Money Back Guarantee – the third in Hunter Shea’s fun trilogy ‘Mail Order Massacres’ – is a worthy successor to the previous two. The premise is similar in that a young boy in ‘80s America who loves comic books, wants to buy something that seems too good to be true. For just $5 of his mother’s hard earned cash, he can own his own nuclear sub. Well, not really. Of course they wouldn’t sell a kid a REAL nuclear submarine and when it turns up, it proves even more disappointing than that. After a near fatal accident, the cardboard sub is destroyed and the boy is distraught. He pesters his mother to get another one. She is equally determined to resist his pleas – and get her money back. After all, that’s what it said in the advertisement. Full money back guarantee if not completely satisfied. If only his mother could find where the company is based. And if only the threatening phone calls would stop. Perhaps it’s time she took the law into her own hands. This is horror with the fun bits left in. It’s an adventure, a mystery and a battle between good and evil. I’ve read all three of these novellas and can recommend them all.

This is the third installment of the Mail Order Massacres - and it's another great one. I'm only sad that this is the last! Rosemary buys her son a nuclear submarine from the back of a comic book and when he plays with it, both he and his friend nearly drowns. When she complains, they send a replacement. And another... And things keep getting worse. Lots of fun and the end is great.

Money Back Guarantee is a whole lot of fun and nicely rounds off author Hunter Shea's trio of novellas in his 'Mail Order Massacre' series; which I highly recommend. This is exactly how tongue-in-cheek, 80s-style horror should be done! When Rosemary orders a toy 'nuclear submarine' from an advert in the back of a comic book for son Dwight, it starts a downward spiral of strange events. Dwight almost drowns when he tests the cardboard sub in pal Jimmy's swimming pool. Enraged, Rosemary tries to complain and secure a refund but things start to go horribly wrong. That's all I'm going to say for fear of spoiling the great entertainment. This novella can easily be read in one sitting and forges ahead at a stonking pace. The intended reading sequence is - Just Add Water, Optical Delusion and finally Money Back Guarantee. One word of warning though - just don't take them too seriously!
