"Nine Days to Atlanta" is a story of adventure and discovery. It was a crazy idea that the protagonist had conceived at the end of his seventh grade of school when faced with the possibility of being held back due to poor grades. His plan was to run away from home and ride his bicycle to Atalanta, Georgia. Fortunately, he didn't have to execute the plan. However, over the following four years, he often wondered if he could have made it.
Now it's the summer of 1967 and the protagonist is seventeen years old. He decides to test himself by setting out on the 860-mile trek, alone, on a bicycle. Carrying only a hammock, thin blanket, raincoat, canteen, knife, map, forty dollars, and a few changes of clothes, his journey takes him across the southern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia. Each day is filled with different situations, places, weather, people, and pain he had never contemplated. In the end, it proves to be a lesson in what can be accomplished if one doesn't give up.
