"This beautifully written memoir had me laughing and crying . . . in the same sentence. I loved it, but I feel it's not only for those considering or immersed in adoption or foster parenting. It's also for Everymom--that mother who feels she is or was less-than, who regrets things said or unsaid, who wishes she could insta-replay moments or months of her mothering. As a mom of four children who are married to beautiful folks of four different races, I highly recommend it."

When Natalie and her husband got married, like many of us, they had a plan. However, after a few years, God showed them a new plan that was completely different than theirs. Natalie Gwyn shares how her and her husband doubled the size of their family through God's plan of adoption in Okayest Mom. Natalie Gwyn shares her family's story in Okayest Mom starting with when they received God's idea of adding to their family through adoption between her and her husband, and then sharing the idea with her two biological children, and finally sharing how they did indeed adopt four children from Ethiopia and how the early years of that adoption went for them. While this adventure is mostly shared through her eyes, at times she also shares details about this adventure from everyone's point of view throughout the book. She shares the details, the ups and the downs throughout the process. If a reader is looking to adopt, this would be a great book for them to read. Okayest Mom has a certain appeal for all moms, but I think it would be most interesting to someone looking to adopt with all of the great information she shares along with her story. She also shares ways to support ministries that help orphans and others in need overseas in chapter 15. Through Okayest Mom, Gwyn is down-to-earth and easy to relate to as a mom, whether you have an interest in adopting or have already adopted children. She shares her story quite candidly and is "real" about some of the difficulties they encountered along the way. I didn't really find the book "laugh-out-loud funny" as the back cover suggested, but I did see where Gwyn used humor to help her and her family through some of the tough spots. I would definitely recommend Okayest Mom to someone looking to go through the adoption process. I received Okayest Mom by Natalie Gwyn from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. #partner
