It's springtime on Cranberry Island—and love is in the air. It seems like every woman has the hots for buff trainer Dirk De Leon. He and his equally-gorgeous business partner, Vanessa Black, are leading a weight-loss retreat at the Gray Whale Inn—forcing innkeeper Natalie Barnes to lighten up her butter-laden breakfast menu.

The mood on the island darkens when two grisly discoveries are made. The first is a skeleton walled up at the island's lighthouse. The second is a corpse of the fresh variety—the handsome Dirk! Could the spirit that once embodied the skeletal remains—perhaps the lighthouse keeper who disappeared a century ago—be responsible for Dirk's death?

The police pin the blame on Natalie's boyfriend who—to her dismay—had a long-ago fling with Vanessa. To find the true killer and ease her own aching heart, Natalie must untangle the knot of jealous girlfriends and spurned admirers that once surrounded the hunky trainer.

"MacInerney adds a dash of the supernatural, throws in some touristy tidbits and finishes with some tasty diet-right recipes."—Publishers Weekly

"All thumbs up for Murder Most Maine , another in the engaging series of Cranberry Island mysteries. Karen MacInerney writes with verve and vitality, and her Natalie Barnes is a Maine original. I'm ready to book a room at the Gray Whale Inn!"—Susan Wittig Albert, bestselling author of Nightshade and other China Bayles Herbal Mysteries

In this cozy mystery the main character is a real woman with body image issues in her forties. While running the struggling Gray Whale Inn, she hosts a diet retreat filled with mostly women looking to lose some pounds over the course of a week. While serving up the low-calorie dishes to the group and trying to keep her inn afloat, she also needs to solve the murder of one of the group's instructors before her boyfriend is arrested for the crime. As the book develops, the reader discovers the histories of the characters, some more painful than others. The story, the character development, and the sub-plots keep the reader interested. The solution is seen before the end, but the book is still an enjoyable read. The story has a mix of mystery, romance, history and recipes. Would be a great summer read!

This series continues to intertain and grow in maturity. The plot in this one is more complex and keeps you guessing. The characters are wonderful and draw you into the story. Again I find myself anxiously the next book.

Natalie is beginning to regret hosting a weight loss retreat at her bed and breakfast in Maine when she sees how her boyfriend reacts to being reunited with the female leader. However, when the male leader is murdered, Natalie has even bigger things to worry about, like keeping her boyfriend out of jail. A strong plot and sub-plot kept me turning pages even if the suspect characters could have been stronger.

Another winner from Karen MacInerney. I have fallen in love with the inn-keeper Natalie and the other inhabitants of Cranberry Island. The first murder during the weight loss retreat seems to be connected to a lover’s triangle (involving none other than John-the handsome neighbor and Natalie's love interest). The second murder disproved the previously thought motive and kept me guessing until the last page. Natalie's challenges both personally and professionally are overcome and the inn’s reputation recovers and thrives. John's "confession" near the end was heartfelt and convincing. The second plot involving the lighthouse renovations give the reader an interesting history lesson. I can't wait to read the next book.

Karen MacInerney is fantastic. She mixes the past and present and draws the reader in from the beginning. This is the 3rd in this series and was just as good as the first two. Would love to see each book expanded on in the series. ..... so much story to tell. Poor Natalie, the owner of the Bed and Breakfast never has a dull moment throughout each day. She is always up and on the move. She is so full of energy and zest....never a negative from her. On my way now to read book #4. :-) Thank you!
