عمر طوسون هو أحد أهم رواد الإصلاح والنهضة في مصر أوائل القرن العشرين، وله إسهامات بارزة في المجالات العلمية والعملية. اشتهر بتأريخ الأحداث التاريخية المصرية وتقديم دراسات أثرية رائدة، كما أسهم في اكتشاف العديد من الآثار مثل رأس تمثال الإسكندر الأكبر. ولد في الإسكندرية عام 1872م ونشأ يتيم الأب، حيث تولت جدته تربيته قبل أن يكمل تعليمه في سويسرا ويزور العديد من البلدان الأوروبية. عُرف بأعماله الخيرية الواسعة التي شملت جمعيات إسلامية وقبطية، ودعمه للمقاومة الليبية العثمانية ضد الغزو الإيطالي، بالإضافة إلى نشاطاته الاقتصادية كرئيس للجمعية الزراعية الملكية. توفي عام 1944م عن عمر يناهز الثانية والسبعين.
