Overview

Secret identities, second chances, drama, desire: It’s all going down in Miami Beach in this tantalizing novel from the bestselling author of Pull Me Close, which was hailed by Aurora Rose Reynolds as “a heart-gripping story about . . . the power of love.”

April: Walking away from Matt Moreno was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Lying to him was a close second, but for his safety, I had no other choice. I was undercover, working to put some nasty people behind bars. But when Matt nearly recognizes me on Lincoln Road a year later, all those very real feelings come rushing back. Now that my assignment’s almost over, will he understand why I lied? Why I had to leave? Most important, can he ever forgive me?

Matt: I was madly in love with June Simpson . . . or, at least, with the woman I thought was June. Then she just disappeared while my family’s nightclub went through hell. And after months of searching, when I think I’ve finally found that sexy, raspy voice and those exquisite blue eyes, she slips away once more. Turns out, “June” is actually Detective April White. She’s been playing me the whole time. And she’s about to rock my world all over again.

No cheating. No cliffhangers. And no dress code.

Love this series.

3.75stars Make me stay is the second book in the series. It was for me just ok because the first book was really amazing to me. The plot was god interesting, realistic. Both April and Matt great develop character with great passion between them. We see them both in two different sides of them. Matt easy going and funny and then the darker angrier side. April in strong fierce side and then in broken vulnerably one. Matt was really long time very stubborn and I thought that he wouldn’t go past the anger but in the end all ends well. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly

The Panic series is so good! I have loved all the books that I've read written by Sidney Halston and I highly recommend her books. You will not be disappointed. Mateo "Matt" Moreno works as a lawyer during the week and helps his brother and father run Panic one of Miamis hottest nightclubs on the weekends. Matt enjoys the work but it's starting to get a bit stressful. One day at Panic in walks the most breathtaking woman Matt has ever seen, June Simpson. June never meant to get involved with Matt. She was there to get to know his father one of the men they believed to be involved in running drugs. Only problem is Matt seems to consume her every thought. Months of a relationship that is all consuming but based on lies and secret identity June must leave Matt to save him from possible jail time. When all hell breaks Matt is left with no law job, being arrested and the disappearance of June the one person he needs the most. One year later April "June Simpson" White returns hoping that Matt will be able to forgive her for all her lies and understand what she had to do to save him. Matt sees nothing but a lie and the person who made his life almost spiral out of control. He vies never to forgive April even if he is the only person who can save her.

This is a mid-angst, face paced, steamy read about a couple that build what appears to be a beautiful relationship, only to be separated the very day they confess their love for each other. June/April was undercover when she met Matt. There is an instant attraction which works well for her because she is investigating his family’s nightclub for illegal activities. Matt falls hard pretty fast. He wasn’t looking for a relationship because he’s got a lot going on in his life and adding a woman to the mix would surely increase his stress levels that he covers up with fake smiles. He soon realizes that when he’s with June he is at peace and he wants to keep her in his life always. Unfortunately, things don’t work out for him and the next year finds him battling denial, anger, hurt and heartbreak. When June/April reenters his life and he learns her secret, he is unforgiving and resolved to keep her away. The first part of this book is written completely in Matt’s point of view, of which I was a big fan. The second part is a combination of both their POVs and this is where the angst cranks up. While the first book was pure magic, Make Me Stay was able to cast its own spell upon me and I enjoyed every bit of it. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series. Gosh, how do I tell about the story without giving spoilers??? Let me talk about the characters. June, April who is she really? A woman who is on a mission to bring down some bad guys. She is smart, but lets feelings get in the way when she meets Matt who can help her with her case, though he does not know it. Matt, he comes off as rich playboy not really giving a crap about anything. That is until he meets June, then everything seems to click for him though he does not know she has some Big secrets that affect their relationship and his family. I have never read this Author before and I really enjoyed her work. I liked that we start the book out in the present for a brief moment and then we are thrust back 2 years. This way we get to see the relationship between April and Matt develop, crash down and then jump back to present for the repercussions. A great story with drama, angst, love, betrayal, sexiness and second chances. 4Stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*

Sexy, angsty and addicting. Make Me Stay, literally made me stay glued to my seat from start to finish. She never intended to fall in love, much less while working undercover and yet the pull Matt Moreno had on her was irresistible. Even though she had to lie to him, she wouldn’t trade those five incredible moths they had together. But she had a duty uphold and bad guys to put away, so she vanished from his life for almost a year until her assignment was over. Can she convince him to give them a second chance? More importantly, can she persuade him to forgive her deceit? The only relationship Matt ever had was with his work, as an attorney and helping out his father and brother with their nightclub. He wasn’t a commitment-phobe, he just didn’t have the time until June Simpson, the most alluring woman he’d ever seen, walked into his club and completely mesmerized him, made him fall head over heels in love and then disappeared. Not being able to move on, he looked everywhere for her until he saw her on the news as Detective April White. He had been honest to a fault with her and she played him for a fool making it impossible for him to forgive her. Or so he thought, until life throws a curve ball that will change their lives forever. I feel as though Sidney Halston keeps getting better with every books she writes. Make Me Stay hits all the right buttons with a story that’s seductive and angsty, well developed characters and twists I never imagined but had me captivated from start to finish. Matt is no angel by any stretch of the imagination. For some, he might not be easy to like in the beginning, but the way he falls in love with June without hesitation and making no excuses is difficult to resist. And even when things get beyond complicated and he’s put in an impossible situation, he does the right thing. Vague much? A bit. But trust me, it’s better this way. The point is, he’s the kind of hero you root for. June/April had had a difficult life growing up, but I think few things had been more strenuous than having to choose between her personal happiness and the greater good. There are other reasons to like her, but that alone, but making the right call was enough for me. These two have incredible chemistry, they burn up the pages with it. But attraction is not the sole foundation of a good, lasting relationship and they will certainly face more difficulties than normal couples do. The question is, will their love be able to survive them? Make Me Stay is book #2 in the Panic series by Sidney Halston. It is a standalone, full-length contemporary romance with intense drama and consuming desires. I can’t wait what she comes up with next. Told from two points of view with a happy ending.

MAKE ME STAY is the second installment in Sidney Halston’s contemporary, adult PANIC erotic, romance series focusing on the men and women of the Miami nightclub Panic. This is nightclub co-owner Matt Moreno, and undercover police detective April White’s story line. MAKE ME STAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Some of the events of MAKE ME STAY run parallel and cross over with the events of book one PULL ME CLOSE. Told from dual first person points of view (Matt and April/June) and divided into two parts (the present and the past) MAKE ME STAY follows two paths: eighteen months earlier Matt Moreno fell in love with ‘pharmaceutical rep’ June Simpson only to be blindsided when the woman he loved disappeared five months later without a trace. Not only did June disappear but Matt, his brother Nick and their father Victor found themselves on the receiving end of a police investigation that resulted in the imprisonment of Victor Moreno, and Matt spiraling out of control. Fast forward to present day wherein Matt believes he has found June Simpson only to discover that June is an undercover detective known as April White, and April was part of the investigation that landed his father in prison for the rest of his life. What ensues is the breakdown of a relationship and friendship, that will be given a second chance when April finds herself the victim of a near-fatal assault that leaves her without any memories of the past or her relationship with Matt Moreno. The relationship between Matt and April is one of second chances but Matt’s hatred and anger towards April is caustic and unforgiving. April was only doing her job but Matt’s inability to forgive April finds our heroine looking towards a future without the man that she loves. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and intense. Nick Moreno and Katherine (Katie) Wilson (Pull Me Close #1) play secondary and supporting roles, as well as April’s partner Detective Dean Scott, Panic bartender Lola, head of security (bouncer) Fox, and Matt’s friends David and Geo. There is a developing story line between Fox and Lola, one I am hoping will be revealed in the next installment-KISS ME BACK. MAKE ME STAY is a story of second chances; a rekindling romance that was predicated on a lie that all but destroyed our story line hero. The premise is entertaining, sexy and intoxicating; the romance is sensual and provocative; the characters are colorful, dynamic and spirited. The conflict resolution felt a little rushed-for all of the hatred and vitriol spewed by the leading character, his about face was rather abrupt under the circumstances. MAKE ME STAY is an energetic story about two people torn apart by secrets and lies, and brought together by circumstance and tragedy.

the panic series continues with make me stay, and we spend some time with mateo moreno before his father's bust and afterwards. and the woman who is mixed up in all of it, june simpson aka april white. she was undercover and she shouldn't have let things get as far as they did. she had a job to do. but she fell in love with matt. and her disappearance devastated him. he was so lost and hurt without her that drugs and drinking and basic debauchery became his life. his brother was so determined to build their nightclub back up without his input. and there was nothing left for him. june was gone. and then he saw her. she looked different, but he knew it was her. in his bones he knew. and when she finally clued him in on what was happening, the betrayal he felt goes beyond words. but then she is injured while off duty, but because of her job. and she remembers nothing, but matt is familiar. at least, he seems to know more about her than anyone else does. because even though she met him while undercover, what she shared with him was real. she was her truest self with him. even trusting him enough to share the truth about her battle with krohn's disease. a fact that helps save her during her hospital stay. matt is conflicted. he doesn't know april. and yet, he does. he still feels something for her no matter what her name. but is it anger? love? passion? it doesn't matter because it's something. it's better than the numbness and pain he felt after june left his life. and maybe it's worth exploring to see if the good outweighs the bad. matt and april have so much baggage between them, that it's not a straightforward path to a happy ending. they have anger and resentment and hurt and lies a plenty. but there is also love and connection. and there is something they can build up. they just both have to want it. they have to give each other a reason to want it. **make me stay will publish on june 27, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/random house publishing group (loveswept) in exchange for my honest review.

What a great story this is! Sidney's written a tightly woven story that ranges from the sensual romance between Matt and June, to the suspense lurking in the background and the edge of his brother Nick and running the Club Panic. Matt is an attorney who works during the week at a prestigious firm in Ft Lauderdale and drives back to Miami on the weekends to help his brother run their father's club. The two brothers pretty much run things now but the old man still refuses to budge on certain things and still controlling. Matt basically provides a reprieve for Nick on the weekends so he can spend time with Katie who we met in book one. If you haven't read it, do!! Great story. Matt meets June (just June) working one weekend and he's totally flipped his nut over her. It's her eyes. She's saucy, spunky and confident, all the things Matt loves in a woman. As these two begin to develop a relationship it's clear to the reader June is hiding something but Matt just sort of rolls with things. June has a job as a Pharmaceutical Rep and so she does travel but she spends most of her time with Matt. Their time together was not just sexy and steamy but also fun and clearly these two were in deep together. Until the day June leaves for a business trip and never returns. A year later: Matt has hired private investigators, looked under rocks and turned every page trying to find the woman he loves to no avail. One day on the street he sees a woman with long red hair sporting the boho look and swears its June. He runs after her, she denies she's June but he can tell by her blue eyes that it's her, either that or he's lost it. Matt is angry, spiteful and displaced. After June left, the Club was raided by police, his father now in prison, he and his brother arrested though released and not charged, Matt lost his job as at attorney and they are now working to rebuild the club. When Matt gets a visit at the bar from a woman his life is once again turned upside down and he makes clear in no uncertain terms he wants any part of her. It was painful to listen to his rant and watch his behavior. When "June" whose real name is April is seriously injured and in the hospital her partner contacts Matt. Only because he has to leave town and April has no one else. The second half of the book is the mending of her body and mind and trying to piece their relationship back together if that's possible. Matt is the biggest challenge. His anger is just overwhelming, you can feel it radiate off the pages. Such a well written story and again with the unknowns and the twists and the romance between these two. the chemistry was perfect. I loved them as a couple. The second half was tough as Matt struggles with all his issues and Sidney really nails his emotions and is able to translate them for us to read (and feel) . Great book Sidney!!! 4.5 Stars from me. Huge! **arc from NetGalley and publisher in exchange for a fair review**

Wow! I really enjoyed this book! This was my first Sidney Halston book and it certainly won't be my last. I have read a lot of romance and many of the story lines seem to be similar but I can say that this one is very different from anything I have ever read. What a great story! I don't want to give anything away because it would spoil things for you but believe me when I say this book has everything you love in a romance plus a lot more!! The chemistry between Matt & June is off the charts! They go through so much more than your average couple goes through and you will find yourself rooting so hard for them to get their HEA!! I know I was!

This is the second book in the Panic series and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book when I finished Pull Me Close because I loved Matt. The book was really good, but in my opinion, not as good as the first. This book goes back in time before Nico and Kates relationship in Pull Me Close and the stories then run parallel. My heart broke for both April and Matt when the preverbal you know what hit the fan. Matt has a hard and fast rule that you never lie and he feels the ultimate betrayal when he finds out that June/April was actually an undercover agent that got his father put in prison for his drug trafficking crimes and racketeering. Matt and Nico were also arrested but April had left enough evidence behind that proved that Matt and Nico were innocent and the crimes solely belonged to their father. While Matt was hiring private detectives to try and find the MIA June/April, she was working another undercover job until the trial was complete. A year passes and when Matt finally found out about the betrayal, he went off the rails! He was broken, he was angry, he was bitter and he hated June/April and told her this to her face when she came to apologize for the way things went down. She had wanted to try and see if their relationship could be salvaged. As you can guess, they both fell deeply in love prior to the arrests and that wasn’t part of the plan for April. Matt was not forgiving and he wouldn’t hear her out. Can Matt ever forgive the betrayal and be able to move on with April? You are going to have to read the book and find out. There are a few twists that happen that I didn’t see coming. I loved Matt and April’s characters and the secondary characters were a great supporting cast. On the down side, after all the buildup, I was a little disappointed that the book ended a little too quickly for me, but all in all, it was a very good read. I can’t wait for the next book! If you love a second chance romance with a twist, then give this book a try.

Pull Me Close was one of my favorite reads of 2016 so I could barely contain my excitement for Matt's story. If you haven't read Pull Me Close, Make Me Stay can be read as a standalone but both are so amazing, you'll want to pick up both. Matt has been pulling double duty as a lawyer during the week and helping run Panic on the weekends with his twin brother, Nick, and his father. When June walks into the club and proceeds to pour her drink over some guy's head, he's captivated and determined to spend time with her. They have an amazing five months together and then the Moreno family is arrested and June disappears. When Matt sees June again and discovers that she is a cop, he feels played and is ready to never see her again. But the love between them was strong and the connection was real. Can they move past the past and rebuild? I didn't think I would love a character as much as I loved Nick but then I was introduced to Matt. He's romantic, passionate, patient, and hands down a great guy. I felt the entire spectrum of emotions during this story. I was pulling for April and Matt every second. I'll be looking forward to meeting more characters from Panic! *This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy*

When I met Matt in Pull Me Closer, I loved him and I couldn't wait to read his story. The story was totally worth the wait! I don't want to give any spoilers about the actual story, so I'm going to make this brief. The writing and story was perfect. I loved reconnecting with the characters that we met in Pull Me Closer, although you could read this as a stand alone book. Matt turns out to be the guy that I imagined him being and I fell head over heals for him as he works through so tough things. Great read!!!

Wow!!! I thought Book 1, Pull Me Close, was intense and emotional, but this one was even more so! Make Me Stay has it ALL….secrets, betrayals, love, sex, forgiveness, and second chances. This book is about Matt, Nick’s twin. A year ago he was madly in love with June, but she broke his heart when she left without a trace. The feelings never died for him, so when he recognizes her on the street, all those feelings, now combined with anger and hurt, are pushed to the forefront. June aka April had to leave Matt for his own protection, and like Matt, she never stopped loving him either. She tries to make amends and hopefully have another shot with him by being honest, but he wants no part of that. However, when she is hurt, and he may be her only way of healing and regaining her life. He decides to do whatever is possible to help her. Can he ever trust her again? Can they find their way back to one another? This book was soooo emotional! As always, Halston tackles important issues in her novels, and this one was no different. I don’t want to spoil anything but just know it’s a fascinating and different topic. I have never read a book that has discussed this health issue, and it was very informative. Halston always finds a way to connect me with her characters, and Matt and April were no different. I learned so much about them through the first portion of the book about how they met and how things ended. I loved how with each chapter they learned something new about one another. They are really getting to know and fall in love with each other all over again. The climax toward the end of the story is INTENSE! That is putting it mildly. It threw up a MAJOR roadblock in the way of their journey back to one another! My favorite thing about this book is there was indeed a HEA, but it wasn’t perfect, just like real life. Another great book by one of my favorite writers!!!!!

Make Me Stay Panic #2 Sidney Halston 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is Matt and April's story. Matt meets April while she is undercover. Although he doesn't know that she is an undercover cop. He falls for her but she is gathering evidence against his dad. After disappearing for a year, April returns to Miami and runs into Matt. Matt finally puts two and two together after seeing a news report. He is so angry with April. April gets attacked and now has amnesia. Matt takes her home to help her heal and recover her memory. Even though he still hates her for what she did. After spending more time with her, Matt realizes he is still in love with her. This was such a cute romance. I enjoyed reading this one. I will be recommending this to my reader friends. Can't wait for the next Panic story to come out. Thanks to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Told in both past and present tense, Make Me Stay is the second book in the Panic Series and follows the story of April and Matt. Everyone has secrets they’re not proud of and wish like hell they could share. Truer words couldn’t be spoken for April. Working undercover is one tough job. April loves putting the bad guys away, but the one thing she never planned on was Matt. Deceiving him and having to walk away was one of the hardest things April has ever had to do. But, now that the job is almost done, April is left hoping that she hasn’t totally blown things with Matt. When the truth comes out, will Matt understand? Will Matt be able to forgive?? There is only one woman who has ever gotten under Matt’s skin. Some might even say that Matt fell in love. However, Matt’s life is about to be turned upside down. You see, the night everything falls apart at his club, well, that is the same night that “June” disappears without a trace. Months and months pass with no word from June, but Matt doesn’t give up. He can’t. And when fate makes their paths cross one more time, Matt will soon learn that there is more to June than meets the eye. Will Matt be able to forgive and forget the past? They say the truth will set you free, but in some cases, the truth only does more damage…. I have to tell you, when I first stumbled upon this book, I just knew I had to read it. I fell in love with the beautiful colors on the cover and could not be more intrigued by the synopsis. And let me tell you, I am so thrilled that I decided to pick up this book. From the moment our main characters were introduced, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. Their story fascinated me and the chemistry from our two main characters had me dying to know what went wrong. Now, I will be first to admit that the first part of the book is paced a bit slower than I would like. There is a lot going on, and a lot of set up and explanation that needs to happen. However, that being said, the pace does pick up with you get to part two. From that point on, the story is fast paced and will leave you guessing. Overall, I though this book was a great read. I enjoyed the characters and their story. I was intrigued by the plot and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I thought this book had some great romance and suspense. I loved all the secrets and lies and twists and turns. I though this story was a fun read with just the right amount of drama and sexy romance. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to checking out more from her in the future.

Matt Moreno dreads each day as he works all week at his law firm then all weekend at his family's night club. Then he met and fell hard for June Simpson. For the 5 blissful months they were together Matt had never been happier. Then she just disappeared. Gone without a word. Now 2 years later his life is completely different. His father is in prison. He was fired from the firm. The night club is barely hanging in there. Then he's certain he see's her again but she disappears into the crowd. Again! Then out of nowhere she turns up in his club with apologies and explanations Matt doesn't want to hear. A fantastic story of forgiveness, love, and following your heart. While it's the second in a series it is easily read standalone. The characters are fantastic and the writing is great, making for a very entertaining book. I highly recommend this book.
