From USA Today bestselling author Kelly Rey comes a laugh-out-loud mystery that is so funny it should be a crime…
Jamie Winter loathes her job as a secretary in the sleaziest law firm in New Jersey. Trouble is, someone else loathes the whole firm—enough to kill one of the partners, the two-timing, eleven-fingered king of lowbrow television commercial spots, Dougie Digits. Now, Jamie is being strong-armed into investigating by Dougie’s frosty widow, Hilary. The suspect list is long, including the firm’s bookish paralegal, embezzling bookkeeper, ambitious associate, and resentful senior partners. Add to that list a mélange of oddball clients with grudges of their own, and Jamie has her work cut out for her. With assists from her studly landlord and husband-hungry sister, Jamie uncovers enough dirt on her coworkers to launch a tabloid in her hunt to find the killer...before he or she strikes again!

Fun read! I'd be a happy camper if my Nook was full of e-pubs as entertaining as Motion for Murder! I'll be looking out for more from Kelly Rey!

I couldn’t put down this debut mystery and can’t wait for the next in this new series! It was refreshing to read a book that had no sex, violence, or obscene language. This is the first book I’ve read that was set in a law office, and the setting was perfect for the variety of characters. You feel as if you know the main character, Jamie Winters, and can picture yourself in the law office! I’m looking forward to more great books from Kelly Rey!

How much stress can there be as a secretary in the law offices of Parker, Dennis and Heath? Well Missy Clark, Jaime Winter and Paige Ford can tell you. Some of their clients are less than favorable and each day a new surprise arises. One of the partners enjoys doing schleppy commercials to bring in those less than favorable clients. The other partners don’t care for this marketing technique, but they love the money. One day while dealing with Torts and other legal documentation, the staff had to deal with an unexpected death. Nothing at the law office would be same again. A very intriguing read!

Begins with development of the major characters and, basically, setting the stage for the murder. Lots of snarks and sparks. Then comes the sleuthing. And more craziness. This is a great new heroine and the writing is as entrancing as it is funny. Almost wish I was into spoilers, but since I'm not, you'll just have to take my word for it.

2.5 stars for effort. The author was trying too hard to be funny & the story felt flat.

A very good read. Jamie is a secretary in a sleazy law firm. When the most loathed lawyer in the firm, Dougie is murdered, Jamie is forced into investigating the murder by Dougie’s scary wife. He was lowdown and conniving and pretty much every body he met had motive to kill him. She has to look into her coworkers and friends to catch the killer before they kill again. The book was a little slow at first. It took longer than is typical in a murder mystery to get to the actual murder. I kept thinking the murder was coming but it took a while. The story was good though even before the murder. It was funny and I enjoyed it early on. Jamie was an interesting character. She was slightly obsessed with food. She's also a huge push over. She needed to get a back bone, but it was hilarious when she was pushed into things. And I love her silly family. I knew who the killer was pretty quickly, or I suspected that they were the killer or a future suspect that would be eliminated. I turned out to be right. I enjoyed this mystery and recommend to anyone who likes a silly cozy mystery.

I really enjoyed this book.  Kelly has created some great characters. I can't wait until the next book to see what happens.  How would Jamie like getting Wally as a brother-in-law!   Eek!    Highly recommend!

Fun, Cozy Murder Mystery!! I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by Kelly Rey and it most certainly will not be my last! This is the first book in what promises to be a fun and exciting mystery series. I loved Jamie Winters and the crazy cast of characters in her world especially her sexy landlord Curt and her so-desperate-for-marriage sister Sherri! This book keeps you guessing as you laugh out loud at some of the situations Jamie finds herself in while trying to deduce who murdered her boss. I was as surprised as Jamie was at who the killer turned out to be. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a cozy, fun mystery!

This book was such a fun read!  I read a lot of angst filled, almost stressful to read romance.  So when i want something light, i turn to mysteries.  And for those light reads, i look for two things specifically.  i dont want it to be so complicated that i have to go back and reread portions to understand why things happened, and i want to enjoy the characters.  If i laugh that's a plus.  Well, this book had all that! I can't wait to read more about Jamie, her sister, and her neighbor.  and i will never forget the grocery store scene!

Motion for Murder is a book that I had to read in one sitting!  Before I retired, I hated books I could not put down because going to work was so hard the next day.  Now I just sleep late.  I highly recommend this book, but do not start it unless you have several hours of free time.  Kelly Rey has a real gift with words.  My favorite books are mysteries with humor.  This is a perfect book for you if you enjoy humor with your mystery.

Jamie is a great character, but the supporting actors stole the story. Jamie's marriage-hungry sister, her crazy co-workers, and her sexy landlord  are definitely worth the read.

Enjoyable read! The book was a fun, quick read. Loved the different characters. I did solve the who done it quickly but it was fun to see how she got there. I am looking forward to the next book and to see if romance is in the air!

Loved Motion for Murder by Kelly Rey! Funny, exciting , fast paced read. I will be anxiously awaiting Rey's next book. Jamie Winters is a legal secretary who comes quickly embroiled in a murder mystery when a sleazy lawyer at her firm is murdered. Kelly Rey develops lovable characters from Jamie, to her husband seeking, baby obsessed sister to her hunky landlord. I can't wait to read what Kelly Rey has in store for the series!

Jamie should have known that the day was not going to get any better when the first client at the law firm of Parker, Dennis, and Heath was waving a gun and she seemed the only one really concerned about it.  Her fellow legal secretary Missy Clark was more than happy to let the disagreeable, ambulance-chasing partner Douglas J. Heath – better known as Dougie the Digits for his extra finger and extra grabby hands – walk into a hopefully lethal scenario.  Unfortunately, Dougie survives that encounter only to fall to one of his ubiquitous protein shakes that someone in House has sprinkled in a little extra.    While Jamie hasn’t exactly found her purpose in life and has mostly drifted into her living situation, she would prefer to survive working in the law firm even as she is talked into Dougie’s bulldozer of a widow into investigating which of his many mistresses may have finally stopped his lothario ways.  On top of toiling at a job that is sucking the life out of her, Jamie also has a grandbaby-happy mother and an equally wedding-and-baby obsessed sister who both combine to add to the chaos.    The fun of this debut mystery comes in how it subverts so many clichés and surprises readers with its twists and plays on characters.  While the culprit may ultimately not be too surprising to most readers, the humor and development of Jamie’s character keep the novel fresh and exciting.  The greatest satisfaction is derived from watching Jamie slowly grow into her self as she develops a backbone and cements a future for herself.  This is a very funny new mystery and a welcome entry into humorous mysteries with a side helping of romance.
