One Light Still Shines: My Life Beyond the Shadow of the Amish Schoolhouse Shooting by Marie Monville

“My story is not about my past, but about your future,” says Marie Roberts Monville.

In the startling tragedy of the Amish schoolhouse shooting at Nickel Mines, one story has never been told; Marie Roberts Monville, the wife of the man who created such horror, tells her story for the very first time. It is a story of sorrow and destruction, but also one of majestic deliverance, unending compassion, breathtaking forgiveness, and grace-filled redemption.

Within a solitary moment, Marie Monville realized that life, as she knew it, was over. What she never anticipated was a tangible encounter with God reaching into her circumstances, through them rewriting all she believed about herself, her faith, and the God she thought she knew. One Light Still Shines reveals three love stories: the innocent love of a devoted wife for a husband in pain, the incomprehensible love of God in the aftermath of massacre and destruction, and the redemptive love of Christ, waiting to unfold in the life of every person who reads this book.

Marie's journey since that darkest of days has been invaded with light which shines through these pages into the darkest questions we all face--questions about our past, our value, our identity, and own powerlessness in this fallen world. Come face to face with the Power behind every answer—a love that begs to be received.

About the Author

Marie Monville, a life-time resident of the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area, often sat alongside her father in his milk truck as he served his Amish and non-Amish neighbors. She married her high school sweetheart, then gave birth to three children. The first 28 years of her life were quiet, predictable, and full of regular day to day country living. That all changed the day her husband barricaded the Amish schoolhouse at Nickel Mines, just one mile down the road, and murdered one Amish schoolgirl after another, before committing suicide--a horrific scene that stunned the entire world. That day was October 2, 2006. And though she knew that day that the life she'd known had just been shattered, that very same day God infused Marie with an unearthly assurance that he was with her, present and trustworthy, and that he would not fail her. Today, Marie is remarried to Dan Monville, and their blended family is a testament to the healing kindness of God. Today, Marie speaks nationwide as she and Dan continue to raise their five children in the Lancaster, PA area.

Favorite book I have ever read. It focuses on how to look for the light, even in the darkest times. There is always one light shining. I love that this book does not focus on the darkness, but teaches how to, in every situation in life, look for the good in others around us, and the goodness in God in the toughest times. What a sweet community of Amish that surrounded this widow in a time they could have held a grudge ...instead they chose forgiveness. A great example for all of us. I have read it multiple times and underlined and starred and marked in it. Such wise words to live by. THANK YOU MARIE for being transparent.

You will not read about all the sordid details of the horrific tragedy affecting a peace-loving community.  You will read about God's love, love for one another, courage, faith, grace, forgiveness, redemption and you just may be inspired! I am proud to live in Lancaster County, PA.

Save your money! I read this entire book because I was waiting for some insight as to what drove her husband to commit such a horrific and senseless act and destroyed so many lives. In the end I was somewhat disappointed and shocked at how quickly she moved on. Not a good all.

I expected this book to be about her husband and what demons drove him. It was a long winded, bible verse filled story about her. I am happy that she was able to move forward with her children but this is not the story I was interested in. Very little about her husband.
