The theme of the book is "I'm mad! I want to ____. It's not okay to ____, but I can _____." You lift the flap to see what you can do. This is an incredibly useful concept; it gets across the idea that you can be mad and want to do something, but do something else instead. Some of the substitutions strike me as odd (I want to stick out my tongue at my mother, but I can lick a popsicle... yeah, 'cause I'm going to be handing out the popsicles while we're arguing?) but most of them are reasonable alternatives.

This book is cute , my two year old loves it . The only thing is I wish the pages didn't open in a flip out . He ripped them out , that was not the case with regular books we have . He rips out and pop ups or flip out .

This book tackles a variety of behavioral issues such as hitting, disrespect, screaming, etc. Simple to understand and good alternative suggestions for good behavior.

I disagree heartily with the 1 star review. My 2.5 year old loves this book, and its companion books 'Excuse Me' and 'I Can Share'. This is a great series for an older child trying to adjust to a new baby in the house. I am buying it now as a gift for a friend.

I was looking for a book to help my toddler understand that hitting wasn't acceptable behaviour. I bought this book because of it's name. Well it's NO HITTING but there is only one instance where the child (in the book) is shown that hitting isn't the right thing to do. If you are looking for a book to help guide your child toward more positive behaviour when it comes to hitting...I would not recommend this book.
