One of them has it all. One of them wants it all. But they can't both win.

Stella and Violet are best friends, and from the moment they met in college, they knew their roles. Beautiful, privileged, and reckless Stella lives in the spotlight. Hardworking, laser-focused Violet stays behind the scenes, always ready to clean up the mess that Stella inevitably leaves in her wake.
After graduation, Violet moves to New York and lands a job in cable news, where she works her way up from intern to assistant to producer, and to a life where she's finally free from Stella's shadow. In this fast-paced world, Violet thrives, and her ambitions grow -- but everything is jeopardized when Stella, envious of Violet's new life, uses her connections, beauty, and charisma to get hired at the same network. Stella soon moves in front of the camera, becoming the public face of the stories that Violet has worked tirelessly to produce -- and taking all the credit.

Stella might be the one with the rich family and the right friends, but Violet isn't giving up so easily. As she and Stella strive for success, each reveals just how far she'll go to get what she wants -- even if it means destroying the other person along the way.

"Listening to him complain about Stella was as satisfying as watching a rant-filled hour of cable news that confirmed all of your biases." Genre: Thriller Number of Pages: 342 Perspective: First Person Location: New York Stella is beautiful and rich. Violet is smart, but from a rough and poor family. Somehow they become friends, each with their role in the friendship: Violet riding on the coattails of Stella. But when Violet starts to get hard-earned success, jealousy flips the other way. TL;DR: Don’t expect this to be a thrilling thriller. Rating: 3/5 Full Review: https://judgingmorethanjustthecover.com/2019/09/review-necessary-people-anna-pitoniak.html

Necessary People by Anna Pitoniak was, in a word, unputdownable. It was dark and twisty with morally gray characters making morally gray decisions. I loved it! Violet and Stella are best friends from college. Stella is rich and beautiful, and Violet is hardworking and lives in Stella’s shadow. After landing her dream job, Violet’s ambition is awakened and she works hard to maintain her momentum up the ladder at work. Stella then jeopardizes Violet’s spot at work and Violet is determined to not let her win this time. This dark and twisty tale of friendship, ambition, betrayal, and money was unputdownable. When I first started reading it I thought, here we go, just another book of friendship and betrayal; but boy was I wrong. This was such a page-turner. It was written with suspense in mind. I just wanted to see what was going to happened next and the ending was unpredictable. I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I loved this book! It’s about two young women, Stella and Violet, while striving for success, they each reveal just how far they'll go to get what they want. The personalities were authentic and interesting and it kept me mesmerized until the end! It had a surprising conclusion that I didn't expect. This was a page turner!!! I will be recommmeding this one to all my friends! I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
