Gorgeous is not skin deep but heart deep, a beauty that develops as my heart discovers and returns true love." In a world that focuses on the outside, it's important that young ladies understand that true beauty comes from within. God has created us to be magnetic.
