As a veteran, many-time reader of the "Canon" (including Mr. Klinger's annotated version) and hundreds of pastiches, this one has affected me as only very few have done: subsequent writings, and readings by me, will be influenced (tainted?) by this secret knowlege I now possess of Brother Mycroft's young adulthood! Thank you for a context in which I shall inevitably now always place the "smarter" Holmes!

Wonderful story- wonderfully written, thoroughly enjoyed- please write more of these.

Not what I imagine Mycroft to be in the slightest. And some of the action required some suspension of disbelief. But no worse than lots of pastiches and better than some. But glad he didn't try to do Sherlock!

I enjoyed this original tale from start to finish. It has superb action, dialogue, and an excellent cast.

I thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end. A wonderful addition to the post canon Holmes novels. As a huge Sherlock Holmes fan since childhood I was very pleased with this portrait of Holmes' elder brother. It was a great book that left me with one question, will there be more Mycroft stories coming in the future? If so, they will be instant buys for me. ?

I enjoyed it but it wasn't great. At first the sentence structure seemed really short and simple but I got used to that. It isn't Conan Doyle. It is quite dark with dead children and slavery and a bit moralistic bordering on preachy. Again, I enjoyed it but after reading the original Conan Doyle recently and enjoying recent interviews with Kareem I as a bit disappointed.

A prequel of sorts the stands on it's own. An enjoyable read with strong, but not preachy, messages on culture and race.

I found this all-new take on Sherlock's older, smarter brother to be refreshing, intelligent and thought-provoking. An excellent read, and give it 5 stars without a doubt. SK

Mycroft Holmes is a wonderful mix of mystery and action that captures the reader from first to last. Each chapter ends with an intrigue that beckons you on to the next. I had intended to read a couple of chapters before bed but stayed up half the night jumping from one adventure to another. As a Sherlock fan it is fascinating to see the early development of Mycroft, Sherlock’s smarter, older brother. The story will also appeal to historical fiction fans as the backdrop to the action is a vividly painted Victorian England and Trinidad in the early nineteenth century. The book is a thoroughly enjoyable read. I do hope there is a sequel in the works! I want more.
