A former policeman now working in a high end department store as Security Chief. He is asked by store's owner to look into the threatening letters he's been receiving.. Many twists and turns in this well written book - breakup with girlfriend, poison and of course, murder. This is a good old fashioned whodunit and it kept me interested until finished.

Great, well written murder mystery. I loved it.

I enjoyed this fun, easy read. While it wasn't too challenging, it still offered up several possible scenarios for the bad guy. It had a mild noir feel to it too which I liked a lot.

Good plot, several possible killers with likely motives. Hard to put down once into it.

The book was good but to me it was not that intriguing and interesting. I knew who the murderer was before page 100.

I really liked this mystery - was definitely a page-turner & kept my interest. The characters were realistic & Quint was quite likeable. I will probably look into some of the authors other works.

In the tradition of a taciturn, heavy smoking gumshoe confronted by the stunning troubled dame, Quintus McCauley is compelled to prove whether Diana Hauser killed her rich husband, Preston or is being framed. In a great departure the female characters are strong and intelligent with much to add to the story. While not an Agatha Christie this is still a satisfying whodunit with a twist. I look forward to reading more about Quint and Elaine and their evolving partnership. On side note I appreciated the lack of graphic sex, violence, and crude language. Love being able to share my favorite reads with my teens!

Quint McCauley, head of security at a major Chicago store, has to deal with the wife of the owner, who delights in shop-lifting in her own store. When called into Preston Hauser's office, he thinks it's because of Preston's wife, Diana. However, Preston has been receiving threatening notes, and he wants Quint to investigate, on the QT. Shortly thereafter, Preston drops dead, in Quint's presence, from a poisoned vitamin pill. Quint decided to continue the hunt for the note-sender, and hopefully, the killer. Diana, of course, is prime suspect because she's the pretty young wife, of a very rich, older man. Quint, finds that she's not the only one who would benefit from Preston's death, and it's a convoluted investigation that ensues before the real culprit is found. I love a mystery, and this is a good one.

Loved this book from the first page, which was so unexpected that i had to read it twice. Very short (only 200 pages) but still the author was able to produce an entertaining and well-developed story. Lots of twists and turns and so many unscrupulous characters that you dont know who is guilty of what until the end. Definitely worth the time!

I couldnt get into it. Got to page 53 and gave up. Too slow and too many mundane details to spark any interest with me. Mad Cricket
