Seems to be a group of short stories about Walch. Not all that connected. A rather long winded dribble. Honestly I have read better.

Both the Lee Marvin and Tom Selleck Movies are excellent and the book and this audio CD exceed the movies. Shane is an excellent book but Monte Walsh surpasses the classic. Jack Schaefer truly captured the cowboy life and culture. If you don't like this book you don't like westerns. Cannot praise this book enough,

I have read this book several times. All though first chapter is a little slow, from two on, it is great. Even if you do not like westerns, I think you would like this book. Each chapter is a separate short story, but combined they make a great book.

I,m a 5th fith generation rancher and cowboy. I tell you this as a basis for my statment that Monte Walsh captures the essence of the American cowboy better than any other book I have ever read. I laughed out loud and was close to tears reading this book. It just reaches out and grabs you and you can't put it down.

I am and have been a horseman and cowboy for 35 years. I have old time friends that were there at the turn of the Century. All who read Monty Walsh say " That is how it was. " You can't get a better review than that!
