Overview

On November 5, 1986, 20-year-old Scott Macklem was shot in the parking lot of St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, Michigan, where he was a student.

Despite having over a dozen witnesses stating he was almost 500 miles away and no evidence connecting him to the crime, Fred Freeman (now Temujin Kensu) was arrested and sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.

Joy Marie Mann is a long-time organizer, activist, and content creator. She has organized and co-organized dozens of actions for various causes, including healthcare, anti-imperialism, and environmental disasters, among others.

Joy has interviewed hundreds of people who have been affected by things such as poverty, political corruption, disability, homelessness, racism, and classism.

In 2020, Joy unexpectedly lost most of her eyesight; however, regardless of the trauma and continuous struggles, she refuses to stop doing the things that fulfill her.

Joy resides in Northeast Pennsylvania.
