Mess Me Up by Lani Lynn Vale

When Rome Pierce moved to Bear Bottom, Texas, it was his intention to lay low. To not be seen. To find a way to heal his body and soul--as well as his son's.

Nobody would know by looking at him that he used to play professional football. Not with the Bear Bottom MC cut covering his back, and definitely not with his friendly smile completely obliterated.

No longer is there charm in each smooth word that comes out of his mouth. What's left is an angry, bitter, scared man that's terrified one day he's going to wake up and his entire world is going to be gone.

Nobody knows what drove him to leave the game he loved--nobody but her.

She's the one person that has helped him make it through the dark days and even darker nights. She's the bright and shining star in his pitch-black sky.

And he doesn't even know her name.

He should be afraid that she knows things that not anyone--not even his best friend--knows.

Yet, with each encounter, he gives what little bit of his soul remains, and before he knows it only two people on this earth--one dying, and one too afraid to live--make his life worth living.

Until one day he has to choose--the love of his life, or the life he brought into this world.

Two impossible situations. One decision that would change him forever.

Before you even turned the first first page of Rome's book, you knew there'd be a journey of loss and death for him because you knew about his son, Mathias, from Tyler and Reagan's book. What you didn't know is how Izzy's story would hit you. Izzy has experienced loss and pain that makes her the perfect fit for Rome. She's survived the worse, but can still find it in herself to love both Mathias and Rome. And even when the worst happens to Rome, she helps him find the reasons to live and love again. Lani Lynn Vale takes on some subjects in Mess You Up that gives as reader a pause. Expect to cry. Expect to feel the hurt like Rome does. But she also gives you the opportunity to see Rome's trip from the ultimate loss to his own happy ending. This is a must read for Lani Lynn Vale readers. Others should just read it because it's just that good of a book. Worth every penny.

If you have ever lost or almost lost a child this is a tough book to read. The truthful emotions will stick with you as will the magic healing of hearts that can only be accomplished with love. Worth the sniffles and Kleenex!

Mess Me up is the perfect title for this book! Boy did I bawl many times while reading this. Your heart will break over and over for Rome and his son, Matias and then add into the mix Izzy, the RP Fan story and you got yourself two impossible situations here. Rome a former professional football player has some much-needed decisions to make. He will shatter, he will lose his soul and whether he likes it or not he needs Izzy and his MC family to help guide him in recovery is how I will best state this to avoid any spoilers. This is book one in the Bear Bottom Guardians MC series and LLV started this out with a tearful bang and drops our hearts to the bottom alright, but in the end, she redeemed herself even though I was still sad to a point and you will see why. This story is full of suspense, heartbreak, love and redemption of friendship. There is not a story you don’t love by this author, but this may just be my favorite one for 2018. For those of us who read Too Bad So Sad in the Simple Man series we got to meet Rome, in Tyler’s book. We knew there was a story, but never did I expect this based upon the peek we saw. On a happier note. Can I just say this makes me want to go old school style and bring pen pals back? Love seeing intermingled characters and upcoming characters to see who is next in line. I hope the good brother to Izzy gets a story down the road.

This is a hard book to read, extremely hard. I cried and unlike her other series, this one got me in the heart. Damn girl, I have no idea where you get your inspiration from, but don't write anymore like this. Please....my heart couldn't take it. I love your work...thank you

A heartwrenchingly, soul splitting angst of the worst kind when a young child falls I'll and the torment and heart crushing it causes the parents and family. But in the end, two soul damaged hearts come together to create a stronger force to persevere and overcome and create a stronger bond.

There is a joke that authors survive on the tears of their readers. If this is true, then Lani Lynn Vale will have a LONG life! MESS ME UP totally lived up to its name. I balled my eyes out numerous times through this book. After I was finished I felt like I had run for miles and was emotionally rung out, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I cried, I snorted in laughter, and I smiled and growled through different parts of the story. I got introduced to new characters that I KNOW are going to be awesome in the story and got to reconnect with previous characters that I liked, so it was a nice mix. I knew going in that Rome’s story was bound to be either awesome or heart wrenchingly beautiful, I am happy to say that it was a both. Izzy and Rome are an awesome couple and the dialogue between the was at time hilarious and painful. Emotions literally leap off of the pages of this book. Overall, I LOVED it! So emotional and inspiring at the same time. If you are on the fence about a new series and not sure if you want to read because you think you know what is going to happen … jump off the dang fence! You NEED to read this book. It definitely has to be experienced.

LLV books are always fantastically written!!!! This one made me cry. Multiple times. Lani, girl, I beg you, please give us some fun, light hearted books soon. I feel like the books have been really heavy recently. I miss the colorful fun characters and quirky lightness.

As usual another awesome book. I always look forward to when this author has a book come out but then read it too fast and have to wait for the next one. If you haven't read her books you really need to, you'll be hooked..

WOW talk about a whirlwind of emotions. The author has done an outstanding job with “Mess Me Up”. My goodness what a ride. The storyline is written in such a wonderful way that the reader can’t help but feel that that they are right in there with the characters looking over their shoulders and feeling everything they are. And trust me when I say feel it, you will, from the tip of your toes, straight through your heart and to the top of your brain. This is a story about love, tragedy, loss and trying to find your way through it all. Rome is a former football star that has left the game and is struggling with life for very private reasons. He’s moves to the small town of Bear Bottom, Texas to be closer to his young son. Rome also becomes a member of the local MC and gets by with the help of a pen pal that he can tell his troubles too. When his ex-wife leaves town and literally dumps his small son on him, Rome gets help from Izzy, his ex’s housekeeper that adores the little boy. Izzy is a very private person with few friends. She comes from a rough childhood and is laying low from a dangerous ex. She has also had a crush on Rome since the first time she saw him on TV. Izzy jumps at the chance to help him with his young son and become his housekeeper. When tragedy strikes Rome goes into a nosedive, locking out everyone who cares for him. Can Izzy and his brothers of the Bear Bottom MC save him from self destruction? This is such an emotion book that will have you laughing one minute and grabbing for the tissues the next. But one thing is for sure, this is a MUST READ. I can’t recommend this book enough. If worth so much more than 5 stars. 2 Thumbs up for a phenomenal read and a terrific start to the Bear Bottom MC series. This reader can’t wait to see what happens next in the small biker town of Bear Bottom, Texas.

I absolutely loved this book. I have read every single book by Lani and this was by far the best one yet. The emotions I felt made it seem real like that not many authors can do. This book just proves each book gets better and this one hit it out the park! I cant wait till the next!

I started reading this at work at lunch time and I have to warn you I was choked up, nose plugged, eyes burning tears of emotion within a few chapters. I had to postpone reading more until I could get home. Very powerful story. I lost my sister at 39 to lung cancer that went undiagnosed she had two young twin girls barely 7. She took on the most aggressive treatments since she wanted to live for her family but in the end the disease won. I sat with her the final night at the hospice and gave her permission to give in. That she had given it her all. She could rest now. To her last breath she would have fought for us, her girls....reading the part in the story when Rome gives his son permission to let go of the fight. Tears. It's so hard to move on in life after losing someone and a child ... you never recover. Such a great story.

4 1/2 STARS! Absolutely heart wrecking! This book tore my heart out … and then slowly put it back together again. It’s my first read by this author, but it will definitely not be my last. It’s not your average MC (Motorcycle Club) romance, but it’s a powerfully written book that takes you on such a rollercoaster ride of emotions, that you don’t even care that it’s not giving us the biker lifestyle that we might have picked it up hoping for. The characters are addictive, and the various plots of the story held my attention with ease. Really great read! Former pro footballer Rome Pierce retired from his career without giving specifics why, moved to Bear Bottom, Texas and joined an MC … all within a short timeframe, and all while living the darkest period of his life. He has only his MC brothers to count on while he hopes the changes in his life help to heal him as well as his son. She’s been there when he needed an ear, offering words of wisdom and just plain kindness when he needed it more than anything. She’s got a past of her own that only he knows details of, but she knows he won’t tell anyone. After all, he doesn’t know who she is. He holds her secrets, but not her name. She has seen into his soul, but never into his eyes.
