This was such a refreshing turn of the tables for me. Instead of a hero leaving the woman he loved to marry another for whatever reason, the heroine played the fool and abandoned the one man who truly loved her. Funny how it wasn’t Jemma’s decision to go to Dane, her first love. It was her mother’s, and it was an attempt to save her brother’s life after he stupidly challenged Dane while drinking. Dane’s anger at seeing her again after she married another is palpable, even for a story. It radiated from the pages and, to a degree, I didn’t blame him for being angry. At first, I wanted him to throw her out and have at it with her brother. But a conversation they shared in his bedchamber later on changed my mind, and then all I wanted was for them to move forward. Nightingale is a quick story about love torn apart, the consequences that echo throughout the years, apologies, forgiveness, and rediscovering a love that was never meant to fade away. ***Received from Edelweiss for an honest review***
