Rose Doubt grew up in difficult circumstances and suffers from a severe lack of self-confidence. To hide her problems from her surroundings, she takes on different roles in an attempt to fit in and conform to others - but at an increasingly heavy cost. Her method seems to work well, however, to the extent that she finds a partner, but he turns out to have been deceiving and taking advantage of her. Rose's world is shattered when she realises this and tries to end her life with her own hands...
