One Hell Of A Ride by Ju Ephraime

When Joe Cariello sees the young lad, Cas, standing in the doorway of his old friend's ranch, he has no idea his friend has just been murdered and that he'll be viewed as the most likely suspect. He's a drifter, not a killer. Now he's determined to find out what happened to his old friend, and if it means working alongside Cas, he has no problem doing so. That is, until he delves deeper and realizes, everything is not as it seems.

At first, Cassie Sorrento is suspicious of the drifter, but something about him convinces her to accept the help he offers in solving her grandpa's death. She's so impressed with his, take charge attitude, she hires him. But she soon realizes she's in uncharted waters with Joe, and if she's not careful, her carefully guarded secret might be revealed.

Now Cas must decide, should she reveal her secret to Joe and take her chances or should she continue her charade and let him drift on out of her life, when the job was done? This presented a challenge to Cassie, and having never been one to back down from a challenge, she does not intend to now; although she's well aware that in this instance, she might bite off more than she can chew. But Cassie realizes she'd give up everything if it means having Joe in her life, permanently. She wants to go riding with him, all things considered, riding with Joe will be, one hell of a ride!

I absolutely love this book. The story of Cassie “Cas” and Joe is captivating and the way the author allows the story to unfold makes it all the more so. Set in 1875 Utah, at a time when women weren’t valued much but for one thing, the author shows there are some women who can lasso and herd cattle just as good as the cowhands, if that’s what it took. In this story not only did Cassie have to blend in, she had the death of her grandfather to solve. And when handsome, bad as hell, Joe Cariello came along, Cassie had to decide, accept the help he offers or send him packing. Boy was I pleased she didn’t send him away because these two characters build up the tension and excitement until I wanted to scream. I love everything about this story, even the period dialogue that the author keep between the cowhands, was on point. I’ve read a lot of westerns, this here is my first western romance and hopefully it won’t be my last. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

One Hell Of A Ride by Ju Emphraime is a western historical romance. This is my first book by this author but I really enjoyed this story. I don't generally read a lot of westerns but was glad I got to read this one. I think the biggest surprise for me was Cass and her pretending to be a boy. This is a fast paced and well written novel. I really liked the characters. I felt like there was enough romance and action to keep it interesting. My favorite part was the ending because I am a sucker for a good ending. I love that the author incorporated a no nonsense woman who would go so far as to dress like a man to work and run a ranch. That's awesome! Anyway I super enjoyed it. I would rate 4 stars!

One Hell Of A Ride by Ju Ephraime 4 Stars This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was full of mystery, danger, suspense, and romance. The story moved kinda quick and seemed to repeat some phrases sometimes but this in no way took away from the quality of the story. I will read more by this author as I sincerely loved the story and the characters. Cassie “Cas” grew up loving spending time with her grandpa on his Lucky Strike Ranch. She was devastated to return from town after spending time with her ma and steppa to find that her grandpa had died. The Marshall claims it was by natural causes but Cassie knows her grandpa had never been sick a day in his life so her suspicions started the very minute she found him. Joe shows up to his friend Old Sam’s ranch, finding out that he had passed away. Realizing the young lad he encountered was his old friends grandson he offered to help in any way he could. He takes the offer to become foreman and help Cas bring the ranch back and clean up the problems that had surfaced with some of the hands, and also to help Cas find out just exactly what happened to her grandpa. As the two work closely together and Cas learns to trust Joe she is in danger of allowing her secret to be revealed. Joe questions his feelings for Cas and has to make a decision whether to just move on when his help is no longer required. Cassie has feelings she has never felt before and has decided that although it is a risk, she would do just about anything to keep Joe in her life. Can these two team up and clean up the problems on the ranch, and will they be able to find out what happened to Old Sam and keep themselves alive at the same time?

One Hell of a Ride by Ju Ephraime is a historical romance story that has a twist of suspense and mystery to it. This is my first book by this author and I will say it has been awhile since I have read a historical romance. I enjoyed the author's attention to detail and her knowledge of the pioneer days. Her characters were true to life and connectable. This story is about murder and things not being what they seem to be. There are a few twists and turns in this story that will leave you on the edge of your seat but yet turning page after page. Find out what happens when a granddaughter goes in search of a killer and her secret may just be found out. Joe Cariello is a drifter which is how he ends up at an old friend's ranch. Unbeknownst to him, his friend has died and looks like he has been murdered. What he didn't expect was to find Cas at the door. He had no idea that she suspects him as the murderer. He is now determined to find out what happened to his friend even if it means working along side of Cas. Until he realizes that things are not as they seem. Who can be trusted? Cas is a character that is a little different then the normal ones I am use to reading about. She dresses and acts like a male. She is determined to keep her secret and find her grandfather's killer. As Cas and Joe struggle with emotions that neither one expected or wanted, what will they do? This story as basically one goal, to find the killer but there is a ton of things going on. The secondary characters add so much to this story. You will either love them or hate them. You will love Joe and Cas as they are so strong. Joe is a take control type of man who is gorgeous. Cas is determined and just wants to be herself. I love how Cas's character dresses and acts like a male and no one notices it. I asked myself a few times how they could not but it was different. She is compassionate which is a little surprising to me being that she is so tough. She has not had the best of things growing up and has suffered much loss but she is determined to be who she wants. Will he convince her to let him help find the murderer? Their attraction will keep you guessing on their feelings. Find out what happens with Joe finds out Cas's secret. This is my first story by Ju Ephraime and I can't wait to read another one. Ju writes about highly steamy alpha males and her stories always have a happily ever after. She donates her services to a not for profit organization which she helped organize. This is a fast paced story that will keep you turning pages until the last one. This story will keep you engaged until the last word. I lost track of time while reading this book and I think you will too. I had a hard time putting it down, I needed to see what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to read an enjoyable western romance.

I enjoy watching movies and or shows set in the old West. Thus, it was a pleasant surprise when I received the initial notification that one of my favorite romance authors would be penning a romance novel set in the old West—One Hell of A Ride. As an aficionada of creative work set in that era, I was skeptical as to whether the author could deliver an authentic western romance novel. My doubts were quickly allayed by the first chapter in. The author certainly delivered. She did a masterful job in capturing the old West’s rugged terrain, dialect, and various idiosyncrasies. Indeed, one of my favorite passages in the book is in chapter four, where one of the main characters, Cassie, dismounts her horse, and facing the horizon, describes the surrounding terrain in careful detail. So, I have gotten ahead of myself. The novel, which as I mentioned above, is set in the old West, surrounds Cassie, a strong-headed and thick-skinned young lady, who after being away for six months, returns to her beloved grandpa and his ranch, The Lucky Strike, only to find him dead. Cassie, enlists the help of a mysterious, dark-haired stranger, who conveniently shows up at her grandpa’s ranch, the very day she finds him dead. The author does a wonderful of job of building these two characters and expertly takes her time in developing their relationship. Anyone who is a fan of this author's work knows that her novels tend to portray strong females; this novel is no different. However, I appreciated how the author softened the female character—Cassie--who grew up working alongside men on a ranch, by highlighting Cassie’s relationship with her grandpa. And of course, there’s Joe! I think the author did an excellent job in portraying the quintessential man of the old West—a man’s man! I also think she did a formidable job in exploring the beauty and challenges of that era. All in all, I thought One Hell of a Ride was a terrific effort!

Love and death in Utah circa 1875 A 1875 ranch in Utah is the setting for this high-heat historical romance, "One Hell of a Ride" by Ju Ephraime. As always Ephraime delivers titillating characters in a milieu perfect for their romance. Joe Cariello kocks on Cassie Sorrento's 's door, claiming to have known her her grandfather. He's young, virile, and everything about him screams drifter. When Joe meets Cassie, he doesn't know that her grandfather has been murdered, but one look at her tells him that his roaming days are over if he can romance her into his arms. As this historical romp takes shape, he convinces her to let him help her solve the mystery of her grandfather's death, and their partnership unearths many surprises that will keep you guessing while their attraction keeps you turning pages. Well developed, and very good fun.

This Western Romance is like no other Western I’ve read before. The story is so well-written that I immediately formed a connection with Cas, the heroine in the story. I love her reaction when she finds herself fall for Joe, the hero in the story. I couldn’t decide which of the two I like better. I was torn. Cas was great, but Joe was great too. In the end, I was wishing to read more about them together as a couple. I'm in love with both characters that’s how good a job the author did. Highly recommend!

Reviewed by Sefina Hawke for Readers' Favorite One Hell Of A Ride by Ju Ephraime is a western historical romance novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of mature young adults and adults who enjoy western romance and who do not mind explicit language and sexual situations. Cassie Sorrento’s life is turned upside down by a ruggedly handsome drifter by the name of Joe Cariello, who claims that he used to know her grandfather. Cassie Sorrento is skeptical of the drifter’s claim because of the age difference between her grandfather and Joe. When Joe Cariello saw Cassie standing at his old friend’s house and introduced himself, he had no idea that he would become the most likely suspect for a murder, nor that he would meet the one person who just might be able to cause him to put down roots. One Hell Of A Ride by Ju Ephraime has a beautifully shadowed cover that hinted at a western mystery with some hot romance mixed in. I loved the realistic feel of the western setting in this book and Ju Ephraime clearly put a lot of effort into giving it an authentic western feel. The characters were all well developed with their own personalities, wants, and dislikes that made them feel like real people that could almost walk off the pages of the book. Joe Cariello became my favorite character because of how much he came to care for Cassie; I loved the way he wanted to work with Cassie to find out the truth. The interaction between the two of them clearly showed the building attraction and the hope Joe began to have of staying with Cassie. I have to say that I would love to see more of Joe and Cassie in the future!

This author is without a doubt sensational. I love reading Cassie “Cas” and Joe’s story. The emotion is raw like one would expect in a Western romance. The characters are true to life. The relationship between Cas and Joe started out innocently enough and the author build up the budding relation one increment at a time, all along giving the reader on glimpses into the life on the range in the Wild West. By the time the romance exploded, I was well and truly ready. Phew, what a ride indeed. Highly recommend!
